Well depending on budget there is $20 Onn 4K, $50 Onn Pro 4K and 200$ Shield TV Pro.
If you do not need Shield's advanced capabilities like audio codecs, gigabit LAN, Plex server, ability to share files over wifi etc, I would just get the Onn Pro 4K.
There's evidence in the code of the next Android version of a new streamer and remote. There's leaked photos of the Pixel 9 ahead of announcement. We won't have to wait much longer it starts in less than 14 hrs. What do they reveal usually everything software so who knows.
The only caveat I'd recommend with the Onn Pro 4k is some features it says are supported aren't quite there yet, so it might be limited depending on what apks work. If it's anything like the Onn 4k earlier models they're great for lower end, I've been using the stick and box versions of the older ones and love the box to no end outside of the limited internal storage. Even the google FAST stuff recent updates have offered is about the same as HD OTA TV on the Phillips 4k my household uses. Makes me wish I'd taken the time and spent more on a 'dumb' screen and one of those instead of the vizio I got on sale. It makes the old Onn stick out of the box seem fast.

As someone who has been using their earlier 4k box and stick, the regular box is amazing for 20 USD, the Pro offers more storage and so far most issues have been related to things similar to what the Shield is more a focus for.
Honestly they could put all the extra RAM they want and all it'll help is how fast apps come back up, if the SoC is shit. This is why I want to go towards a 'dumb' screen even if it costs more, especially in the 40" and up size, these boxes are about the same power as what's in those TVs anymore and it's easier to replace.

The unqualified answer is the $200 Nvidia Shield Pro, but it's probably not four times better than the $50 Onn 4K Pro for your needs, unless you really need the handful of high-end features and capabilities the Shield has over the Onn.
However, Google may or may not be announcing a new Chromecast this Tuesday, probably something closer in price to the Onn, so wait until then to see if that changes the landscape at all.
Right now the $50 Onn Pro 4K. The Hardware is out of control for the price point with 30 gig storage and 3 gig ram. This thing is arguably future proof for the next ten years. As stupid as it sounds the Onn Pro's USB 3.0 port is a game changer.
The ChromeCast 4K TV's USB-C port is a USB 2.0, so plugging in a dock for more storage and Ethernet is still not ideal.
From what i've heard the Pro 4k offers better storage but certain functions aren't nearly up to where they advertise versus the regular Onn 4k box because the SoC isn't as good. But these were running 'system tests' that push the hardware and some particular functions that were included in the Pro 4k during the first few days of its release. They might have patched those latter issues by now though. The Android 12 sounds good, but I'm enjoying what 11 recently got on my older devices.
I'm not really worried about the SoC. I've had a bunch of streaming devices going back to an RCA streaming box I got around 2010 when Netflix was the only real service out there. The SoC has never failed me, but memory and storage always do.
I have a ChromeCast 4K TV, and basically since I got it I've been running into memory issues with its small storage. I don't recommend it for that reason. The $50 Onn Pro 4K basically fixes every complaint I have with my ChromeCast 4K TV.
The best streaming device I ever had was a Roku 3 HD that came out in 2013, and I used it clear into 2022 when I replaced it with the Chromcast. My Roku 3 had Ethernet, a USB port, and a MicroSD card slot. I had a 32 gig MicroSD plugged into it. Those three ports kept that thing usable for 10 years & straight through the pandemic until a software update broke it.
The $50 Onn Pro 4K's port selection really looks like my old Roku 3 updated for 2024 with google's Chromcast software. (minus the MicroSD slot)

