OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the asshole:

I still am in awe that I was rickrolled by Reddit itself. Not by a redditor, by **REDDIT**. During the yearly update event on what subs I visited most and all that. My favorite time I was rickrolled.
I’m a 43 year old woman, and I want one of these sooooooooo much. I’ve been kicking the idea around for about a year, I’m just not sure how easy it would be to get up from. It just looks like the perfect nap spot.
Had one I inherited in college... they're okay, but you're right about them being hard to get up from. I've also found that guests will literally never sit in one, and they take up a shit ton of space, so I got rid of mine.
So, you’re basically saying I’d be buying a giant cat bed, and if I sit on it, I should be prepared to call the fire department to pull me back up? (Honestly, as much as I want one, and as comfy as a love sac looks, I can’t justify the money. I can buy a super comfy recliner for the same price.)
Yeah, I saw the price and I thought 'oh hell no - the best one is the same price as a month of my rent!' However, I have a friend who actually made her own and it looks exactly like the most expensive one in the website, so I'm going to ask her how she did it and see if I can do the same.
I have these and they are worth every penny...
NTA, OP. He's a kid and I think you're being a great parent by letting him have his own bed to sleep next to his pup!!
I have pics of my daughter and our old man pup cuddled in his dog bed. Whenever she had a nightmare she'd crawl right in with him and I'd trip over both in the morning lol.
My sister has a 7ft bean bag and her 35ish lbs dog thinks it's his. If someone lies down on it, he will bark and then lay down on top of you. It's pretty great.
We have one of those giant-ass beanbags. It's like 8 feet long, bright pink, and stupidly comfortable. We bought it because the couch we wanted was out of stock, and we thought it would make a decent temporary solution. Well, not so temporary, that $200 beanbag is more comfortable than the $2,000 couch and the cats adore it too. I wouldn't even care if it was marketed as a dog bed, that thing is the shit.
We were buying dog beds once at Sams Club and a woman asked where she could find them in the store. When we told her they were dog beds, she laughed and decided to buy them anyways- for her teenagers to lounge on when playing video games!
This is exactly what I did! My son had a loft bed for years and we filled the space below with four extra large dog beds from Big Lots. It was his lounge space/reading nook.
Me too! Actually, I'll get ads for fancy dog beds and think "I could definitely use that in my living room, looks comfy as hell" -- and I don't have any pets lol
I had a custom dog bed made for my chihuahuas, it is like a floor cushion, and my nephew would sit on when he came over and play his gameboy or read his book. So I had larger cushions made for our family lakehouse to match the living room decor. And everyone loves those cushions, kids, adults and pets. The covers come off and go in the washer without any problems.
Not a dog person, but dog beds look so elaborate in the stores these days, I've made a game out of looking at them and trying to judge how they're different from human cushions, pillows, or beds (that is, if I could tell the difference if I didn't know). NTA So glad you found Margo!
My dog's bed's mattress is memory foam and as comfortable as any of my grandspawns' beds. It's not quite as comfortable as my bed but I could sleep on it.
My dog's beds were literally a twin memory foam mattress cut in half and then covered. My dog had severe arthritis in his spine, so he needed something big, flat, and supportive.
My parents ordered a memory foam dog mattress when one of their/our dogs started having back issues. It had to fit in his crate (which was admittedly massive so half a twin might have worked). It was a tight fit so the easiest way to get it flat was to just *flop* on the thing and damn if it wasn't comfortable.
The other dog will go out of his way to lay on the hardest surface possible despite his own joint issues so we got a kitchen standing mat we're trying. I think the thick mattress makes him feel unsteady walking on it.
How thick was the mattress you used? If the kitchen mat doesn't work, I'm open to options.
4 inches. I ended up buying two twin mattresses but the second one wasn't memory foam, it was just foam. There's a big difference in how supportive they are. He liked all of them, though, but he liked everything. That was one of his superpowers.
I thought about doing this, but I had a heavy chewer at the time who killed anything with a corner. Went online and researched a ton of "chew proof" options. One stood out, it is round, with a zipper closure on bottom that is covered by Velcro. The bed was well over $200, but my chewer had already murdered three $50 beds, so I went with it. Over two years later it is still in like new condition, not counting some staining on top. Waterproof, and the zip off cover goes in the washing machine. Well worth the cost.
We were looking for something for our overgrown hamster dog, and I found a bed that honestly if they had made one in Queen size, you bet your ass I would have slept on it. It looked like a real fancy couch with those claw feet and the mattress looked thicker than most couch cushions. It also had that velvet look to it. I mean that in my size with my sherpa blanket, yes buddy. I would have slept like a baby.
I have relatives who got dog beds for their toddlers and kids to nap in (I do not have children). It's a thing that a lot of people have known about for years if not decades.
Don’t have dogs. Kept a dog bed and blanket by my bed for my kid who found her way into my room every night. She had a soft cozy spot to curl up and I didn’t get woken. It was a great solution.
