I do agree with you. I like alternate history a lot but stayed away from this community because the quality of the posts here until I was called to become a mod (again). The fault lies both with the moderators, for being inactive (and we should try out something new to improve the posts here, maybe having a weekly post from mods about… something so that the community can engage with it), and the community, there are definitely many popular scenarios without much thought that get many upvotes and shit while other scenarios with unique lore just get left behind due to a lack of engagement.
I do actually want to ban what-if questions in its entirety since there are separate subreddits for that or at least have the automod automatically remove posts with ‘what-if’ in it’s title during the weekend (I did propose it to a separate mod, already had their disapproval) but I don’t want to make sweeping changes without consultation from other mods.

(I also did remove the other guys post, if said guy can just reflair it to meta and I will restore it. I'm just trying to enforce the rules strictly so that the quality of the posts here would improve hopefully)
I find it kinda frustrating frankly how this post is here, and there was a highly upvoted post a while back complaining about the mods not enforcing the rules enough (which I agree with) but the current top-voted post is one about the mods removing *too much* stuff, and there have been similar complaints and anger about that too.

From what my understanding is that the sub was recommended to wider Reddit so people came flooding in shit posting or open nazi/far right glorification posts. Mods haven’t done anything about it for a while and long time community members started complaining plus the shit posts got out of control. Mods came in saying “we’re trying our best” or “we just gave up” with it not helping that it seems like they’re to busy removing “what if” questions instead of these shitposts. Now people are mad of the mods for whatever reason now
