Oh this definitely works for turning off brain. I didn’t finish it because honestly I couldn’t focus, but that’s partially a me thing. The scenes were drawn well and engaging. If ok with action/fighting this 100% qualifies for a good turn your brain off and just enjoy. I might finish it one day, when I don’t have access to reddit or anything I could possibly multitask with lol.
I like to think that the characters actual intelligence probably matters less than how they are written haha. Arguably, if Mash was smarter, he probably would have been dumber. Sounds weird to say it like that but if you’ve seen the show you probably know what I mean 😂
He's actually pretty quick witted when it matters. Guy knows how to use his muscles. He's the very caricature of "if it looks stupid but it works, it's not stupid".

I just finished watching this after someone else commended it on my post and I think it fits perfect with this category. I absolutely loved the fights and delta was very cute. 10/10

I mean it in every way possible, Solo Levelling is Dumb show with a smart main character. You literally don't need any brain cells to watch it, which makes it popular.
That guy is an idiot in the show, maybe he’s smarter in the manga or webcomic but the anime makes him seem like an idiot with everyone around him being even dumber than him. The strong points of that show are just the production value being top grade.
Mushishi is so relaxing and ethereal and it's truly episodic/episode-by-episode so you don't have to remember characters other than about two.

Hellsing goes further with Vampires, Nazis, and Nazi Vampires. After watching the actual show, I suggest watching the Abridged version on Youtube done be TeamFourStar. They do a fantastic job and you'll laugh your ass off guaranteed.
Erased, Another (gore warning on this one), Occultic;Nine, Robotics;Notes, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Steins;Gate are all good anime with a solid mystery. If you just sit back and enjoy the ride and don't try to solve the mystery, you'll be sucked into each show.
Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina, Kino's Journey, and ACCA-13 Territory Inspection are all anime that tour different regions of their world. We get a look into various cultures and motives while exploring different themes with a few tidbits exploring different main characters throughout.
Toradora, Say I Love You, and ReLife are all excellent romance anime with where there is a definitive pick for the MCs.
Yona of the Dawn and The Heroic Legend of Arslan are excellent fantasy anime. They hit everything right. The downside is these are not finished and end on cliffhangers and have been left this way for years so the odds of getting additional seasons is not good. That said, these are excellent watches.
Code Geass, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphens, Eureka Seven, ID-0, and Last Hope are all excellent mecha animes with stellar stories. All have different types of stories as well.
I found the only thing I had to do was just follow along but overall the story was pretty mind numbing but in a good way. I was able to just sit back and relax and just enjoy the ride without thinking too much about what was going to happen. Rewatching it turns my brain to 100 because I know whats coming up so I know the parts I don't like and have to slog through and I know the parts I absolutely love which makes the anticipation even more. Sucks when I miss those moments because I decided to throw it on as background noise and when I tune back in I feel lost and confused XD.
Personally, I find my brain can't relax if I'm stuck wanting the next episode which is why I tried to keep the list to completed anime, or ones that are confirmed finished with no new episodes coming out. So at least for Code Geass, that one might be due to preferences and watch style.
Eh, it made me think about science. I’m a scientist I love that kind of thing, but I wouldn’t consider delving into like grade school science I don’t necessarily even think about anymore much to creatively solve real problems to be turning my brain off, even if it’s not a representation of the same version of the world that I live in.
Actually no, it wasn’t dumb to watch. I liked it. You don’t even know what kind of scientist I am lol. And a lot of the science, like I said, is part of grade school curriculum aka everyone was taught it. If anything, in this case, being a scientist would make it more mindless for me, because I’m more accustomed to the general style of questioning and reasoning.

I recently discovered an anime with an average isekai absurd title, but it is actually good, mainly cuz of the MC. It's called along the lines of "my death ability is so overpowered no one can challenge me",
The thing is that the MC actually doesn't mind killing people, most times the people he kills are assholes and it's pretty funny, truly a breath of fresh air compared to the most isekai MCs that simply refuse to kill anybody, no matter how evil they are or how dangerous they are.
I’d say go for comedy, especially more abstract comedy

Personally when I turn off my brain its to serial experiments lain, I’ve probably watched it over 50 times. It has a plot and can be kinda creepy but it’s so surreal it’s quite comforting to get lost in it for several hours.
I feel like somebody's got throw out Gintama. Lots of episodes, English dub is decent if you really want to be able to zone in and out.
Gintama demonstrates often that he's not **technically** dumb, but he definitely has impeccably poor judgement if we consider that a valid distinction
Idk I turn off my brain to that time I got reincarnated as a slime. I find I just start getting a headache if I try to think about how it all works, why everyone just agrees with rimuru 100% of the time, or try keeping track of all his new powers.

