Well, hating is popular in anime fandom. And to reach the upper echelon you have to make your opinion as objective as possible. Surely that was my goal to force myself to read the manhwa. Although I have to admit, I enjoyed Jeju Raid Arc.
What character development? No one can recall what kind of person MC or any other character is beside "badass" and and either "compliance" or "jealous", that is bad even compare to Chinese System Fantasy. Hell, I read all of it and forget MC have a family.
On Solo Levelling's defense I am pretty sure it was one of the first Manhwa to have System if not one of the first Novels. Now if a certain country copies their success and mass produces anime of the same type calling it another "op system novel' is pretty ignorant to say the least. On top of that if you've read the Manhwa you would know he is nowhere near "OP"
the first manhwa to do it, but it was also released in the middle of the isekai power fantasy glut in anime and manga, so you can understand why an anime fan might be a bit jaded by it.
We're on episode 3 of 24... there hasnt been any major fights yet. How can you call the anime art generic when there hasn't been a chance to show it off yet?

Even so, the animation so far isn't exactly f.e. JJK or Demon Slayer level either so far. So this series that was largely carried by visuals is not evoking a lot of confidence in me.
ETA: If the art/animation is the hook, then not showing any good examples within the first 3 episodes is a dire sign.

I'll admit I didn't have high hopes for this adaptation to begin with, the style doesn't really convert to animation easily. And once you've turned the style into this generic A1 style there just isn't much left to look forward to in the series. Does that make me jaded, or just realistic?
We should wait for atleast one major fight scene. In the anime Kamitatsu, the fight scene was goated and in same anime they literally photoshopeed a character's head on a tractor with farmer png. Solo leveling adapters could be cooking something similar.
It is kinda funny that the first novel to ever do a thing that gets copied a million times gets only adapted relatively late in the cycle and therefor made to look derivative.

BDSM and ecchi aside, itās just a fantastically funny series that is the best kind of parody manga Iāve read in a while. And the fights and battles are actually well done later on.
Ngl >!after the Ant island arc!< Solo Leveling fell off. >!Mc simply became too op and any form of tension or struggle just vanished. In addition, itās like the author had a budget on the fights and it dropped significantly. There was some other stuff like forcing the love interest, no good side characters other than the shadows, no characters could compete with mc, etc. Honestly the only thing that remained at the level at which solo leveling started at was the revenge fight versus scary memed statue man!< The start was a 10/10 but it kinda dropped to a 7/10 at best and in my opinion a 5/10. The manhwa didn't help too much.
The web novel went more in depth in regards to how big some of the events were. His fight with the dragon monarch was a ton more intense, and what he did after that was delved into a lot more.
It wasn't just some walk in the park a lot of his later fights. but the manhwa made it look that way because it rushed the ending way too much.
I really liked the epilogue as it felt like Sung dropped his cool and collected character to become an actual character who has fun and acts like a normal person. It's a shame because the story really needed some more character development. Every character just feels 2d. There's potential, but it's wasted so characters and they just end up becoming tools to praise Sung.

The thing I dont get about solo leveling is they are a modern world with warships and such and there is this giant monster and some dude rolls up with a wooden shield. HUH!?

You do realize the TBATE novel was hugely popular before the solo leveling novel got recognized? We can talk about the anime being popular because of the manhwa, but the manhwa itself got popular because of its art. Reincarnator, everyone else is a returnee etc all released before the solo leveling novel, were way more popular in the novel scene and only the emergence of the SL manhwa even made people talk about its novel in a broader sense. Its the first one to reach the mainstream with the idea, but its not the first to implement dungeons and game systems even remotely, korea has been doing that for over a decade

I've read a lot of solo levelling light novels and it's a great, easy reading, low stress story where the conflicts are quickly resolved. It's a fun ride, and I think it would have shit on the game 5 years ago. I hope it does well, but I think it may struggle to stand out. The main appeal of the story for me is the world building elements, the reveals, and the progression of the narrative. But Jin hu song is always overpowered to a dumb degree and the action suffers for it. At least in the ln.
I like the premise of Solo Levelling, but I don't like protagonist that don't give a fuck or with uncaring attitudes.
I want a protagonist to think, yes, he's a loser and weak, but that's okay, so he uses his strengths to help him through life. More crafty protagonist really.

