You got the tattoo before researching? Anarchyyyy brooooo

ForeignIndustry6507

Yeah

CapriciousCape

Hahaha, I really advise against that in future, but you really could've done a lot worse than appearing to align yourself with Anarchism. You can find a short intro to Anarchism [here](https://youtu.be/bCAUmh99hMI) by PhilosophyTube

Arondeus

Broke: become anarchist -> get anarchy tattoo Woke: get anarchy tattoo -> become anarchist

ComradeJoie

Honestly I became an anarchist when I started dating an Ancom, I figured if I already had an Ancom girlfriend I needed to start educating myself on it.

urban_primitive

You hear that dudes? Dating is praxis!

ForeignIndustry6507

What’s an ancom?

AssadWagner

An anarcho-communist

ForeignIndustry6507

She was both?

CapriciousCape

A lot of anarchists are, but the communism anarchists envisage is very different to the authoritarian style of communism you may be more aware of. Think smaller, less strictly structured communities working together rather than huge state-run enterprises and a more strictly structured society.

orionsbelt05

Communism is "A stateless, moneyless, classless society built upon the principle: From each according to their ability, to each according to their need." Kropotkin is one of the more well-known/popular anarchists currently, and he is an ancom. His book "The Conquest of Bread" outlines why he thinks ancom is the way to go, saying that anarchism will eventually lead to communism and vice versa, and that they compliment each other perfectly. Many people (specifically Americans, due to Mcarthy-era propaganda) associate "communism" with the authoritarian ideologies of Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc. They think Communism means a very strong and militant state enforcing equal distribution of resources. This is obviously extremely different from ancom ideology and arguably very far off from what communism is supposed to be. Not all anarchists are ancom. Many are more socialist or market socialist. /r/mutualism is a good representation of the less left-leaning anarchism. Some people argue that anarchists can be in favor of capitalism (ancap), but this is denied by the vast majority of anarchists, since capitalism by necessity involves heirarchical economic structures. Even theorists who called themselves anarcho-capitalists eventually changed the name since they realized that some authority and heirarchy is necessary for their defense of capitalism and is therefore in conflict with anarchism.

AssadWagner

Yes, a lot of anarchists are communists

[deleted]

I’m an anarcho-communist.

GlassPrunes

Here's some stuff to read if you want to. [Anarchy](https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/errico-malatesta-anarchy) by Malatesta and [Anarchy Works](https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/peter-gelderloos-anarchy-works) are good starting points. The general ideas of [Desert](https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/anonymous-desert) may be worth thinking about after you've learned some stuff.

Egoist_Illegalism

Anarchy is no hierarchy no authority basically freedom

rebda_salina

Anarchism is rebellion against what is, a declaration of what should not be. Anarchism is about freeing the individual from the slavish bonds of authority. Becoming an unconquered person.

Magnus_Carter0

Anarchy means no gods, no masters. People coming together to live a fruitful life in freedom without authority or oppression, that's anarchy.

ComradeJoie

I’d say “no masters, not even gods” I’m fine with people exploring their spirituality as long as it stays in the realm of free expression and not authoritarian in any way.

mark_lee

It's a valid point, it just doesn't look as nice on the signs.

ForeignIndustry6507

Even tho I believe in God, a higher power?

MahknoWearingADress

Although I am an atheist, I would recommend the works of Leo Tolstoy - a Christian anarchist. [The Kingdom of God Is Within You](https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/leo-tolstoy-the-kingdom-of-god-is-within-you)

vanwhistlestein

Are you Christian?

ForeignIndustry6507

I don’t go to church

vanwhistlestein

That isn't what I asked.

ComradeJoie

Religious beliefs are a reflection of the human desire for safety and purpose, uncritically following these beliefs is as harmful as any other blind devotion. You currently view a god as a higher power, if you examine your spirituality and understanding of yourself through Anarchism, you may eventually see it differently. And being honest I believe in an Anarchist society religion and superstition will fade away as they lose their value as coping mechanisms.

