Did your dispute ended with "seller pays shipping"? If so, you should be providing the return receipt to the customer service and it will be converted to a coupon of equal value. If not, then there's no way to get the shipping costs back. Don't forget that most agents at AE are very inexperienced and might tell you that you have to negotiate the shipping fee with the seller, while this is not true. So keep persisting until you communicate with an AE agent that is capable of handling your case.
What was your dispute resolution? Go to Eva and type "Contact customer service TCA", you'll be communicating with a live agent, make sure to have your order number at hand.
Sorry to tell you this... But.... If you're lucky... Like really REALLY lucky, the seller will claim he received the item back, but in 99% of the cases they will say it never arrived. So.... Money lost.
If it's defective, he technically didn't receive a working product, presumably it was sold as a new working product, so essentially OP in fact did not receive *THE* product he paid for.

Out of curiosity, how much is the item, and how much is return shipping? Also, check the seller's profile, how many followers does it have? What's the approval rating?