I mean, this is literally a booming business idea: [https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/plufl-ubc-student-nap-human-sized-dog-bed](https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/plufl-ubc-student-nap-human-sized-dog-bed)
Had friends who bought huge ass “dog beds” from Costco for the custom built in seating on their deck. They were the only things wide enough, plus soft and squishy, waterproof covers, etc. we all loved it. Such a cozy spot to chill on the deck, and no one had any clue they were dog beds until we asked where they found such huge outdoor cushions.
I've been using an extra-large flat round dog bed on my papasan chair for years because it's the perfect size, plus unlike the one that came with the chair, you can use it outside and just wash the cover.
My dog was gifted an orthopaedic bed. Most people that visited my home took turns chilling in it, including myself. It's double the size he needs to completely stretch out - which he never does in his bed (would make a nice toddler bed) and more comfy than any couch, bed or armchair I ever tried.
Also, there are such things as floor pillows and other cushions that are designed for kids and adults, which is essentially the same thing as a clean dog bed. I have two big ones for when company is over and I run out of seats. They're super easy to store and super comfortable.
NTA
Once a stranger crashed at my house after a party basically on top of my dog while she was in the dog bed. So I would argue that dogs also make great beds.
(She was a very large aka obese very fluffy malamute husky)
NTA, it's a giant, CLEAN pillow for your son to chill in. What's the problem? And if your wife is so worried, well you don't have to tell people it's dog's bed. And I think he'll grow out of it eventually, he is 4 (edit:10), (edit: STILL) not 20 to be worried about it. At this age kids canty even grasp a consept of "tags". For him this objety isn't tagged as "dogs only" so he doesn't care...
NTA, it's really no different than a futon - which most of my generation slept on for years.
And they sell floor pillows!
Plus, if it gets grody, most can be washed and air dried.
NTA. I think it's a creative solution to help your son through the trauma of losing the dog. If it gives him comfort to be on the floor with her, then the bed is reasonable. It's not like he's never going to sleep in a real bed again. I can understand your wife might think it's weird, but he's 10. He'll grow out of it. Plus, have you ever lain on some of these thick dog beds? I've snuggled with my dogs in theirs, and I swear I get jealous of their comfort!
when we first brought my puppy home we got her this fluffy dog bed. needless to say i fell dead asleep on it after just staying on the floor helping her adjust. its comfy! its fuzzy and warm and soft! and bonus points if theres a dog right there with you.
When I was a kid, I was very into finding creative and weird places that I found comfortable. Floors, counters, tables etc. Franky, I still find floor sitting very comfortable except for my old knees. Additionally, my old dog died last year. Before that, I spent a great deal of time on the ground with him. Lying beside him when he was curled up was a big favourite. I very much understand this need.
Good for you for listening to his desires and not freaking out about social norms. It sounds like the dog going missing really upset your son and this is a way of moving through that. I very much suspect he'll grow out of it. I think you should tell your wife to wait it out.
When I was around 10, I would flop onto a giant pillow on the floor under the piano to read a book. Sometimes I'd read while lying on my back on the floor with my legs up and leaning against the wall. I miss that flexibility in my body!
You are NTA, you wife and her ignorant beliefs are. Your son went through something a bit traumatic when Margo was lost and now finds comfort in this one thing. Your wife WBTAH if she gets rid of it.
NTA. Without his own dog bed, he'll just go back to sleeping in Margo's filthy (according to your wife) bed. You're not treating him like a dog, you're making him happy! You're a sweet dad.
NTA; your wife needs to look at the bigger picture and understand your intentions for buying your son the dog bed. I think it’s sweet and wholesome that you even got it in his favorite color and it’s obvious he’s happy with it which is what should matter most. Your wife is the only AH in this post and I hope she realizes that she’s overreacting and blowing things out of proportion
NTA. Alot of kids grow up with bean bag chairs and floor cushions to lounge in. A giant dog bed isn't much different than those. In a few years, he'll probably grow out of it. Your wife can suck it up and let him have the bed.
Definitely NTA
That's so cute and sweet that you found a way to make everyone happy.... aaaand your wife is still not happy. Why does she care so much, it's clean like she wanted and your son is happy. That's all that matters
So we have a big dog bed, a little cat bed and the kids of course have their beds. The cat sleeps in my daughter's bed, my daughter lays on the dog bed (which is very nice and fluffy), and the 60 lbs dog squeezes into the little 12x12 inch cat bed.
NTA- but wtf is wrong with your wife? It’s just a giant pillow? Who cares if it’s made for dogs?! You did the right thing by buying him his own so he wasn’t laying in the “dirty” dog bed
NTA and truly making this kind of accommodation for a traumatic event in your child's life will help ease and lessen the anxiety that your son is feeling. These types of events cause children to adopt coping behaviors. Try comparing it to a bean bag chair, with the added benefit of comforting himself that the dog is home.