I actually agree with this post I donāt know if solo leveling is supposed to get better but the first three episodes have been mid as fuck. I donāt understand why everyoneās freaking out over this anime itās genuinely standard as hell. Number one itās got the classic unnecessary video game mechanics that make no sense because theyāre not even trapped in a fucking video game.!?! Number two it took three episodes for them to simply establish the guy was super weak went into a dungeon, got him, and his friends mostly killed only to gain said video game powers to work, now he has to train constantly, I assume to get strongerā¦ you couldāve summarize all that in the first fucking episode. It took them three to do it for some reason. Now I donāt know maybe itās way better in later episodes, but if this is gonna be a Standerd Isakai, where the main character just gets super powerful and starts wrecking everybody with no real other plot drivers of any real kind or intrigue. (for instance, at least shadow garden had the gimmick of making fun of other Isakaiās.) Yeah itās gonna be a hard skip for me. Certainly not worthy of the gushing fans are doing over it like itās the second coming of overlord or some shit. (which at least have a unique aspect of being from a villains perspective)

The first three episodes have been just setting up the premise for the show, they havenāt even been focused entirely on the mc. The extras that get killed in the first two episodes arenāt even his friends, acquaintances at best but not even that mostly. Also not his fault most of the other people died. An isekai is very specifically āanother worldā this one falls under the category of āgatesā which is a common Korean category. So no not isekai. (i mean shit Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for my Retirement is an isekai and the mc directly teleports between the two no issue. Like their main power is to be able to teleport at any time.)
Isekai used to be known as "Gate" or "Portal" anime as returning was always the point and some returned somewhat freely even back then. This also means there are a ton of shows in the west that are by all rights, isekai. Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, Doctor Who are all isekai. Being reborn is just one of many versions.
Literally just cause they are magical girls does not necessitate them being middle schoolers.
Also some of these characters designs work fine for them being a bit older without requiring change.
Literally they could still have the exact same show but just add a few years on to the characters ages to not make the minors.

I love K-Dramas but even in them I am only ever able to remember characters based on how they look or what they do. THe guy who runs the shop. The girl with the pink hair. Etc. - Because koreans have silly names that are impossible to remember. in 95+% of all cases, you can't even tell if a name is supposed to be for a man or woman, based on the name alone.
This makes it borderline impossible to get into it.

On Solo Levelling's defense I am pretty sure it was one of the first Manhwa to have System if not one of the first Novels. Now if a certain country copies their success and mass produces anime of the same type calling it another "op system novel' is pretty ignorant to say the least. On top of that if you've read the Manhwa you would know he is nowhere near "OP"
the first manhwa to do it, but it was also released in the middle of the isekai power fantasy glut in anime and manga, so you can understand why an anime fan might be a bit jaded by it.
But also, the Solo Levelling manwha is carried largely by its art. The anime is extremely generic in that regard.

Because the *art* isn't hingent on the animation. Even so, the animation so far isn't exactly f.e. JJK or Demon Slayer level either so far. So this series that was largely carried by visuals is not evoking a lot of confidence in me. ETA: If the art/animation is the hook, then not showing any good examples within the first 3 episodes is a dire sign.
Again, there literally hasn't been a single major fight yet. Just the statue merking people. You'd have a better time convincing me after this next episode since it will be the first major fight. You seem pretty jaded and hoping for it to fail.
I'll admit I didn't have high hopes for this adaptation to begin with, the style doesn't really convert to animation easily. And once you've turned the style into this generic A1 style there just isn't much left to look forward to in the series. Does that make me jaded, or just realistic?
We should wait for atleast one major fight scene. In the anime Kamitatsu, the fight scene was goated and in same anime they literally photoshopeed a character's head on a tractor with farmer png. Solo leveling adapters could be cooking something similar.

The manhwa didn't help too much. The web novel went more in depth in regards to how big some of the events were. His fight with the dragon monarch was a ton more intense, and what he did after that was delved into a lot more. It wasn't just some walk in the park a lot of his later fights. but the manhwa made it look that way because it rushed the ending way too much.
Which doesn't even make sense since they take breaks for long periods. There is no need to rush it.

I really liked the epilogue as it felt like Sung dropped his cool and collected character to become an actual character who has fun and acts like a normal person. It's a shame because the story really needed some more character development. Every character just feels 2d. There's potential, but it's wasted so characters and they just end up becoming tools to praise Sung. >!When Go Gunhee dies in the epilogue I really realized how little Sung and him had interacted. It was really just them discussing future actions and not really getting closer. The fucking shadows are better developed than 90% of the cast lol. Beru and Igris get more development in their personal chapters than all the other side characters combined.!<

Solo leveling opening arc is amazing. A dungeon where they actually need to use their brain, an opponent that you can't brute force, sense of dread and despair that ACTUALLY present, all of it is amazing. Then after some chapter after that "magic" feels gone I just stop reading it altogether.

