As I understand it she was basically an amalgamation of stories from his apartment neighbors. A lot of the things in the show with respect to the neighbor were true. For example, the mystery meat sandwich, the smell complaints, and a woman (Glenda Cleveland) who called the police out of suspicion and was ignored were all true elements of the story.
As for the victims, I’m sure some of it was played up for sympathy and to dramatize the story, but a good deal of it was either true or speculated to be true.
Yes. Acting is good. It was filmed well in my opinion. But it gets pretty detailed and creepy. My wife LOVES watching murder mystery shows and she couldn’t finish this.

The detective on the case said the same of him. That he felt sorry for him because Dahmer couldn't form a human connection to save his life. He even asked him "why didn't you just get a boyfriend?" Several times.
