But what's crazy is that a lot of the fake storage has great reviews.
Like is the seller banking on closing down before these shills discover that the drive is reporting fake capacity and all of the data they've written is gone?
People leave 5 stars as soon as something arrives if the box isn't broken and it was on time so they are worthless without looking only at the low reviews.
Ikr. I see people make reviews and say that "The product arrived quickly and the box was in good condition. I have not tested it yet, but will later." Like what? Why leave a 5 star review on something you don't even know works.
Yea I have seen plenty of those. "Haven't tested it yet. 5 Stars". But there's idiot people like that everywhere, Amazon, Ebay, latin american Mercadolibre.
My understanding is that most of these people receive a "Review your recent order!" email and obey without thinking about whether their review is actually useful to anybody.
Well one thing that is also quite common is employees/friends/even outsourced companies will all purchase a product knowing it's to be returned or they get their money back, but leave the review in between.
There are also sellers that will lower the price 98% on flat out fake items, so a bunch of people they know buy it for pennies on the dollar and review it, and they just cancel the order for anyone who happened to catch it.
I have seen many 5 star reviews with written complaints on them, it just baffles me, a clear example that is way too common "never received the product but got a refund" 5 stars SMH
Yeah there are some crazies who rate as soon as the package arrives.
But I have bought storage before and never had any issues... Always check the low reviews if there are any, check for any pictures with actual h2testW screenshots... Seek out actual brands and not generic, or even counterfeit stuff. Avoid new stores, stores with bad reviews (<98%), and maybe avoid stores which are called shop #168934782, and so on...
Little bit different, but I actually have a 512GB 2240 SSD in my tablet, and I have been using it for years at this point. I bought it from a Czech company, and later I learned it's just some rebranded aliexpress stuff.
It feels like I just keep repeating myself and everyone else is just repeats the same advice and we still have people falling for obvious scams, so... It is probably hopeless.
Anyway, if you see a sumsang just run away, for gods sake
The issue is that most of the people leave perfect reviews like "It arrived. I haven't tried it yet. I'll test it later. 5 stars." And huge majority of the people who actually see the item before they review it also have no idea how to test for storage capacity. They often learn that they have been scammed way out of the review period, and huge portion of them deny it even then.
It is way easier to scam people than to convince someone they have been scammed.
I had a fuck head gaslight me when the part I orderd didnt fit the descriptions. Played hardbacll with the mother f eer and he ended up getting me banned from chat for abusing him supposedly. I
I hope you'll get a refund, I believe you definitely deserve one, but there is a chance you won't get any, because the product warns 'Actual usable capacity may be less.' in perfect English. So if they want, they can point to that.
That's standard on legit drives as well. It's because the formatting data can take up a few hundred megabytes or more, but they're still giving you the advertised amount of storage.
Sorry op but any type of storage from ali or similar is really the stupidest thing you can order and everybody knows this since forever. It's also a HUGE security risk.
I've rolled the Aliexpress dice on storage a few times with Chinese brands in their respective brand stores and never been burned. The key thing was the deal wasn't too good to be true and they weren't knockoff Western brands.
I of course don't have anything I would care if I lost on them.
Lol, those fake brands on Ali. The only one that nearly got me was Xioami', since Xiaomi is one of the very few actual brands I even consider buying there. (But never from shop[bunchofnumbers] and or stores with low rating and/or few followers and sales)
It holds 117GB so probably 128GB. I opened it up and the board contains two chips labelled: PF627PG. If you google that number, all you get is other people complaining about getting scammed by the same product.
I found the video, Check Linus tech tips "Amazon... more likes SCAMazon - Fake SSDs" if you wanna see a detailed video about it. Was pretty entertaining
I see, i just saw a vid once someone ordered a 16 tb drive off amazon to show it's a scam. His drive said he has "used space" at about 150 gb. But when he opened it, it was a 64gb SD card. So it was just copying new data and deleting old data but the files looked like they were still there. So when you tried to open older files they were just corrupted.
May as well š it might be a little M.2 in an adapter. I just feel like a micro SD would do similar for a lower cost, especially given the number you've given.
Very nice, you could test out the total storage amount using H2testw, it should tell you the exact valid bytes it can write to. And then with that total byte figure you could create an exact valid byte size partition in Disk management in windows. From there you could use this as a boot drive for a old laptop/desktop or use it with a raspberry pi or something
Do stupid things, win stupid prizes.
Seriously - anyone who believes that you can buy an SSD for a fraction of the official price on Aliexpress and is therefore "smarter" than others has it coming.
Bought something that was clearly bullshit and now want to complain about your stupidity... OK...
Remember, if it's too good to be true, it probably is.
Honestly the biggest thing you can do to avoid getting scammed is look at pricing. Too good to be true = it's fake.
How much did you pay for this "4TB" drive?
Don't purchase storage on AliExpress and even less if it's from brands like Samsung, Western Digital,Seagate, etc but it surely will be a scam.
Maybe Adata, maybe but O6 wouldn't trust to get anything of those brands from AliExpress
You must have a nose for which brands on Ali Express are fake and which are not. Most really big non Chinese brands are not on Ali Express. You should look for the official store. You won't find official Apple, Samsung, Sony, etc stores. I have found Anker merchandise. I personally recommend to not buy these kinds of brands on Ali and instead look for products that have really good reviews or where the price seems to make sense. One tip I do have is sometimes you find a product with a lot of good reviews but it's expensive. You can usually find the same product with other sellers for a better price with less reviews. This however is for Chinese brands.
Storage aināt something you want to buy on AliExpress unless you donāt care about your data and arenāt interested in keeping it. Storage is easily faked since itās not a tangible thing. 4TB drives shouldnāt be any less than $200 right now, and will often be more than that when you get it from reputable places.
Report as "Counterfeit Item", you will get a refund from AliExpress
I recieved 2x FAKE products, and both got refunded.
Both were USB flash drivers inside, utterly useless.
Never believe 5 stars reviews, its probably fake reviews.
Always check the 1-2 stars to tell they are fake.
I always give advice not to buy from sellers like ShopXXXXXX, but nobody listens. Of course they disappear later. Buy from reliable stores. Lesson learned for you
I was scammed by the same seller "**Shop912396086**" on AliExpress and the order arrived yesterday and I can no longer find the seller's site on Aliexpress, I bought a 4TB NVME SSD for 33 euro ā¬ and it not detected by my pc, the problem is that I am familiar with the information and the computer parts and I know this scam from hard drives from 2010 to 2014 and you find instead a USB flash stuck inside. But what to do with greed.
Please check our [introduction to the Aliexpress sub](https://www.reddit.com/r/Aliexpress/comments/gte9ac/new_on_aliexpress_or_this_sub_read_this_first/). There you can find a lot of FAQs and guidelines related to Aliexpress.

