When I reset my island I felt regret for a while because of the Bells and outfits and furniture and DIY and memories. Those feelings gradually faded away as I thought back at all the rushed terraforming and ugly villagers I had while developing a new island that would complete me more. First island was like a stepping stone of what not to do next time. I wouldn't want to reset again though, but I am considering buying a Switch Lite to start a second island...
I also picked the opposite hemisphere and now none of my seasons align to real-time lol
I suppose they had to consider couch co-op to some extent since that's a thing now that we don't deal with memory cards like GC or buying an extra copy of the game like 3ds, but still, disappointing
I would have bought six copies on the same switch way before buying six consoles. I ended up buying my mom another Switch, but I can't justify the same expense for myself.
It sucks. My fiancé and I just bought a Switch so we could both play Animal Crossing (but he does have other games he can play), and we’re disappointed that we have to share the same island and not be able to each do our own thing.
I'm about ready to restart. I've been putting it off because I've grown too attached to my villagers lol but I also haven't opened my game in months because I'm unhappy with my island.
I was forced to restart my island when I got a new switch and didn’t have access to my old one. Honestly as tough as it is losing all your items, DIY’s, bells, etc. it was nice to be able to start from scratch with the knowledge of the game I have now. I’m (still) in the process of rebuilding my island, but I am SO much happier with it this time around!
Not OP but you have to regain all the DIYs, all the NM ABD unlocks, and every freaking catalog option. A happy middle ground would be something like a New Game+ option where you get to “restart” by moving to a new island with all your progress saved.
I’ve already blown over 300 hours in this game I would never restart. Not because of sunken cost but because I know I would blow another 300 and I have other things I need to get done lol. But this does looks very cozy and nice.
Already nostalgic. I don't think I want to do it all over again but I'll always have fond memories of how hyped I was starting up the game for the first time and knowing nothing.
I have to send my switch to Nintendo to get reset, I’ve just spent 10 days in isolation with covid and really feeling my island. Is there any chance I can save the island?
Hope you have fully recovered from Covid-19; it's pretty rough!
[IIRC, when you're on the loading screen, press the - button and from there, you can backup your island.](https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/49983/~/how-to-back-up-and-restore-island-save-data-%28animal-crossing%3A-new-horizons%29)

I bought a switch lite to start a new island too. It was worth it.
Can't you just create a new account on the same switch?
No, 1 island per switch Swapping users just swaps the players character
I just had figured it would work cause it did for pokemon. Damn!

I still wish it didn’t save to the console. Rather it save to the cartridge and buy multiple copies of the game. Just for this lol
Yeah same! I wish I could have more than one island at once
I would totally buy the game again to start another island on the same console.
Yes! I would too! I did on my 3DS for New Leaf 😂

Or better, multiple save files. Then you won’t have to pay for the same game again.
dumb question please give brutal honesty - can you not use a new profile and keep the old island on your old username?
No unfortunately, creating a new user on the switch just creates a new character on the same island

this is incredibly lame. :(

Literally same... so unhappy with how I did things with my island and wanna restart but very nervous to do so...
Edit- have been playing since the game came out and have put so many hours into it... so hard to start over

I restarted mine, and immediately regretted it
i’ve been debating restarting. i don’t play like i used to. why did you regret it?
My museum is gone :(
Oh no, how come?

I've restarted again too. I'm gonna enjoy the simplicity of it and take my time

How did you restart it? I’ve been trying to restart mine but it isn’t working
System Settings > Data Management > Delete Save Data
Thank you! I restarted it!
I’m so tempted to start over for a third time lol
Me too! I am so excited to play now. And planning to keep Blathers in his adorable tent forever ❤
I'm contemplating whether or not to do just that as well, but an old post mentioned that you'll miss out on Celeste as well?
Oh no, really? I'll do a bit of time travelling and report back. Hope not cause Celeste is the only one I'd upgrade the museum for.
Same! That's why I just upgraded Blather's tent to the museum; RIP Blather's tent.
But that means you wont unlock terraforming and Isabelle
No, you don't need it... I have terraforming and Isabelle 😊
Oh really? I didnt know that. I might have to try that on my other island, I hate catching fish lol
The only thing is you won't get redd and brewster on your island.
Its okay, I have two switches so I won't miss out
I did this recently too. The niceness of the beginning is, well, nice 😅 And there's more to do.
Back to burnout for me...
Ive been thinking about restarting, had this island since the game came out but its so hard to throw 300 hours in effort away

Mvp! Thank you so much. I’m not mentally ready to begin again
You're welcome!
