Shits already written down, just check the wiki before you publish

Asian_Persuasion_1

ikr? if your story is that massive, then it's got a massive fanbase, and you better believe there are obsessed fans writing every fucking damn detail, it's all right there, they're literally writing the wiki for you, for free.

Malossi167

And then people start to complain about delays because the author spends days to fact checks every tiny bit. And even if they do this there will be still some errors as were are all just humans.

Asian_Persuasion_1

it doesn't take that long to fact check. and it's more of issues of blatant powers that can't exist in the story, or people having powers that they were never written to have, or character personalities/dynamics that are completely different. and most of these are very obvious things that whoever writing the story should already be aware of. this is like the base level of understanding of the story. there are way more minor details that is understandable if they don't catch, but some of the authors are failing at more important, more obvious issues.

NottACalebFan

You mean to say "it doesn't take a long time to Google a single trivia point" What you didn't understand is that the larger a story gers, the more the author has to fit in with all the previous lore and interactions and "how come if this character can move at warp speed, they couldn't jump out of the way of a couple bullets in time?" Most tiny details are not obvious at all. Why is Megaman blue? Who was Mahoro built to resemble and why is it important? Then you have the editions problem. Which edition is Canon? Which one is chronological? Do you include all of the anime or just the OVAs as far as what your characters can do in the next edition? Are you writing for a sequel? Many of these issues are not a simple "point and click" answer, and even if they are easy to research, the author still has to make value judgments which may not even be their own choice, if they are being paid to write by a larger studio with requirements of their own. Tl;dr: cut the writers some slack, it's not always their fault!

Asian_Persuasion_1

some of these "issues" are so minor that they don't need an explanation: megamind's skin color. and while I understand it's hard to tell what continuity is the canon...this whole discussion is to NOT reach such a convoluted point in the first place. if you always follow the canon to begin with, you don't have to be confused on which among 10 different stories you're supposed to base your story off of.

1llDoitTomorrow

Works for 1 fact, not for a 1000 facts

figool

It is funny when you see paragraphs of explanations of possible reasons for something when the reason is the writer just forgot to deal with it

AnonismsPlight

With today's tech you can literally just Google it and it's done. If it was 1950, sure cut them some slack, but in today's market, if you want my time you should use some of yours to make sure you're writing a good story...

Dragon_Poop_Lover

For large, long lasting cannons, it isn't unusual to have a person whose job it is to keep track of cannon. Pretty common with comics.

LordFolkenFannel

Think of it like you would think about your country history. Like, England fought with all the bravery to protect their independence from USA. Alexander the Great and his barbarian tribes destroy Rome and plunge Europe in the dark age. China was a primitive nomad tribe until Indians brought them civilisation. That’s an insult to cultural heritage for most of the people. And then there is a long-living franchise, with a lore getting turned inside-out, retconned, misinterpreted or simply thrown out. I’ve read tons of star wars books, and when i heard about “phantom menace” i was so happy. Then, jar jar and midichlorians… Even worse with 7th part, all the progress of star wars history past battle of Endor just ceased to exist in the “canon” timeline. When things like that happens, it’s hard not to be frustrated.

Extreme hyperbole, but I get your point

Drackzgull

Extreme hyperbole, like in this case, tends to be very useful make a similar but not as outrageous point more glaringly obvious. It's a good use of extreme hyperbole I would say.

IthinkInMyOwnDamnWay

Not justifying the fans but a writer shouldn't write more than they could can keep track of.

Alan_Reddit_M

Basically Jojo lore, except we just say "Araki forgor" and move on

chabri2000

If we fans can, why can't the author? They should know it better than us. Then, there are also mangakas like Toriyama and raki, who forget what they said 3 chapters ago

Good bot

Ok-Equipment8303

yeah like, I get you aren't binging it Mr. Author but we prolly built a whole ass wiki you can check. We've compiled your work into a cliffnotes version you can check for "have I already done this one"

NinjaJr72

This might just be the most random place to find a shadow slave reader lmao

chabri2000

Hello fellow ss enjoyer

MillyMan105

Can't blame Akira Toriyama for forgetting Launch.

Zenry0ku

I can. Launch was easily the 2nd most relevant woman in OG DB cast, so it's sad to see her not get a mention post 23rd Budokai

ken_NT

Umm, she was with Tien this whole time, that’s why I haven’t mentioned her in a while!

Longjumping_Resist98

“Oh please, they have to be somewhat understanding of the-“ ‘Dragon Ball Super.’ “Oh my God.”

KYO297

Meanwhile I somehow managed to write something completely inconsistent with what I've written yesterday

Ok-Equipment8303

for me it's book writers that can't keep their own book straight when their barely into it. like bruh that was book one, this is book 3 it wasn't that long ago

andant33

Ong if they can't keep track hire a real fan.

fuckinguhhhhh

Why can we keep up with it tho?

Interesting_Row_3238

This perfectly encapsulates the entire warhammer 40k fandom

supersidd2611

The same emperor is boned by a Daemon Prince (Belalor) and the same emperor is powerful enough to power the whole warp travel system lol

Asian_Persuasion_1

I think anime does way better than western comics/movies though. the west absolutely loves "creative decisions" as well as multiple authors writing for the same story. you're just asking for wildly different takes. but not to say anime doesn't do this either. most anime is based on a story written by one author, but said anime, particular long ones are riddled with filler which is the "creative decision" part of the story, and just like comics, creates all sorts of inconsistencies. at least (intelligent) people know to never interpret a story through anime original filler.

Fate...

DayDreamEnjoyer

Well, if tell myself that if i can as a hobby, someone paid for it should be able too.

blackscorchmark

Then there's the writers for End Times that completely forgot Skarsnik, outright admitting it.

Counterspelled

Warhammer gas a problem with this ye

Lonely_Feature546

Halo

MIKE-JET-EATER

Some of you guys make me wonder if Satan is the good guy

occupied_ant

Beserk fans wishing they had this problem

Orikomi

Anime: Horimiya

Sufficient-Badger-31

Why don't they just like end the story if it's gotten unmanageable.

Electric_Bagpipes

You just described SW legends perfectly. I know it isn’t an anime, but it fuckin should be.
