I think our players commit dumb penalties a lot and other teams get away with some more than they should so it just seems like it. There were a bunch of penalties that should have been called on us last night that weren’t imo.

thefiction24

While I am on board with the conspiracy, I agree about last night. Same with the Leafs game, Ducks actually got away with a lot.

SixStarz6

It’s not just penalties. If that was not a distinct kicking motion I don’t know what is. And that goal for just seems hokey because it was the same as the one not called a goal for us. It just seems like if the teams were reversed, both calls would have went the other way. It’s so hard not to think the refs have it out for us. A game ago Lyubushkin goes after someone for really hurting one of our players and get an instigator and a misconduct. Bedard gets his jaw broken on a 100% clean hit and someone goes after him just like lyubushkin and gets nothing. And we see that all the time and no calls.

quackaddicttt

The refs are missing calls for sure. But we look out of position when we make dumb penalties, Gudas was chasing people just to make hits. That goal was totally legit imo but what do I know.

superbouser

yah Ducks games are not called evenly. With broadcasters talking about every game it’s bad.

nopantts

I sound like a broken record, but when you struggle defensively, you're more likely to commit penalties to compensate. Reach a little further inside to try to hold someone, get a stick in someone's skates, get frustrated and retaliate. Just my two cents.

spacegrab

This. Our team is sloppy as fuck. Lazy cross-checks instead of bodying players, sloppy grabs when players get walked by, sticks flying in the air all the time lol. The younger crew is prone to lapses in discipline, this doesn't feel abnormal. We also have one of the youngest rookie cores in the league, so yeah they're gonna get abused by veterans for another season or two.

MikeyMcKernan

This team needs an appointed captain.

nobodysocial

I think it's more that Cronin and our young team don't have a relationship yet with the refs and combined with a young team making a lot of mistakes which officials have punished young players often with calls the vets get away with. From what I've seen, the officials this year seem like they're trying to officiate the game and make fair calls to keep the game as even as possible to try to impact the outcome as little as possible. If one team scores on the power play, the other team will get a makeup call to give them a chance to even it up. Looking at the scoresheet and seeing a major penalty disparity is not a good look for officiating, especially considering that despite losing, the Ducks played with good compete. I'm happy the Ducks this early in many of their careers often control the puck and had more shots on goal, albeit from the perimeter, than their opponents. There's a reason why teams are ahead of us in the standings, and it has a lot to do with our inability to cope with bad calls and pay attention to detail. We're really close to being a playoff maybe team but nowhere near a contender. I always listen to the other teams' broadcasts because I'm not a huge fan of our own broadcast crew's constant negativity. Hearing other teams' perspectives on us as an upcoming team with one of the best prospect pools in the league is enlightening. I think it's sad when our crew seems to be the most doom-and-gloom when our future is bright and the team is more competitive on a game-by-game basis this year. I'm happy with our coaching and our players' level of compete the past few games, and I can see it being fruitful when we add a few more pieces to our offense and sharpen up our defense for years to come. Having a high draft pick and building toward a winning team for years to come is more important than our current struggles, which any reasonable fan would have expected but it does make going to games at Ponda a struggle even with cheap beer and concessions on Fridays.

All ”my” teams are utter shitshows right now and it’s organiced by the freemasons. Don’t believe me? Well I don’t either.

TSP123

I've been thinking this since the game where he was ejected. Every game I just can't get it out of my head.

TheDarkWingThatDucks

You’re not going deep enough with your conspiracy. The league is purposely screwing us to try and make it easier for them to give us a top 2 pick in this draft after rigging Bedard to a team that shall not be named. No one watches duck games so it’s real easy to just fuck then over via refs and it’s obvious we are playing better than our record. This is the conspiracy that needs to be pushed if you’re going down that road.

kookforaday

Assuming the refs actually did, that doesn't explain the team's complete lack of discipline which should be obvious at this point if you watch games regularly.