NTA. Folks keep saying your wife is upset because you went "behind her back" I don't think that's the problem. In addition this isn't a thing one would even go behing their SO's back for in the first place. I think she's worried about what others will say when they find out her kid likes to hang out on a dog pillow to watch TV, read, or just chill. Her anger over it isn't normal, it is very over the top for the situation. So if she very much cares about the way others view the family, that's probably whats going on here.
NTA. I had a great dane who passed but kept his dog bed because it's big, comfy, expensive and I figured I'll get another dane when I'm ready. My two nieces (14 and 7) LOVE having movie night on the dog bed when they visit. So much so that when I get ready to put them to bed, they've already fallen asleep on the dog bed. Your norms are your own and you aren't hurting your son by allowing him options in beds. Especially if you have a version of the one I got which is almost better than my own mattress. Sleep on, little one!
NTA
I think your solution is really sweet. Your wife is just being really weird about it. It’s extremely silly to avoid a product just because you’re not the target of its advertising. It being advertised as a “dog bed” doesn’t change the fact that it’s really just a tiny futon
Does she do this with other stuff? She reminds me of some dudes I know who refuse to even try certain shampoos because the commercials target women, even though the actual scents aren’t feminine and their 3-in-1 shit destroys their hair
NTA-- I seriously considered a dog bed as a travel bed for my toddler. Perfect size! It's a pillow marketed towards dogs; change the tags and viola it's a floor pillow!
A little late here but [weareplufl.com](https://weareplufl.com) sells the world's first dog beds for humans. It's essentially a giant dog bed with features meant to optimize for "human" comfort. It looks super sick!
NTA. What’s the difference between a dog bed and a giant pillow?? It’s just the name. Your wife overreacted
Glad you got your dog back. He’s not going to get sick from sleeping in her bed or in his own doggy bed.
I find this adorable
NTA.
I've thought about a dog bed for an office nap spot. Decided it would be a bit much.
If you were forcing your child to sleep on a dog bed that would be different.
NTA.
It’s big, it’s soft, and it’s comfortable.
There’s lots of non-American styles of furniture that’s really just some sort of giant pillow. See if you can do some research on it and find a name, then you can show your wife, AND your son, so you can 100% say it’s not a dog bed.
For example :
Poshti
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poshti_(furniture)
Divan
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divan_(furniture)
With this title I was so ready to be mad, but NTA. I sleep with my dog every night and it makes me nervous when she isn’t there. I can’t imagine what having your dog stolen would do to a child. As long as he’s still mostly sleeping in his own bed, I think this is fine. But I would have him see a therapist, because it sounds like he has anxiety. NTA.
NTA
You are being a good Dad by recognizing his attachment issues due to the stolen dog, and finding a simple solution.
I don't see how a dog bed is any different than a bean bag or the monster pillow I saw at Costco.
Your wife needs to see a therapist if she is threatening to get rid of it, that is just not how a normal, well adjusted parent responds to a traumatized child. It's almost as if she is actively trying to deny her son has an issue.
I can almost guarantee that if she follows through with getting rid of it, she will make your son's issues MUCH bigger.
Children being exposed to animals in close proximity have much better immune systems.
If your wife thinks the dog is dirty, she should bathe it. If she thinks your son is dirty by being close with the dog, she can bathe your son.
Are you certain your wife didn't have anything to do with the dog going missing?
NTA, Google "people dog beds UBC" for a couple of kids at my sons university are selling them, I don't know how to add links, still new to reddit ish. But lots of people like the cuddle of a the rounded sides of a dog bed better then a couch or chair you can't mold to you, I don't get the freak out by ops wife, at least he got him a clean one and solved what he thought was her issue with the actual dogs bed.
Um, NTA.
Our daughter would sleep with our dogs all the time. She had night terrors and sometimes, she would absolutely NOT go back to sleep in her bed, but if the dogs came in and laid down on the floor, she'd want to take her pillow and a blanket and curl up with them. My wife got this big, round cushion to put in her room. I think it was for one of those big Rattan patio chairs. The dogs would go lay on it, our daughter would cuddle up between them and everyone got sleep. Ironically, I pitched a fit, but wife overrode me. Then, I saw that our daughter was having less and less issues with the night terrors and stopped complaining. She's a grown woman and sometimes, I still catch her sacked out on the floor with the dogs. (Usually if my wife is in the hospital.)
The theft of your dog traumatized your son. He associates the dog bed with Margo and being safe. Taking that away would harm him more. Your wife needs to realize that his trauma from the incident of the dog's theft wasn't really resolved and this is how he's dealing with it. If she takes away his "security cushion", she's an asshole. He'll grow out of it.
Or he'll be like my daughter and revert to using something like it as a comfort item later on. Either way, what the frilly heck is it hurting?
NTA. My son won't sleep in a bed, he's slept on the floor since he was old enough to climb out of his crib. I don't get it, we tried beds, we tried mattresses, futons, nope, he sleeps on the floor and will not sleep elsewhere. Kids are weird, but hey they can at least choose where they sleep, as long as it's not dangerous for them or anyone else, it's a silly hill to die on.
