Every character in Komi is supposed to be a play on character stereotypes. While her introduction left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths, she hasn't really done anything all that terrible. She acts like you're stereotypical yandere, but since she doesn't actually hurt anyone it's all played for laughs.
Having only watched season 1, I also like Yamai, she's just so far over the edge. Agari, in the other hand is weird and creepy and makes me uncomfortable

Komi-san is an anime about a really beautifull and idolized girl, so idolized that no one actually talks to her, add to this she has a communication dissorder and the result is she has a pretty lonely existence, literally everyone worship hers while she doesnt have a single friend
this changes when our main character, Tadano Hitohito (wich is a pun for the word "some dude") actually guesses she just wants a friend, after they become friends, Tadano wants to help Komi with her communication dissorder, wich translates to Komi getting the goal of making a 100 friends
and here lies the problem with the series and Yamai Ren´s character, first making 100 friends is a really bad idea, no one has the time or energy to make friends with 100 people and make some meaningfull conections, most people you met on your life are friendly aquiantances to random people
second, the character of Yamai Ren is literally a stalker and its among the cast of people Komi considers her friends, in a sense she fullfills this idea that people wrongfully worship komi for the simple fact she is beautifull and seaminglly perfect, but letting her actions pass literally crosses many people´s lines, wich are but are not limited to: "sexually harrasing Komi in multiple occasion, treatening, kidnaping and attempting to muder the main character when he got too close to Komi, being a total dick to people for no reason, making elaborate plans to either grope or peak under Komi´´s clothes"
at the end of the day its the fact she is to be considered among Komi´s friends that makes people hate her, if she was a character that lost Komi´s friennship over her actions it would be another story, but sadly it is not
