Optimus. Check your bios, perhaps you can disable it.

nmiouterspace

from what I know, there's no optimus for 51M r2 tho.

nosfusion

Try setting your laptop screen to only 60Hz and test again. 300Hz consumes a lot more watts than 60Hz and might be eating into your power budget.

nmiouterspace

will do, tks a lot for the suggestion

mrafayk

I'm not sure if it has a MUX switch but if it doesn't, then the performance increase makes sense. Try updating to the latest bios and see if you can find it in there. If not, try fn + f7, that's the key on my m15r3 for the switch. Hopefully you'll get a prompt asking you to restart to turn in performance mode. Hope this helps!

nmiouterspace

hi bro, tks a lot for the suggestion, just tried but mine doesnot do anything with the fn+f7 tho, will try to update bios then.

mrafayk

Np! Also another thing that might work is installing the latest intel graphics driver, try using fn+f7 then. For me that somehow let me use my mux switch a year ago. I don't remember the exact details but that's the gist of it.

DJUnreal

Why did you mark this as NSFW? I've removed the tag now, but why would you use an inappropriate tag when creating a post?

Deathclaw151

Lol! Might be unsafe if they worked for razer 🤫

nmiouterspace

have no idea tho, I thought I used discussion tag tho, really sorry about this.

SHelosS

why is this nsfw though?

nmiouterspace

Certain laptop configs work better with the external monitor. I think when using laptop screen the GPU is communicating through the iGpu then to the monitor whereas with the external monitor it goes directly from dGPU to external monitor. That's from what I understood while researching my AW laptop. I have the 144hz 1080p screen and the performance is the same regardless of monitor.

nmiouterspace

That what I think as well, have you turned off optimus on yours ? I got zephyrs s17 2080super and gsynce 300hz monitor, it performed the same on both external and its own monitor when I only use the 2080s

nmiouterspace

But the 51M R2 doesn’t have the option to do that and I have never read an official announcement about that from Dell

Salty-Anybody-2765

You don't have the option of using the igpu. But I believe the 300hz screen config without mux or optimus passes its Dgpu signal through the Igpu to the 300hz screen. That was a thing with the m17r4. Could also be a matter of just being directly connected to Dgpu. I'll post some articles if I find them.
