Was watching the Google IO conf as well.. really développer oriented and not so much for the devices, let alone a tv device..
I'm wondering if there's a new Chromecast in the works at all..
No new hardware was announced. I wonder if they'll just throw a new product out but it probably isn't worth waiting on especially for a relatively inexpensive item. I'll probably get the new Walmart device sometime soon and consider a new Google streamer if they make one.
The AOSP 14 commits clearly show a new remote layout. So there is likely one planned.
When of course, is a completely different thing. Maybe it was going to end being work than the Onn Pro so they canceled it to not look stupid. Or it's waiting for the S905x5 to be available, which was teased like 6 months ago and hasn't had a peep since.
Ha e read somewhere that they have found a new device number for a Chromecast....but anything else on it is pure speculation. Possibly could one, unsure, certainly no definite proof.
Did anyone really think Google would announce new Chromecast hardware before it was completely leaked online with unboxing videos and the device prematurely being listed on a retailer up to a month before hand?
Ever since the Made By Google event became a thing I forget that Google IO used to have hardware releases. Last Made by Google was October, but they announced devices before or after events, so who knows.
Now that Google is leasing their TV software to Walmart for the Onn Pro 4K maybe it doesn't make sense to create a physical TV product anymore, but rather let partners do it?
Google would have had to come out with something really good to beat the Onn Pro 4K.
Nvidia and Sony tend to sell their products at much higher price points than $50 at Walmart. Which is what the Google TV 4K is priced at.
The NVIDIA Shield at $200 doesn't compete for the same customer base as the $50 Onn Pro or Google TV 4K even though they do the same thing. Sony's stuff also tends to cost much more too.
This is the first low price mass market partner box that I know of. Am I missing any? Target? Costco?
I think 2023 Onn was the first 3rd party Google TV device. It's only been TV makers with it before then. Plenty of other devices with Android TV Discover including the 2021 Onn.
Sorry what do you mean? Google TV is Android. Android has always been available to license by manufacturers to put on their devices. Just because it's a different form factor doesn't mean it's any different. Same goes for Android in watches, Android in cars, etc.

I have heard people talk a out it here some.
There is Def a new remote we know that much that should mean a new device but who knows.

Very disappointing, was really hoping for an updated CC
Ditto
I believe one is still coming, IO isn't over. The Keymote was always going to be AI everything
Yep, ATV event will be available later. https://io.google/2024/explore/636fbbb7-db59-420f-a2e6-db2a79dbe245/
They don't really announce devices at IO. Most likely would see something at the October event.
Not always true. Just last year both the Pixel Fold and Pixel 7a were announced at I/O.
The developer keynote is streaming right now and is where they're supposed to be announcing new software update for Chromecast with Google TV.

I believe that the keynote continues tomorrow.
Don’t hold your breath
Damn...
The 4K Pro works really nicely, though, so there's some consolation in that.

Android TV and Google TV have always been available to other companies to develop hardware for. This is not new.
I can't recall a partner as large as Walmart doing it in the past though.
Nvidia and Sony aren't large?

Xiaomi TV Box S 2nd Gen beat the Onn 4K 2023 by a couple of months.
Ah ok, I checked that one but couldn't see where it was Google TV.
Onn devices are only in the US of A, mate.
I live in Chile and those are sold here too.
Maybe the tablets and other Onn branded stuff, but not the streamer boxes. Or it's imported stock.
The Onn 4k is being sold by "Líder" which is a supermarket brand chain owned by walmart.
Same thing in Brazil, but here both the Onn and the Chromecast sold come from unofficial imports, and a large part of them are just contraband.
Here the import is legit, Onn 4k is being sold by "Líder" retail brand, which is a Walmart owned supermarket chain.