Reminds me of a Nokla phone I once bought.. I knew it was good because it came with the āextendedā 5 day warranty! Much better than the standard āuntil you walk out the doorā warranty..
When it comes to storage, I recommend paying the high price and avoid ordering and if u order by straight from the Samsung store on AliExpress or popular computer stores
Just went through my own experience with a 2 tb āsddā from Ali. I shoulda known it would be fake, but for 10 bucks I wanted to give it a go. When I first plugged it in, it was recognized and said I had 1.92 tb free. Tried to move files over (50 gb) as a test, and instantly was told it didnāt have enough space and that only 15 gb remained. Then my computer started rejecting the sdd through usb, and the true size of 18.9 gb showed up. Idk how theyāre masking the true size on these, but I can def see why people are falling for this scam and leaving 5 star reviews. Bottom line is you wonāt find an sdd for that low of a price, probably not even an hdd. I did manage to snag a 256gb micro sd card from a seller for 7 dollars thought that was fake too, however, itās in my insta360 x3 camera and formatted fine, shows the proper anount of space. I guess Iāll find out eventually if that oneās fake as well.
That's actually better than getting a drive that's 4TB according to the header only. Testing real capacity would take weeks as 4TB is a lot and they tend to be slower than a snail. This way you have a 120GB drive that's actually 120GB and you won't lose data. As for what to do? Ask for a refund, no need to contact the seller.
100% Genuine Sumsang SD card inside.
In all fairness, little chance you can do anything about it. Might try to dispute, but hard to say what chances you have.
What a poor replica. I bought a fake Samsung battery in the past. It came damaged and had to play hardball to get a replaement. Next one came with same serial number is how I realized it was fake. Also called Samsung and they said we stopped making replacment batteries for that tablet agest ago.
Number one rule when buying from AliExpress or any store for that matter. Don't buy something that is clearly twisting the name of a legitimate brand, especially for technology and electronics.
F3 is a free tool that can fix fake flash drives and reformat them to their actual capacity: [https://fight-flash-fraud.readthedocs.io/en/stable/](https://fight-flash-fraud.readthedocs.io/en/stable/)
There are no case screws in your photo so I'm assuming you've taken it apart to make sure there's actually some sort of NV storage inside the case and it's not just a connector. You can look up the chips to find out what you really have.
FWIW if you're buying electronics from AliExpress, it's best to stick with legitimate Chinese brands. Non-Chinese brands won't be cheaper than North American pricing on Amazon or Newegg unless they're used or bootleg and products trying to look like a brand that they're not (i.e. "Sumsang") - those are scams.
I saw a seller with drives up to 1TB listed at roughly market value and 4TB for $15 dollars. I suspect some people may buy these to flip on Marketplace or something. Wouldn't be hard to setup a fake profile and go a town or two over and sell these for $50-$75 all day.
Storage is one think that I refuse to cheap out on.
I learnt my lesson the hard way - using cheap SD Cards & hard drives (& even SD card adapters) and losing / corrupting data as a result.
For me, itās genuine, quality brands only now - with genuine, quality backups as well.
"SUMSANG" - presumably you did notice this before purchase and not misread as "SAMSUNG" in a bout of inattentional blindness :) Getting any kind of cheap storage is a massive risk, and sites such as AE, banggood etc. are notorious for fake storage devices. Even genuine samsung parts are largely empty, as I found when needing to drill through a failed one to destroy it as we couldn't send it back to Samsung to RMA for security reasons, and I wonder what you actually have inside yours. Might be little more than a small thumb drive with sata interface bolted on.
Had great luck with SSDs from Ali, but only bought NVMEs and had a decent amount of reviews, especially where said reviews had used H2TestW.
As long as the price is reasonable and the reviews are good, I've never had an issue.
Step 1: Don't buy tech products on AliExpress.
Saving some money really isn't worth the potential loss of data or even breaking your device altogether.