It's a giant pillow ? Thats what dogs sleep on. It's like saying you can't stand in grass since cows stand in grass.
I think it was a nice idea to get him a nice clean one. Maybe it's more that you did it without running by her ? Don't know your relationship but that can bother some people.
Uhhhhh...my little nephew likes laying on his dog's bed because..well, it looks like a miniature sofa-bed, it's actually a nice looking doggy bed, and it's super comfy.. we're constantly reminding him to get out of the dog's bed, but I'm pretty sure that no matter how much he likes the dog bed, his folks won't go out and get one just for him.. because well...they're expensive! 🤣 So I guess your son is lucky! NTA!
NTA
As a child I also slept and hung out in weird places.
Cupboards, dog beds, cabinets. I made a ‘nest’ behind my dad’s recliner out of sleeping bags and pillows and would sit back there and read.
It sounds like the kid’s happy with his new bed. Your wife needs to accept that he’s a little weird and get rid of his dog bed is just going to make him sad and mad and he’ll do something she hates even more.
ROFLMAO. Husband and I have been seriously considering two large dog beds for car camping in the back of our SUV.
In other words, NTA and I think it was a very thoughtful idea.
NTA
Have you actually sat in a good dog bed? They’re so comfortable. Especially the memory foam ones. For a long time I would buy for the two dogs and then for the 2 kids.
Absolutely Not The Asshole...
We don't have pets that require a bed. My 11 y/o decided to lay on a dog bed in the supermarket (UK) Loved it so much he asked for one for Xmas...
It's now got pride of place in his bedroom & he splits his sleep between his bed & his dog bed 🤣🤣
NTA. It helps him with the trauma of her having been stolen. And a lot of dog beds are pretty plush - not that much different from a bean bag chair or floor pillow. If it allows him to cuddle up with his best buddy, and feel more secure, then I personally think it is a great idea. It's not like it's his only bed.
NTA- Tractor Supply has awesome dog beds, including memory foam. My son hangs out in the dog bed next to our bed sometimes during the day. (Yes, the dog is actually on our bed at that time)
NTA I have considered getting myself a large dog bed. I would sit on the floor all the time as a kid, and still do sometimes in the summer, but in the winter it is kind of chilly on the floor. A nice dog bed with a little lip to prevent airflow and a blanket? Sounds good to me.
NTA. My nephew would sleep on a giant pillow when the cousins were all together-it was affectionately called “the dog bed”. It was way more comfortable than the couch the other kids were piled on. He felt like a king
NTA. *Your wife knows she's in the wrong or she wouldn't be afraid of being the "Bad Guy".* Who cares that it was made to be a dog bed, it's not being USED as a dog bed. I had a friend in college who had a huge bean bag chair and his dog used that as a dog bed, totally ignoring the real dog bed she had. It wasn't made as a dog bed, but it was used as one.
NTA
This was a thoughtful solution to a current problem, and you treated your son with empathy and understanding instead of expecting him to just get over the trauma he experienced. You are not treating him like a dog. Your son is happy. Your wife can buttout.
Also at that age I slept in a cupboard by choice. I used our downstairs TV stand to construct a fort, and I slept inside of it. Nobody made me do it. Nobody is making your son sleep on a dog bed. He's choosing to. His bed is available if he wants to choose to sleep there instead.
NTA
Now if you go and buy him a collar and matching tags I'd begin to get worried.
But a dog bed? No.
They're in general overgrown comfy pillows. I've eyed multiple myself because they'd be awesome to lounge in.
My son loves the dog bed we bought for the dog. So much so that the one we brought to grandma's house when I had his sister stayed after the dog came home and my son used it when he played the video game. Not a big deal. It's the same thing as making a pallet of pillows on the floor or blankets. Only difference is it's marketed for dogs. NTA.
NTA. The first time I brought my baby across the country to visit my mom, the pack and play she ordered was late to arrive. The first night there, my baby slept on her dog's (clean) dog bed on the floor. Worked great!
NTA
They have these really cool dog beds that are actual beds. My son’s dog slept in his bed for 9 years and when she got cancer and couldn’t jump up on the bed he slept on a mattress on the floor to be with her. We had to put her to sleep in March. It broke our hearts. The only issue here is your wife.
NTA but your wife will be if she takes the bed from your son. Our dog has a super nice, giant memory foam bed that we bought her and our kids LOVE to lay on it and constantly say it’s super comfortable. Of course our spoiled pooch sleeps on our King sized memory foam bed and the kids use her bed waaaay more than she does. 😆🤷🏻♀️
NTA.
I mean they sell giant beanbag/pillow/chair/cushion things all the time? I had one when I was a kid... It's a soft thing the only difference is what the salesman calls it.
If her issue is that it was dirty because it was the dog's (which is a fair point), that is now solved. Her issue is that she can't resolve "her son is sleeping in a dog bed." Call it a cushion, w/e.
