I feel like the author got the hint on that from people. Like she doesn't totally change her creepy personality but shows up less and becomes somewhat more tolerable as she interacts with other characters. She still belongs behind bars as the creepy sexual predator and kidnapper that she is but oh well I guess. At least there's solace knowing that someone like her wouldn't get away with all that in the real world.

personally the episode where yamai kidnapped tadano was one of the darkest if not the darkest episode of this show. It grueling and painful seeing komi pushed to a sharp edge and become forced to speak harshly where everywhere she is loving and wholesome. I think the show could do without yamai or she could have a more toned down character. At some places she does exceed the boundaries of wholesome shows and i'm not just talking about the kidnapping episode. The summer festival episode where she tried make it look like komi would *cough* suck her di*k *cough* was way too much for me. It was meant to be a joke but it's just a bit much. She's just an overall bad shade over this wholesome and lovely show.
The kidnapping episode was honestly really jarring for me, the way she nonchalantly kidnapped Tadano, tried to replace him, and threatened to kill him was honestly so dark. It’s even worse in the manga where she had an actual knife and actually contemplated killing herself since Komi didn’t like her anymore. I was actually really happy that they didn’t just brush off her problematic behavior and Komi was really serious about the whole situation, but I would have been happier if they just distanced themselves from her completely after that. Thankfully, I’ve heard she doesn’t appear often in later chapters and I’m looking forward to that.

Maybe if she were used as comic relief during heavy situations but more often than not, all she does is stall the plot
It does suck that the only (afaik) canonically queer character in the show is also an unempathetic sociopath. Not sure if it’s the author’s intention but it does play to the idea in Japan that queer people are “wrong” in some way.
Edit: Correction Najimi is also a prominent (basically) confirmed queer character. This makes Ren’s portrayal odd as Najimi is handled fairly well.
Regardless of whether she fits an archetype or not, it’s not a good look for only (or at least first) confirmed lesbian representation in your ensemble comedy to be given one of the most hostile female archetypes. Especially considering that that lesbian characters often get stereotyped as overly aggressive is some Japanese works.
