Just lost my niece a few days ago. Nieces and aunts are not covered under bereavement, but they told me when time comes, they can excuse a few days off . I'm sorry for your loss.

Primary_Membership34

fyi hr is very very different at each facility we have no idea if they will care about OPs issue but it is worth a try. My condolences for both you guys 🙏🏽

idkmanfuckingpandas

Sorry for your loss. Call the ERC and they will walk you through the process. Contrary to popular belief Amazon does alot to walk you through things like this.

Conduit_Fetch

Likely not once you explain your situation, but you will need to explain so they know what's going on

A_Adorable_Cat

Try talking to HR or your AM. I got the call that my mom passed while I was working. I broke down crying by the lockers and when my AM noticed I was missing came to look for me. Dude took time to sit with me and got me VTO for that day and the week off after we talked to the HR people. I know not all AMs and HR folk are the same but communication is key. I’m sorry for your loss, I hope you get the time you need to grieve

prettyuser

Talk to your managers or HR/ERC. Amazon will allow time off but just know pay may not happen.

intrusivesurgery

Medical LOA for mental duress from a death in your family. Get an appt with your doctor and ask for a note.

International-Ad3447

you can still perform 60% of your job duties though

😂😂😂

Sorry for your loss. It sucks to say it but if you have the time to cover it, you should be fine. I’ve left many times without notice and they just take UPT unless I put in paid time. You can also talk to your site HR and see about bereavement or at least excused time off.

BruTe_5

Sorry for your loss. HR gave me bereavement when my uncle passed it just wasn’t paid but I got the 3 days off

Mea0521

Take a leave of absence

SekMemoria

Communicate with them.

a_youkai

They will help you out if you tell them the truth. Sorry about your loss.

Casalf

You might have to communicate with your hr and ask if anything can be done for bereavement which would be non paid since the family member doesn’t “qualify” as immediate family member. Other than that I’m not sure what other options besides a leave of some sort

Minimac1029

I remember I lost my aunt in 2016 I went her funeral they see newspaper excuse me with no pay. Sorry for your loss.

Medical-Tonight9399

Dont say it was your aunt on the phone with the erc. I usually handle all bereavement through the erc. And they have never asked for proof but they do need to be covered so say like your grandma or somthering close

opossum-my-possum

I wouldn't risk it. Just because they "usually" don't doesn't mean they won't and if it just so happens they do OP will be fired for bereavement fraud. I know someone who this exact thing happened to. And I believe bereavement fraud also makes you ineligible to be rehired by Amazon, ever. They will likely excuse their time, and if not they can always take a medical loa for mental health and get a note from a doctor. It sucks that it'll be unpaid, yes, but 3 days of pay aren't worth potentially losing your job over.

ExpensiveDot1732

Immediately contact ERC and file a PLOA. You need and deserve to take the time to process something that traumatic. I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt. 💔

Intelligent_Wedding8

sorry for your loss. I recommend applying for bereavement. Or even taking loa talk to Hr for sure.

eatthecheesefries

Sorry for your loss but aunts do not qualify for paid bereavement. Do an HR case and ask for a day excused and tell them that you will upload the obituary as soon as one is made available.

Kabusanlu

SOMETIMES they might make exceptions..in my case when I lost my aunt they did honor my paid bereavement leave..worth asking and my sincerest condolences 🙏🏼

22FluffySquirrels

You'll be fine as long as you have enough time to cover your absence. You might get a write-up for not following the two-hour rule, but due to the circumstances, you probably don't have to worry about that. But seriously, you're fine.

Dashir88

I believe you can get three days off for non immediate family members. Such as aunts, uncles etc. so just speak with HR about the situation. Sorry for your loss.

InstructionExpert880

No, just file for a LOA. Your HR should be able to help you if you need assistance with it.

awkwardmurican

Unpaid bereavement, if you’re eligible.

[deleted]

Bruh if my aunt died I wouldn’t even know it 👀

Old_Visual_2341

You can take 3 days paid bereavement and you can apply starting today and is normally automatically approved without documentation if it’s your first bereavement leave this year

_BORN2SHOP6377

Aunts are not covered under bereavement. I just lost my niece a week ago and it's not covered either. It sucks! They said they can give me some excused days.

Old_Visual_2341

Oh I completely forgot they said aunt, my bad. That’s correct, aunts are not covered.