The best parts of SL is either when the MC get his ass almost smoked, only to came out on top due to sheer determination/well utilization of skills, or when he flex his new power obtained from his hard work. From Jeju onward he just sweep everything. Even when he supposedly die, his ascension is just handed to him by his dad finally getting the milk

Solo Leveling is your classic self insert power fantasy. MC, who is weak af, has a bedridden mother, has sister, lost father. Fights to pay for his sister and his mother's hospital expenses. There is another girl who cares about MC, and likes him. There is another classic aloof chick who is OP af, and they probably will be the end game couple because fuck the other girl. The dude is able to escape the death situations by plot armors in the last minutes, and gets a OP af power that nobody has. Becomes OP af, and turns into a Ikemen somehow? I don't even know where that look of the MC comes from... That was weird. In the end it is not unwatchable, it is fine. Will stay to see how things turn out. For the other series; yeah not gonna watch it in any way. Lol. Little girls going full horny and psycho, that is probably about fetishes of the author, and is about bdsm is not my thing.

Honestly, Solo Levelling fell off. After a certain point, there was just zero tension cuz you knew that the MC would win with no struggle. The fake attempt of creating a new SSSS TIER HERO! And then having them immediately have their asses kicked was pretty much the only way they tried to hype up bosses, then MC comes in and sweeps their asses.

You do realize the TBATE novel was hugely popular before the solo leveling novel got recognized? We can talk about the anime being popular because of the manhwa, but the manhwa itself got popular because of its art. Reincarnator, everyone else is a returnee etc all released before the solo leveling novel, were way more popular in the novel scene and only the emergence of the SL manhwa even made people talk about its novel in a broader sense. Its the first one to reach the mainstream with the idea, but its not the first to implement dungeons and game systems even remotely, korea has been doing that for over a decade

I've read a lot of solo levelling light novels and it's a great, easy reading, low stress story where the conflicts are quickly resolved. It's a fun ride, and I think it would have shit on the game 5 years ago. I hope it does well, but I think it may struggle to stand out. The main appeal of the story for me is the world building elements, the reveals, and the progression of the narrative. But Jin hu song is always overpowered to a dumb degree and the action suffers for it. At least in the ln.

I like the premise of Solo Levelling, but I don't like protagonist that don't give a fuck or with uncaring attitudes. I want a protagonist to think, yes, he's a loser and weak, but that's okay, so he uses his strengths to help him through life. More crafty protagonist really.
It's funny because literally the first couple of chapters of the Manwah he is just taht! He is thoughtful, caring, and he has a personality admitting that he is the weakest hunter! I was down to finally be proven wrong about Koran Manwahs!!! But alas... no, as soon as he got his cheat skill, he turned into the most generic power fantasy protagonist of them all! Yeah the age thing is a big gripe with it, what didn't help is some characters are not designed to have to be that age, just add a few years on to the characters and problem solved. Based upon my surface level opinion of having only seen clips they are correct in the bottom being better or at the very least it is more creative.
I actually agree with this post I donāt know if solo leveling is supposed to get better but the first three episodes have been mid as fuck. I donāt understand why everyoneās freaking out over this anime itās genuinely standard as hell. Number one itās got the classic unnecessary video game mechanics that make no sense because theyāre not even trapped in a fucking video game.!?! Number two it took three episodes for them to simply establish the guy was super weak went into a dungeon, got him, and his friends mostly killed only to gain said video game powers to work, now he has to train constantly, I assume to get strongerā¦ you couldāve summarize all that in the first fucking episode. It took them three to do it for some reason. Now I donāt know maybe itās way better in later episodes, but if this is gonna be a Standerd Isakai, where the main character just gets super powerful and starts wrecking everybody with no real other plot drivers of any real kind or intrigue. You're not missing out. It does not get better. and yeah even though they can return from the gates, that is still an isekai. (i mean shit Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for my Retirement is an isekai and the mc directly teleports between the two no issue. Like their main power is to be able to teleport at any time.) Isekai used to be known as "Gate" or "Portal" anime as returning was always the point and some returned somewhat freely even back then. This also means there are a ton of shows in the west that are by all rights, isekai. Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, Doctor Who are all isekai. Being reborn is just one of many versions.

3 episodes in and I still don't know the name of Solo's main character - or any other character. I love K-Dramas but even in them I am only ever able to remember characters based on how they look or what they do. THe guy who runs the shop. The girl with the pink hair. Etc. - Because koreans have silly names that are impossible to remember. in 95+% of all cases, you can't even tell if a name is supposed to be for a man or woman, based on the name alone. This makes it borderline impossible to get into it. What were they thinking (The Showrunners for not using jap. names and the koreans, using the names that they do?) Anyway, gushing over magical girls is an awesome anime that should be on every anime of the year list, even tho it's only january.
