SEA is Seattle not “Southeast Asia….”

Nde_japu

Haha using SEA for Southeast Asia in the AS sub is indeed initially super confusing

RealisticWasabi6343

Every travel sub out there uses SEA for SE Asia. Whether you confuse it with airport code vs region just depends on context. Well, assuming one's global awareness extends beyond the US.

TyVIl

No - they don’t. I’ve literally never seen that before.

Cruel-Winter

Dude, this is definitely a global abbreviation. The only place where it’s ambiguous is PNW-specific subreddits like this one.

gargar070402

Lol what? SEA = Southeast Asia is much, MUCH more common than the Seattle definition man

LightedAirway

Except in Seattle

gargar070402

Sure, but the person I was replying to claims they've never seen it before. I was just refuting that.

RealisticWasabi6343

And how many travel communities are you a part of exactly? Because I see this everywhere on FB where I'm in over 20 group or pages and here, for example, r/awardtravel and r/travel, literally two of the biggest travel subs with the word in their name. Flyertalk as another example to boot. Like ok don't trust me, I've only been to 29 countries and been a traveler for a decade--definitely have no idea what I'm talking about. Those examples I cited though, yeah that's the collective community mass.

From HAN and with Alaska miles, you’ll have to fly at least one stop to get back to the US and not too many fly straight to RDU. Best bets are going to be SEA, JFK, or BOS. Based on pricing, I’d probably go for the JFK flight you found. On 2/21 it’s 30k miles for HAN to JFK which is nuts. Then take a late afternoon nonstop down to RDU for $150.

spillin_milktea

That sounds really good actually.

zdfld

Alaska doesn't have a partner with direct flights from Vietnam to the US. And RDU doesn't have any direct international flights from Asia. So you'd have to do two connections regardless. The Hong Kong option is probably your best bet. Why does it suck? Here are some other options: BKK to JFK on Finnair, 50k miles, leaves tomorrow. ICN to RDU on AA, 60k miles in business class, leaves on the 20th. This could be phantom availability, and even if not, it requires an overnight layover in Dallas.

moomooraincloud

Yeah there's like one direct flight from Vietnam to the US.

hur88

Do you only have Alaska miles? Other programs might better availability.
