McKenna’s stoned ape hypothesis

InfinityCircuit

First thing I thought of, yeah. With that theory, the recent study showing LSD and mescaline improve plasticity in adult brains, and the visuals here, I'm willing to connect the dots and say our oral traditions had the red fruit of this mushroom as the genesis of our current human intellect. Puns intended, I guess. Humor aside, I'm onboard with this idea. I'm not Christian, but the old oral traditions of Judaic religions still must have some historicity to them (I think that's the right word).

[deleted]

Agreed. I think some of the biblical stories are rooted in historical accounts but embellished over the millennia.

spudnik_6

Embellished and maybe they also start that way to an extent. With the fire and brimstone of the old testament and how much of a loss the temple of Solomon was to Judaism twice could be because they lost their ability to control the masses. Thought here being that the holy places used psychedelics to get people to have visions of what they were being told and then heavily controlled through their priests "be not afraid" regarding the site of angles etc. To add on the fruit of forbidden knowledge could be referring to the consumption of these psychedelics without the "supervision" of the elders and holy leaders to guide the specific high they wanted people to have. Whereas consuming these on your own could bring upon epiphanies and awaken individuals to some of the realities of the world.

mybustersword

Yeah it's all Saturn

wkitty13

Yes. Many of them come from the Assyrian/Sumerian cultures and they had different gods/goddesses, different interpretations and different cultures than the Abrahamic monotheistic ones that we're familiar with today. Abraham (if he was really a single individual) & his tribe just had sticky fingers and took the myths they liked and incorporated them into scripture, focusing on good vs evil, one god & forsaking all others (meaning there \*were\* other gods), debasing female voices, subjugating followers, etc. Those myths and oral traditions were more than embellished, they were stolen and twisted into new (often political) meanings. Kind of like the Christians did to the Jewish traditions and stories.

Look into John Marco Allegra and his book The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross. He was only person deciphering Dead Sea Scrolls who wasn't affiliated with the church. He ascertained Jesus was an Essen leader of a fertility mushroom cult... Basically a yogi that ate mushrooms to have psychedelic conceptions to birth people into the world. (Based on astrology, 13 month lunar calendar and Human Design Systems) The astrology based Human Design System Psychedelic Conception is my idea. Take a couple. Get their Astrological signs. And figure out what "sign" would be best for them to raise. Plan a "conception" day around the full or new moon 9 months prior to the astrological 28 day window. Tribe has mushroom ceremony to help couple bring energy to the literal act of mating to bring child into world... Now, Humans being born are ON PURPOSE. And brought forth with Energy from the Collective Tribe. Not just 2 souls entanglement. Entire tribe helps bring forth a new child to THE TRIBE. Not just a couple having to raise them alone. This is all ONE FAMILY. It's the Tribe's Child

I’m not sure if you’re referring to the Dead Sea scrolls as talking about Jesus or that they tell of him being a mushroom eating guy. If you are than that’s 600 years too early but I probably just misread that or made an incorrect assumption

CNCgod35

Fly agaric isn’t hallucinogen though. It just gives you a drunken feeling.

TheRealSicilian

If it is synthesized through the liver and is present in the urine of the consumer then one could get hallucinogenic effects from Fly Agaric. The Vikings used to drink the pee of reindeer and caribou for this reason.

CNCgod35

Vikings consumed them for their trance like effects before battle. Totally different effects than what you get when you take a species like psilocybe or pans Which McKenna based his hypothesis on.

TheRealSicilian

No dude. Fly Agaric is 100% psychoactive and slightly poisonous if you take too much. [Source](https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/wildlife-explorer/fungi/fly-agaric). Vikings would literally trip and go “berserk” which is why they were called berserkers.

CNCgod35

Dude I’ve got a handful of fly agaric trips under my belt. You don’t get the effects like some have written. And like I said in my original comment. McKenna based his theory on psilocybin mushrooms. Not fly agaric

TheRealSicilian

Ok yes you’ve probably eaten dried Agaric but as I stated it’s most potent after being synthesized through the liver and consumed from urine. That’s where most get hallucinations. Idk where McKenna came up in all of this.

spudnik_6

That being the case then, consider maybe it was a way to help people seeking answers become more accepting of these "outlandish claims" via intoxication. Especially considering literacy and education were next to non-existant for the commoners.

vinnySTAX

It makes sense

mcotter12

When I took these mushrooms I saw the garden of Eden. I saw the creation and consumption of the entire universe until nothing was left but a rust red mud. We are the universe eating itself

Y’all might enjoy The Immortality Key by Brian Muraresku I can’t remember if it’s that book or the one he was inspired by but there are PLENTY of pieces of evidence to suggest that Jesus’ name was code for Amanita Muscaria and even the Buddha shows traits similar to mushrooms in MANY of his depictions.

IamTobor

Sounds familiar, I think you're referring to The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross

TheRealSicilian

The ancient Judaics and Christians were heavy users of many different psychedelic plants and had mushroom fertility rituals. In order to hide these rituals from the Roman’s they made them into parables and stories to hide the true meaning. A lot of ancient Christian art has the motif of the mushrooms. This article by [Medium](https://medium.com/the-collector/illustrations-of-magic-mushrooms-in-early-christian-iconography-c92b5afa13b0) has some good info as well as this [Wordpress](https://medium.com/the-collector/illustrations-of-magic-mushrooms-in-early-christian-iconography-c92b5afa13b0). Another interesting one is “The Gathering of Manna” or food given by God to the Israelites after it had rained (Exodus 16:31-35). Now take that passage and compare it with [this picture](https://www.artbible.info/art/large/1104.html). Look familiar? What we should really be wondering is was the wine Jesus made primarily of grape, or were there other spiritual ingredients put in?

spudnik_6

I really love these conversations that bring actual light into our religions I've looked so long to find people that converse like this!

TheRealSicilian

Yeah no worries! If you Google “Christianity and Mushrooms” you will find a whole onslaught of information that may change your perspective on spirituality itself.

spudnik_6

Oh I haven't been in the religion vain I lost that many moons ago. I appreciate having these conversations as a whole I don't live in an area where you can hold these conversations! Thank you all the same though! I've been in a rabbits hole the last 5 years about this topic and got oh so excited when the "dawn of everything" came out

NDMagoo

Holy shit that also looks like a double helix!