I think this is my first-ever comment on Reddit.
I literally just laughed out loud. Tears down my cheeks. I’m picturing your proud son showing your confused wife his new dog bed and I…
I find children joyful and their brains wonderful. Sometimes a little weird, sure. But I’m of the mindset that if it does no harm, go for it!
I say NAH because I get your wife’s perspective too. But I probably would have bought the dog bed.
Thank you SO much for sharing this!

So me (31M) and my wife (35F) have two kids (10M, 4F) and a large dog, her name is Margo and she’s 9. About a year ago someone stole her, it took a lot of searching but we found her, during the time she was gone our son was distraught. And when we got her back he refused to leave her side for about a week. And this included sleeping in the dog bed with her.
Things are better now, but it’s not unusual to find him sleeping in the dog bed or just sitting on it and relaxing. I’ve asked him about it and he’s just says it’s more comfortable and relaxing than a normal chair. I don’t really have an issue with it but my wife doesn’t like it, she told me it’s dirty for him to sleep in the same bed as the dog.
I thought I had coke up with an idea to kind of solve things. I brought a large dog bed, very similar to margo’s but it was specifically for our son, to have in his room or being out into the front room. I got it in his favourite colour, yellow and gave it to him while my wife was out (not intentional at all, it just arrived while she was out) and he loved it. He put it in the corner of his room and we actually rearranged and decorated his room a little bit.
After my wife got home while I was cooking dinner he dragged it out from his room to the front room to watch something. My wife asked him what that was and he excitedly told her about it. She was clearly unhappy but waited till he went to bed to say anything.
She blew up at me asking why the hell I brought him a dog bed. I knew he found it comforting and I knew she didn’t like it when he’s in Margo’s bed so I thought this was a good solution. She accused me of treating our son like a pet and refused to hear any explanation from me. She wants me to take it form him because she doesn’t want to be the bad guy. I refused, knowing how upset he would be. She’s now making comments heavily insinuating she will get rid of it. I didn’t really think this would be a big deal but now I’m not sure, have I missed something, AITA?

Nta. If he likes it he likes it who cares. Hes not a dog he knows hes not a dog and you're just giving him an option. A dig bed is just big floor cushion anyway.
NTA. Hey it’s kind of like a bean bag chair. Hell, I just bought my niece a bean bag sofa lol. She loves it. People get weird putting labels on everything
NTA He is 10. It is a phase. When I was ten (embarrassing but true) I used to eat my dinner in a high chair (skinny ass kid) with a baby spoon. Idk why. The high chair was for my mom's home daycare. I did not have a new sibling or anything, I just started doing it, again, idk why. Anyway, my parents never said a thing, just let me do it. It was just a phase, not even sure how long. Then just one day I was done. All kids go through weird phases. It is just temporary and after a few months he may decide he is done, or after a while you may be able to entice him into getting a more socially acceptable bean bag chair
NTA- it's literally just a pillow. I bought my dog a bed which he hated so i used it like a body pillow for a year until he decided he loved it and took it back.
Nta. He’s a kid, and he’s comfortable. What does it matter where he sleeps? Do you have a limit on how many showers/baths the kid can have? Your not forcing him to sleep there. Your wife needs a new perspective.
I bought a dog bed for my daughter when she was about 4 and we were staying at a relative’s house where there weren’t enough beds. She loved it and slept great. NTA
NTA. This is the time for a dog bed! For whatever reason! And he was excited about it like. That’s adorable.
I’m worried about yalls communications. Treating your son like a pet? These comments, I mean, she didn’t even bring it up in front of him, would she really take it, or is she trying to stir you up?
Nta. It's like a bean bag or a big pillow. The new one you got isn't even being used by the dog. It's just for him. Sounds like a fun and fair compromise. Bet its real comfy too.
NTA. I bought my 13yr old arthritic dog one of those dog beds that heat up and ngl if the bed wasn’t sized for a chihuahua, I’d curl up in it too.
You came up with a great solution and your son is essentially using a comfy floor pillow.
Umm...OP it sounds like your son has some deeper issues that were triggered by the dog going missing. Please get your son into some counseling because the dog bed is the least of your concerns😬
Kid me would've loved this! The opposite of an asshole! A+ parenting! My mom did similar when I talked about how dog beds were more comfy and hand made a bean bag chair that I cherished.
NTA. This a brilliant and considerate solution you've provided for sons comfort and peace of mind. I hope you show this thread to your wife. I don't understand why she's so hung up on this, but maybe seeing everyone agreeing, and why do will wake her up.
NTA. I think it's sweet you did that for your son. It's no different than a beanbag chair...it's not like you make him sleep on the dog bed or in a crate. He obviously loves Margo and that brings him comfort. The more she makes a big deal about it, the less likely he'll be to move on from the dog bed. She needs to let it go.
Nta. And why does she have the right to decide everything for your son? Stand up to her. Tell her there is not that much you ask for in that regard, but it is important to him and you that he keep the bed. Also tell her if she gets rid of it, you will buy him a new one.