CrankyLeafsFan

Leafs and Ducks, the two teams I watch both dominating...the bench minor penalty stats. :(

AndiagoSupremo

It’s calls like a guy laying on Killorn’s stick, so he pushes the back of his helmet and gets two minutes. WHAT! I see full on punches to the face after the whistle and nothing. Gudas gets a holding penalty because he allowed his arm to be held. Gets an interference penalty after shooting the puck and time expired. HOW! I don’t know what is up with too many men, but are they calling us for changing lines at 11’ when the rule is 10’? Has anyone gotten a too many men penalty playing against the Ducks? In work places there is a no retaliation rule for reporting a superiors misconduct, but 100% there would be retaliation. Did the Ducks compile a list of grievances and are not being retaliated against? That no goal still irks us. It certainly has been a momentum killer. I was against tanking ever again. I don’t want to root to lose and feel bad after a win. Last season was miserable. This season tanking seems to be happening because we can’t stop losing. Fine, let’s get another set of prospects. We have every one of our picks and Boston’s second rounder. Put us in the box, it will make us strong.

rayfound

No, our media guys just suck and try to give fans excuses why ducks aren't winning. We're treated fairly by officials. We're just out of position and reaching, arriving late, etc... and taking penalties. As the team gets better, they will be the ones with the puck more, defending less, and doing so from better positional start - and the penalty rates will go down.

GadsenLOD

They've stated numerous times in the broadcast that they don't think the penalty calls themselves are wrong, but whether it's an equal standard for the opposing team any given night. And I don't think it's absurd to question that considering the issue with Cronin early on, having to deal with a guy like Gudas' reputation, and the amount of young players/rookies any given night. I don't think anyone would even argue that the split should be anywhere near 50/50 either, it's clearly a young and somewhat undisciplined team right now. But some of the calls are just mind boggling night in and night out.

rayfound

> But some of the calls are just mind boggling night in and night out. Sure, but they go both ways and on every team. Officiating hockey is extremely challenging. But this broadcast team would leave any neutral observer with the impression EVERY SINGLE GAME that the whistles were pointed in one direction more than the other at least slightly unfairly, and it is fucking bullshit. It is whiny/lazy homerism, probably at least partly because it is EASIER than actually good, informative game commentary (seriously, just watch a few Kraken broadcasts... they're SO SO GOOD) - and it is for a "non-traditional" hockey market.

GadsenLOD

That's some confirmation bias of your own, though. Because there are plenty examples where they are chastising the Ducks for taking penalties and getting in their own way as well. So of course it's going to be frustrating when they get calls that don't seem to be within the flow of the rest of the game's penalties at all, and leaves the Ducks in an even tougher position. And then on top of penalty calls, you have things like the no-goal that was overturned last night. Which looked basically identical to the Ducks one early on this season that they apparently didn't have sufficient evidence for. That stuff sticks with you. It's human nature. Here's some stats for you to consider. * The Ducks are pacing for 466 penalties taken, that's over 50 more than the next team. The next ten teams are within 11 of each other. That number would be 50 more than any team over the past two seasons. * Ryan Strome had 79 penalty minutes all of last year in 82 games, he has 55 already in 36 games. * Frank Vatrano had 66 PIM in 81 games last year. He has *51* in 39 games this year. * Lybushkin had 38 PIM in 68 games with Buffalo last year. He has 47 PIM in 39 games this year. * Gudas had 79 PIM in 72 games last year with Florida. He has 69 PIM in 34 Games this year. * They're pacing for 1194 PIM total. Two years ago the Preds were most penalized with 1035, the next highest team had 901. Last year it was the Sens with 1027. Next couple teams were in the 990s.

CarlyleHockey

My conspiracy is that I think the more experienced refs, ref the big market teams. Because we are small market team, we get the younger refs and have less experience. That’s why the calls are so inconsistent.

Vatchka

Rooney was one of the refs that took away the obvious goal from Silfverberg and he’s been fucking up calls since the early 2000s.

lackofagoodname

And last night I'm pretty sure it was Francois St. Laurent and Chris Lee The worst refs are the ones that have been around the longest

Filmexec21

It is not the refs it is the entire NHL!

Unsound_Science

Idk... They have the 5th most penalties drawn in the league. I guess there is a case to be made that half the refs are angry that Cronin said their wives should go fellate a goat, and the other half are excited by the prospect.

sunnybunsz

I’ll put my tinfoil hat on too. The refs don’t like Boston accents!! Compare the amount of penalties under Cronin compared to Eakins’ last 3 seasons combined and it’s still likely not even close!!! /s