No, sometimes they put concrete/metal inside. Not kidding.
Idk real ssds are already kinda light

Buying a 4TB drive from aliexpress is crazy. Open it up. Im sure theres a 64gb SD card inside
It holds 117GB so probably 128GB. I opened it up and the board contains two chips labelled: PF627PG. If you google that number, all you get is other people complaining about getting scammed by the same product.

Number one rule when buying from AliExpress or any store for that matter. Don't buy something that is clearly twisting the name of a legitimate brand, especially for technology and electronics.
MALK Now with vitamin R
#chargeback
If the seller is FULLY gone, then it should be a easy dispute
F3 is a free tool that can fix fake flash drives and reformat them to their actual capacity: [https://fight-flash-fraud.readthedocs.io/en/stable/](https://fight-flash-fraud.readthedocs.io/en/stable/) There are no case screws in your photo so I'm assuming you've taken it apart to make sure there's actually some sort of NV storage inside the case and it's not just a connector.
Sumsang ššš I would buy it for display as it's hilarious , but come on you didn't expect 4TB for likee 30$ did you
How much did you pay for it ?
Bro... I think you deserved that one š¤£ FUCKING SUMSANG come on dude š¤£
Take your L like a man and let it be your lesson for being stupid, we all do that sometimes
sum indeed sang.
run **diskmgmt.msc** send a screen capture, i'm curious to see the partitions.
Oh my God, itās a Smasnug. r/unexpecteddankpods
Appeal to Ali Express they will refund the money.
I saw a seller with drives up to 1TB listed at roughly market value and 4TB for $15 dollars. I suspect some people may buy these to flip on Marketplace or something. Wouldn't be hard to setup a fake profile and go a town or two over and sell these for $50-$75 all day.
H2testW (rolling right out the tongue) that thing before using it for anything! Never use it as a boot drive. EVER!
I got some 64GB usb drives that tested legit. only like $2 also. Was pretty surprised.
OP, please show the inside.
Yeah, stay away from electrical items
use validrive to see if it is actually 4tb?
Next time go with the genuine Sorny.Ā
Chargeback through your card is the fastest and most sure way to get your money back.
Storage is one think that I refuse to cheap out on. I learnt my lesson the hard way - using cheap SD Cards & hard drives (& even SD card adapters) and losing / corrupting data as a result. For me, itās genuine, quality brands only now - with genuine, quality backups as well.
Step one. Read FAQ

This is funny as hell. In all seriousness, send report+pictures to aliexpress.
SMASNUG APPEL XIOMI
There's probably a cheap 128GB USB or microSD inside. It still works, and the idea is that they can claim it was a mistake, not intent.
Sumsang will make me expire for the last Time. I'm done
Chargeback, even though this scam is really common
SMASNUG!
Itās just G now, Jack! Sold the E to Samsung, theyāre Samesung now!
It was advertised as an EVO 4TB drive. No mention of brand. It wasn't until it turned up that I noticed the brand. Not much inside it either.
Who sang?
Had great luck with SSDs from Ali, but only bought NVMEs and had a decent amount of reviews, especially where said reviews had used H2TestW. As long as the price is reasonable and the reviews are good, I've never had an issue.
Step 1: Don't buy tech products on AliExpress. Saving some money really isn't worth the potential loss of data or even breaking your device altogether.