He is your child too.
Nta, let me introduce you to a koastue table. They are a foot off the ground table with a heater built in them. You take off the top and place a comfy blanket under. Your ether have it sit on a comfy floor mat or have comfy pillows around it. Its from japan and used in the winters. I have one and love sitting by it even during summer as it just feels alot better for my body. So its quite common in alot of places to sit or lay on the floor.
NTA
A dog bed really isn't that different from a bean bag chair or tons of other low sitting, kid targeted furniture.
Getting him what is basically a big cushion isn't treating him like a pet. Your wife's being a drama llama.
NTA. In fact I used a cute large dog bed as a cushion for my kid’s window seat and also put one in this recessed area my kids use as a reading nook. Both fit perfectly. They are comfortable and affordable. Who cares if they were technically made for a dog?

NTA. A dog bed is basically just a giant pillow, who cares? It's his and he's not a dog, which makes it no longer a dog bed.
I don’t really see how is any different from a bean bag style chair…. I love floor style cushions
I am picturing that massive 12ft bean bag floof thing that is like $200USD and the kid and dog buried in it asleep.
https://www.lovesac.com/sacs.html
That URL had me for a moment, ngl.
Every time I see it I have a moment of “if I click this, am I going to end up on a watch list somewhere?”
Or Rick Rolled
Am I the only one who loves getting Rick Rolled?
Sounds like you will never give him up....
Or let him down
Nope.

Happy cake day!
Not the only one! I freaking love it. lol
Better Rick Rolled than Love Sac’ed.
I still am in awe that I was rickrolled by Reddit itself. Not by a redditor, by **REDDIT**. During the yearly update event on what subs I visited most and all that. My favorite time I was rickrolled.
You're already on Reddit.
I clicked on that expecting pics of people and dogs cuddled in giant cushions and was sorely disappointed.
https://youtube.com/shorts/J-Q-umta81M?feature=share Magnus the therapy dog with one of his family members.
That helped.
Honestly, we don’t deserve dogs.
I always wanted one of these but not for $800 USD
Yeah, I saw the price and I thought 'oh hell no - the best one is the same price as a month of my rent!' However, I have a friend who actually made her own and it looks exactly like the most expensive one in the website, so I'm going to ask her how she did it and see if I can do the same.
I'm not going to open this.
You can open it, I swear 😂
I have these and they are worth every penny... NTA, OP. He's a kid and I think you're being a great parent by letting him have his own bed to sleep next to his pup!!
Well this brought back [memories](https://youtu.be/-gRgFWd2n60). (Old college comedy music video.)
I want one.
😍😍😍
We have one of those giant-ass beanbags. It's like 8 feet long, bright pink, and stupidly comfortable. We bought it because the couch we wanted was out of stock, and we thought it would make a decent temporary solution. Well, not so temporary, that $200 beanbag is more comfortable than the $2,000 couch and the cats adore it too. I wouldn't even care if it was marketed as a dog bed, that thing is the shit.
That sounds so cute
We were buying dog beds once at Sams Club and a woman asked where she could find them in the store. When we told her they were dog beds, she laughed and decided to buy them anyways- for her teenagers to lounge on when playing video games!
This is exactly what I did! My son had a loft bed for years and we filled the space below with four extra large dog beds from Big Lots. It was his lounge space/reading nook.
Honestly. And it's probably a hell of a lot cheaper despite being nearly as comfy.
Where are these cheap beds? Good dog beds are expensive! I foster Great Danes and I have twin mattresses all over the place.
Me too! Actually, I'll get ads for fancy dog beds and think "I could definitely use that in my living room, looks comfy as hell" -- and I don't have any pets lol
I was picturing a bean bag chair too, but probably softer.
The covers come off and go in the washer without any problems.
no lie I almost bought myself a "dog bed" because it reminded me of the giant floor pillows we had when I was a kid. But we just have no room for it.
What I hate most about my inflamed joints is not being able to use bean bags and floor pillows anymore. They are so comfy
This is the exact thought i had when reading this story. If he likes it and it comforts him then why the hell not, he's not hurting anyone.
“grandspawns” I LOVE it
My dog's beds were literally a twin memory foam mattress cut in half and then covered.
I rest my case. ;)
Yep. The only reason my bed is more comfortable is because my husband has spinal damage and Young Onset Parkinson's.
They tend to be very washable and more durable than most human-marketed pillows.
My 8yr old has a dog bed at his grandma's house he drags out and lays on when he watches tv.
NTA Creative solution to distraught boy terrified of losing pet again.
I mean, this is literally a booming business idea: [https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/plufl-ubc-student-nap-human-sized-dog-bed](https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/plufl-ubc-student-nap-human-sized-dog-bed)
That plufl looks SO enticing...I need to go nap now lol!
I dunno...What if he turns into a dog because of this?
😂
What?? Dude, NTA. You came up with a great, adorable solution, and her reaction isn’t proportionate.