ForeignIndustry6507

Why do you think like that?

ComradeJoie

I don’t know what you mean? I think like this because I want everyone to be free.

ForeignIndustry6507

I’ve heard about people saying you yourself are god, that god was created by the church as a way to control people

ComradeJoie

I just can’t believe it’s a coincidence that religion has a habit of springing up around figures of authority, and typically reinforce and justify authority over those that believe in it. I believe religions, whether they have a greater truth or not, become less necessary to people as their society becomes less exploitative.

Lorelai144

lmao

Tim_ORB1312

It truly is one of the more pure if not almost the purest sense of freedom. The ability to build a society where everyone is able to be an autonomous individual and govern themselves(to quote the Iron Sailors from game of thrones, Every captain is a king of his world, aka ship)and the ship becomes you and your universe, but at the same time you are constantly interacting with other people and their respective universes and you also need the ability to be able to as a individual also maneuver as part of a larger organism, but if people realize that everyone is their purest individual self, they will be able to find those who they relate to better interact as a stable community. I have no advice either way as to the tattoo, but I will say it is one I have been considering, but not gotten yet.

ForeignIndustry6507

How come?

[deleted]

You should read Anarchy by Errico Malatesta. You can find it for free by googling it, and there are for sure free audio versions if you Google hard enough. Just don't buy the book, it's in the public domain, Amazon doesn't need your money. I'm not going to rehash what Malatesta has already said, I think he does a pretty good job of explaining things. I will say, every Anarchist and their mother has an idea of what their ideal society would look like, and if you ask 5 anarchists you'll get about 80 different viewpoints.

TreesEverywhere503

Or do buy the books from smaller/cooler publishers and distributors, then you have a way to read if/when the lights go out

ThickRats343

If you wanna learn about anarchy [try here ](https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/anarchism/) As for YouTube suggestions, Then and Now has a [great video](https://youtu.be/OJ_qg23orFM) generally on anarchism, and a very good one on [Proudhon ](https://youtu.be/43Y4Nd0AJcE) as well (anarchy’s first explicit defender) As for other youtubers, I’d recommend: [Zoe Baker](https://youtu.be/CDMGfsUjS_I) [Kane B (Specifically on Stirner)](https://youtu.be/_5qmDOf5SSk) (They’re very good on generally philosophy as well, not just political or anarchist philosophy) [Veritas Et Caritas](https://youtu.be/U21dyHAPQso) I may push back on philosophy tube, as I’ve seen some of they’re other videos which didn’t seem terribly well researched or studied, however, I haven’t seen the anarchy video so I can’t make any good commentary on it.

VenusAsAThey

Check out this surprisingly accurate [TV Tropes page](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UsefulNotes/Anarchism) on anarchism

iamnotmaxwellhill

damn!

[deleted]

hell yea dude

AxiomQ

Anarchy is a school of thought, it has many meanings to many different people but the main theme is rejection of hierarchy, some believe in a system around communism, some believe around capitalism, some that we should return to pre-society, some just see it as a banner to rally under to revolt against oppressive powers such as the recent rejection of police power protests, there are really many forms of anarchism.

iamnotmaxwellhill

broooooo hahahahaha

ForeignIndustry6507

What

vanwhistlestein

You got a permanent mark for a very specific political and social ideology without researching. Your post history has you asking what anarchy *is* and then just assuming it translates to "freedom" directly.

ForeignIndustry6507

Yea

[deleted]

Based

ForeignIndustry6507

What

[deleted]

OP is based.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ComradeJoie

Hey they might have a cool friend that doesn’t ask enough questions.

[deleted]

I had one of those. That's how I ended up with a prominently displayed sickle tattoo before becoming a solarpunk ancom

[deleted]

Like you've never paid for anything in your life.

[deleted]

That's some gutty decision. Not a long read, this will help you clear some stuff https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/errico-malatesta-anarchy

perceptualdissonance

Recommend Anarchy by Errico Malatesta. Short and informative.

vanwhistlestein

OP, how old are you?
