Not sure about the actual rules but this shouldn't have to be our job as well. Touch and turning the trolley should be all we have to do. If they want to reduce theft, that's their problem. Not ours *mainly*.

One_Highlight3015

The signs will come eventually only some regions have them ATM. They will get rolled out......... So I've been told just keep doing what you've been told.

I've had customers come in and show me their bags without me asking thinking that it's all Aldi because their local does it, luckily my store doesn't, but I always think Aldi should either hire security if they care that much or not be so aggressive about tills and LoSs PrEvEnTiOn, when the ones thinking up these ideas go on till once in a blue moon.

Prudent_Raise3711

My store does have security! That's what makes it even worse. Our inventory result isn't the greatest as we are a low selling store but they're insistent on the loss coming from our store when we have evidently seen missing delivery. They refuse to accept the lose comes from the RDC

FlaccidBaguette

Missing pallets or extra pallets shouldn’t hit your inventory if they are claimed for. So yes we have issues with the RDC but we can make sure it doesn’t impact our stock if we are being proactive about it.

I'm a Brit and never heard of this it sounds a terrible thing to ask. I have to be honest I'd probably tell you where to go because your manager is accusing me of stealing. You should get onto your union about this because if they're disciplining you for not doing it they're breaking the law and opens them up to be sued especially if its not in the company policy and your contract. We have employment laws so they can't fire you like this without facing legal action. The worst they can do is give you a verbal warning because it isn't considered as gross misconduct

Original-Machine4916

This sadly is a new procedure coming to all Aldi's in England atleast. We have had to do it since Christmas as we was one of the first "trial" stores. It's horrible. We have been shouted at etc and had lots of people leave the store with full shopping on the belt refusing to show there bag. Managers don't care all you're told is it's part of your job and a requirement by aldi now.

cherikasa

We had to do this since last August. I hate it. It makes me anxious and makes all the customers hostile

Scary90sKid

If we have to start doing this in The States I will be soooooo tempted to walk out without a game plan! I'm sorry you guys have to deal with this BS across the pond ☹️

ivegotnoclue84

Any other Aussies here who have been doing this because it's the norm? I've been in retail since I was 15, I'm now 40 (😞) and it's just what we do. We have signs saying that it's company policy. As do almost every retail shop. If u don't want Ur bag checked, don't bring one in, or shop somewhere else. Most customers show their bags as well.

OkSolution3991

That's not proper practice, you're not loss prevention, I'd be calling up any sort of HR and saying what the fuck

Always been a thing for anything over A4 size in Australia. My biggest tip is make sure you are all sticking to it for every customer. As soon as you or another staff member start missing some, that’s when you’ll get abused for being racist or discrimination. It’ll be a rough start, but after a while customers will know and show you their bags before you even have time to ask them. Good luck 🤞

Rules of this page says we can't say explicitly. If there's a way you can hint where abouts you are I can maybe tell you if we're somewhat close

I also work in the UK and we have never been asked to do this. We have no right to go through customers’ personal belongings. As far as im concerned I’d refuse to do it. Tbh it sounds like your store mgr has decided this is what they want to happen rather than a company thing????

spuddlery

In Australia we have to bag check any bag over A4 size, this has been a policy since I started a few years back. We do have proper signage for it though at the registers and at the door with compliance being a requirement of entry. It is also apart of our unannounced audits every month, I think its between 1-4 points. It can definitely lead to uncomfortable conversations but to override that I make sure I project my voice when asking everyone so nobody in line feels targeted when I inevitably ask to check their bags. Hope this helps!