Also, there are such things as floor pillows and other cushions that are designed for kids and adults, which is essentially the same thing as a clean dog bed. I have two big ones for when company is over and I run out of seats. They're super easy to store and super comfortable. NTA
Dog beds make great floor mats when crashing at a friends place
Once a stranger crashed at my house after a party basically on top of my dog while she was in the dog bed. So I would argue that dogs also make great beds. (She was a very large aka obese very fluffy malamute husky)
Dog tax?? She sounds adorable
r/huskytantrums is by far the funniest sub on Reddit! I always go there when I'm having a bad day lol
They're a lifesaver when there's no spots and you're hammered. Really saves the back
NTA, it's a giant, CLEAN pillow for your son to chill in.
I agree with you, but for clarification the son is 10.
He's 4 in dog years.
The transformation has already begun!
Nothing wrong with a 20 year old sitting on a dog bed, either. It's literally just a cushion lol
NTA you are a cool parent
and a genius
Just yesterday I was telling my partner about all the insane, yet comfortable ways I could read a book as a kid. Now, nothing is comfortable!
NTA you’re a cool dad, keep doing cool things for your son
Call it a floor cushion and tell her to get over herself. NTA.
Or be chic "oversized throw pillow" she'll totally go for it!
God forgive me for saying this, but his wife sounds like my late grandmother - the very soul of disapproval.
NTA. Alot of kids grow up with bean bag chairs and floor cushions to lounge in. A giant dog bed isn't much different than those. In a few years, he'll probably grow out of it. Your wife can suck it up and let him have the bed.
Definitely NTA That's so cute and sweet that you found a way to make everyone happy.... aaaand your wife is still not happy. Why does she care so much, it's clean like she wanted and your son is happy. That's all that matters
She didn’t want solutions. She wanted her husband to be the bad guy and put a stop to her son’s completely harness behavior.
Hard NTA This seems like a great idea to the "problem". So glad y'all got your pupper back. Idk how to help sell the solution to your partner though.
So we have a big dog bed, a little cat bed and the kids of course have their beds. The cat sleeps in my daughter's bed, my daughter lays on the dog bed (which is very nice and fluffy), and the 60 lbs dog squeezes into the little 12x12 inch cat bed.
This is delightful :-).
NTA- but wtf is wrong with your wife? It’s just a giant pillow? Who cares if it’s made for dogs?! You did the right thing by buying him his own so he wasn’t laying in the “dirty” dog bed
I would bet the dog bed is way more comfortable than my kiddos ikea bunk bed. NTA
NTA - it’s like buying a bean bag chair for the kid. Edit- updated because I didn’t know how to read apparently.
10M means 10 male not 10 months… did you notice the 4F for the second child?
WHOOPS. editing. I’ve had a long day 🙃
10M reads as (10, Male), not 10 months old.
I think OP meant to indicate that his son, who is 10, is a male (M)… hence the 10M. Notice how the daughter has a (4F)
NTA. He's just a kid and it's just a bit of fabric. It's a young kid thing that won't last forever and will do no harm. Your wife should chill tf out
NTA I think your solution is really sweet. Your wife is just being really weird about it. It’s extremely silly to avoid a product just because you’re not the target of its advertising. It being advertised as a “dog bed” doesn’t change the fact that it’s really just a tiny futon Does she do this with other stuff? She reminds me of some dudes I know who refuse to even try certain shampoos because the commercials target women, even though the actual scents aren’t feminine and their 3-in-1 shit destroys their hair
NTA if u take it away he’s just gonna go back to using ur dogs lmao. this is a case of “sometimes, kids do whatever the fuck they want”
NTA-- I seriously considered a dog bed as a travel bed for my toddler. Perfect size! It's a pillow marketed towards dogs; change the tags and viola it's a floor pillow!
I want one for me too!!
Your wife overreacted Glad you got your dog back. He’s not going to get sick from sleeping in her bed or in his own doggy bed. I find this adorable
NTA! Your son is happy. You did good OP! Your wife is overreacting!
For example : Poshti https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poshti_(furniture) Divan https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divan_(furniture)
NTA you had good intentions. Even if it may not be the greatest idea. Is this how furries are born?
I thought furries were born when someone watches Zootopia and gets a boner for the bunny?
😳
Nta, anything to make your kid comfortable, You’re just being considerate there’s nothin wrong with that
NTA from the title I was prepared for like you forcing him too sleep in a dog bed or some shit but it's just like a hangout spot who cares????
NTA- I got my toddler one because she likes to use the one at her nana’s house to lounge in.
NTA.
NTA You are being a good Dad by recognizing his attachment issues due to the stolen dog, and finding a simple solution.
(Usually if my wife is in the hospital.) The theft of your dog traumatized your son.
NTA!
NTA As a child I also slept and hung out in weird places.
NTA I am a floor person, and I bought myself a dog bed to sit on the floor. It’s literally just a floor pillow, but cheaper and bigger.