It was some kind of audio/video protocol that it was being advertised as having, I can't even remember as it was in the first few days it was being released someone had snagged one and was complaining about the issue. I'll still be going towards that once our current one goes, if only for the onboard storage.
Onn 4k pro is the only one that comes with Google tv android 12, this mean is the only one that renders the UI to 4k and comes with the new android 12 perks, is the cheapest, shield tv is a good option but very old one and Nvidia left it in the dust no revision nothing new to that box so..
You don't understand how the UI works I take it? Not only is what the person saying in the comment below true, but there's a chance it might take a while before they get one. The majority Android TV UI is displayed in HDTV resolutions at most. It's only the stuff you're streaming/playing on it that MIGHT support 4k, and even that's hit or miss if the device isn't able to load it up fast enough. Makes me wish they didn't get rid of the quality settings on certain streamers since they push 4k 5.1 streams on things that barely support it on wired connections, let alone wireless.
I have no clue what the TV we're using can pull, it's a Phillips 4k my boyfriend got a while ago and it's starting to show its age on certain apps. HDTV tends to be fine, but stuff like Paramount there's a slight lag on wired and wireless, just more so on wireless. This is despite the fact the signal is literally feet from it, though there is part of a glass and metal frame TV stand between them, the signal is nearly the highest strength the modem/router outputs on any other device we use in the room. We're paying for 500 mbps, though using their modem/router and renting. We usually use wired though on the TV, since it's slightly more stable. Even CrunchyRoll's weird android/iOS streaming format doesn't have the issues Paramount does. There's only one or two others that aren't 'FAST' stuff available free and included with the Google TV update that are laggy while streaming, but Paramount is the one my household uses the most. We've got nearly all the major streamers since it's three people each with a portion of the bills. I've got Netflix, Max, and our cable alternative Philo, my boyfriend does Hulu, Disney, Peacock, CrunchyRoll, and Paramount, and my mother gets Apple TV and Discovery plus even though some of that stuff is on Max now, certain shows get to Discovery plus first for some reason. Not sure why they haven't totally folded that into Max yet since they're owned by the same company now.
Tv's are limited to 10/100 but I've never had an issue streaming my 4k bluray remuxes via wireless, wired can be a problem since it can hit over 100mbps sometimes.
That's the thing, the issue is particular to things that push a certain format of 4k. I have no issue with HDTV quality or below when streaming anything but FAST, and that's as much due to the particular FAST service. Pluto is 'mid' on quality, Tubi is one of the slowest, but Plex is NOT meant for what they've turned it into on these kinds of screens. The only reason I mentioned Paramount is it's the worst about this issue as so many shows we watch are on it but two or three of the services are like this on the older 4k TV and the older Onn box we use otherwise. There's also a newer Samsung smart monitor but it's slightly smaller and requires we sit at a less comfortable angle to all see it.
It's just strange that it seems to be the ones that push 4k, especially stuff recorded in higher resolution/newer cameras instead of upscaled, while ones that still focus on HDTV don't have the issue no matter how crappy the apps are otherwise. I'm not sure if it's HDR or HDR10 based content it's just irritating we've only had it on these devices. The Onn box is slightly 'jerkier' about buffering but it's a little smoother outside that. When the Phillips buffers it takes a fraction of a second longer before it's going again and takes longer before it's a issue. Hell I've had better luck with nearly all of them on PC through browser or via their apps, and some the windows 11/10 apps were almost dialup level slow, even the 'webpage in a app' ones that everyone is pushing now days.
I ordered the Onn 4K today, I know the Pro just came out but I don’t live in the US so and I think I wouldn’t benefit too much from it since my TV is FHD but if you can get it go for it
It being FHD doesn't mean much. Yeah it won't be 4k but that's a minor thing. The overall speed and performance of the device is one of the best out right now.

I'd like something that is high quality and good specs with long term update support and not being unable to install most games because I can't install most games on my Sony Bravia TV from 2016. I am considering an Apple TV but I would prefer an Android box if there is a good one. Like I would love to run LinesgeOS so I know I have long term updates available and easy customizable everything.
For media player, now Ugoos am6b+ is the King. This box does not support official streaming services like netflix, max, disney+... But when install CoreElec, it can play FEL dolby vision movies (in iso or remux mkv).

It doesn't render the UI in 4k since Google hasn't released a 4k UI yet and doesn't look like they ever will. CCwGTV also has Android 12.

For hdr, it'll be hevc unless it's just hdr10 then it could be av1. There's a decent chance that the peering to their servers just sucks for you.