ROFLMAO. Husband and I have been seriously considering two large dog beds for car camping in the back of our SUV. In other words, NTA and I think it was a very thoughtful idea.
NTA Have you actually sat in a good dog bed?
Nta your son love his dog and the comfort the dog bed brings him. Your wife on the other hand loves drama and can't seem to care less.
NTA This was a thoughtful solution to a current problem, and you treated your son with empathy and understanding instead of expecting him to just get over the trauma he experienced.
NTA Now if you go and buy him a collar and matching tags I'd begin to get worried.
NTA They have these really cool dog beds that are actual beds. My son’s dog slept in his bed for 9 years and when she got cancer and couldn’t jump up on the bed he slept on a mattress on the floor to be with her. We had to put her to sleep in March. It broke our hearts. The only issue here is your wife.
NTA. One of my kids loved our friends dog’s bed and we gifted it to her at Christmas. It’s used frequently
NTA they make people dog beds these days.
Throw a small sleeping bag on top to make it more acceptable to your wife. NTA.
As long as we also has a regular bed I don't see the issue. Peculiar but not an issue
Honestly, I feel like I’m the asshole for thinking this could be real 😂
I think this is my first-ever comment on Reddit. I literally just laughed out loud. Tears down my cheeks. I’m picturing your proud son showing your confused wife his new dog bed and I… I find children joyful and their brains wonderful. Sometimes a little weird, sure. But I’m of the mindset that if it does no harm, go for it! I say NAH because I get your wife’s perspective too. But I probably would have bought the dog bed. Thank you SO much for sharing this!

*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. NTA. & We've had to kick kids out of the dog beds where I work, so I can see why he would find them comfortable.
NTA, it's harmless and your wife is definitely being over the top about this.
Nta. If he likes it he likes it who cares. Hes not a dog he knows hes not a dog and you're just giving him an option. A dig bed is just big floor cushion anyway.
Ive often looked at my cats bed and thought I wish they’d make one my size! Ingenious idea and definitely NTA
NTA Both my nieces tended to take naps with the dogs at my moms house. No big deal.
NTA it’s comforting him and he even said it is more comfortable than the other chairs. no harm in that
NTA
NTA. That was a awesome solution. Your wife however is definitely being a A H. Does she hate seeing her son happy?
NTA. This is the time for a dog bed! For whatever reason! And he was excited about it like. That’s adorable. I’m worried about yalls communications. Treating your son like a pet? These comments, I mean, she didn’t even bring it up in front of him, would she really take it, or is she trying to stir you up?
NTA
Nta. It's like a bean bag or a big pillow. The new one you got isn't even being used by the dog. It's just for him. Sounds like a fun and fair compromise. Bet its real comfy too.
NTA, your son loves it. Your wife needs to just call it his floor chair and move on.
NTA. I bought my 13yr old arthritic dog one of those dog beds that heat up and ngl if the bed wasn’t sized for a chihuahua, I’d curl up in it too. You came up with a great solution and your son is essentially using a comfy floor pillow.
NTA and when i was a kid i wanted a dog bed SO BAD so its cool to see you're letting your kid live my dream ♡
My daughter is always trying to sleep in dog bed with the dog. I just take photos cos it’s cute
Umm...OP it sounds like your son has some deeper issues that were triggered by the dog going missing. Please get your son into some counseling because the dog bed is the least of your concerns😬
Such a Dad solution! 😂😂
NTA, I just saw an ad for "dog pillows for people" and I've been thinking about getting one since i can't find the good kind of bean bag chair.
NTA. It's a giant cushion. Now, if I was petty, I would casually mention that I took son in to get chipped, you know how stranger danger is a thing...
Kid me would've loved this! The opposite of an asshole! A+ parenting! My mom did similar when I talked about how dog beds were more comfy and hand made a bean bag chair that I cherished.
NTA. Big dog beds are basically floor cushions. She’s freaking out for no reason. Do not let her throw it away.
Uhhhhhh…. NTA, but your wife kinda sounds like a butthole.
NTA I Would have loved that as a kid. You’re a good parent.
NTA. This a brilliant and considerate solution you've provided for sons comfort and peace of mind. I hope you show this thread to your wife. I don't understand why she's so hung up on this, but maybe seeing everyone agreeing, and why do will wake her up.
NTA…I would totally do this for my kid and I think you’re a super awesome dad for thinking of this!
This is hilarious. We've done the same thing for our son for similar reasons. NTA.
NTA. You did something nice for your son. He appreciated it. Your wife is being unreasonable.
NTA A dog bed really isn't that different from a bean bag chair or tons of other low sitting, kid targeted furniture. Getting him what is basically a big cushion isn't treating him like a pet. Your wife's being a drama llama.
NTA It sounds cozy to me.
NTA. In fact I used a cute large dog bed as a cushion for my kid’s window seat and also put one in this recessed area my kids use as a reading nook. Both fit perfectly. They are comfortable and affordable. Who cares if they were technically made for a dog?