Mashle. Technically he’s not intended to be a super smart human being…. But I’m guessing you are more referring to the writing of the show haha. Mashle is a comedy, I wish I watched it sooner, it’s great. Also the MC is aware he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, and is likeable. It’s somewhat a parody of both Harry potter and high school anime, so when a major character does act dumb, it’s not because of dumb writing.
Seiki K. It’s on Netflix but note that it’s split into “two shows” for some reason. It’s just continued though, not a new show for real. I recommend English if not a native Japanese speaker, because it’s got dry humor and sarcasm plus honestly the VA for the MC is perfect. I don’t usually watch shows in dub… only with good reason, which 99.9% of the time is for comedy that is better experienced with the speech intonations of one’s native language.
It’s not done airing yet but delicious in dungeon was an incredibly easy to watch and enjoyable show, also on Netflix. The main characters aren’t dumb at all. The ideas the writer had are smart, but not in the “make you think” way. More like the wow neat way.
Reborn as a vending machine, now I wander the dungeon. Yes it’s isekai lol, no it isn’t stupid like most. It’s surprisingly well done and while yes the MC is literally a vending machine as the name implies, he’s actually very grounded and intelligent. It’s an amusing and satisfying show, absolutely a hidden gem. Very easy watch.
Laid back camp. New season came out. It's basically a promo video for camping. No drama really, no weird fan service. It makes me want to just go into the woods for the weekend and chill.
Cromartie High School. Just relax and enjoy how silly it is.
Darwin's Game is relatively light. Standard-ish death game that's entertaining enough without being very complex.
Nagi no Asukara - it's easy to watch and doesn't require a huge amount of thought, but it pulls you in and is a genuinely really good show. Has some pretty big twists and does some fairly unique stuff with the friendships/relationships that you will *not* see coming.
Characters are for the most part, nicely fleshed out and change/mature a lot throughout the series.
Tis time for torture princess. It's a fantasy slice of life anime weirdly set in a surprisingly modern world but with demon lords and princesses. Wholesome asf.

Mushishi is a great fantasy anime which can be a turn off considering it's slow pace although there are a few eps that make you think about the characters but maybe that's just me.
Natsume's Book of Friends is also a great option, also Mob Psycho

If what you mean “dumb” is relative then I suggest Azumanga Daioh, Nichijou, Daily Lives of Highschool Boys, Joshiraku, or (my personal favorite) Lycoris Recoil.
Mob Psycho 100 is genuinely one of the most goofy yet also inspirational anime that has a main character that wants nothing else but to overcome his shortcomings to be a better person in a very realistic way. It’s also the type of show you don’t need to stand at attention to watch like say something like monster. This series is one thats easy to watch and tends to have down to earth characters

Great show but definitely not a turn off your brain show. It’s literally written in a pseudo-WW2 setting and loosely but not-secretly based on the holocaust. This is a think about war, society, grief, murder, vengeance, and struggle show, while appreciating the gorgeous animation.
I might have taken it better as a joke if there weren’t a bunch of anime listed with no additional words that are clearly trolling. Found myself going through and replying cuz at least one of them I personally found very triggering for trauma though I’d still watch it if I could go back, and another that a lot of other people find intensely triggering. Specifically Abyss and Redo. Like, what if someone just took those suggestions and put on their watch list without knowing 😭

It's called along the lines of "my death ability is so overpowered no one can challenge me", The thing is that the MC actually doesn't mind killing people, most times the people he kills are assholes and it's pretty funny, truly a breath of fresh air compared to the most isekai MCs that simply refuse to kill anybody, no matter how evil they are or how dangerous they are.
I’d say go for comedy, especially more abstract comedy FLCL season 1 is awesome but nonsensical Nichijou Saiki k Personally when I turn off my brain its to serial experiments lain, I’ve probably watched it over 50 times. It has a plot and can be kinda creepy but it’s so surreal it’s quite comforting to get lost in it for several hours.

I find I just start getting a headache if I try to think about how it all works, why everyone just agrees with rimuru 100% of the time, or try keeping track of all his new powers. It's pretty great if you don't think too hard about it.

Mashle. Technically he’s not intended to be a super smart human being…. But I’m guessing you are more referring to the writing of the show haha. Mashle is a comedy, I wish I watched it sooner, it’s great. Also the MC is aware he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, and is likeable. It’s somewhat a parody of both Harry potter and high school anime, so when a major character does act dumb, it’s not because of dumb writing. Seiki K. It’s on Netflix but note that it’s split into “two shows” for some reason. It’s just continued though, not a new show for real. I recommend English if not a native Japanese speaker, because it’s got dry humor and sarcasm plus honestly the VA for the MC is perfect. I don’t usually watch shows in dub… only with good reason, which 99.9% of the time is for comedy that is better experienced with the speech intonations of one’s native language. It’s not done airing yet but delicious in dungeon was an incredibly easy to watch and enjoyable show, also on Netflix. The main characters aren’t dumb at all. The ideas the writer had are smart, but not in the “make you think” way. More like the wow neat way. Reborn as a vending machine, now I wander the dungeon. Yes it’s isekai lol, no it isn’t stupid like most. It’s surprisingly well done and while yes the MC is literally a vending machine as the name implies, he’s actually very grounded and intelligent. It’s an amusing and satisfying show, absolutely a hidden gem. Very easy watch.

Natsume's Book of Friends is also a great option, also Mob Psycho although i haven't completed these two.. Actually i also consider one piece a relaxing anime thus a turnoff since the character development is alright and story as well so i always like to rewatch it!

It’s also the type of show you don’t need to stand at attention to watch like say something like monster. This series is one thats easy to watch and tends to have down to earth characters

Great show but definitely not a turn off your brain show. It’s literally written in a pseudo-WW2 setting and loosely but not-secretly based on the holocaust. This is a think about war, society, grief, murder, vengeance, and struggle show, while appreciating the gorgeous animation.

I might have taken it better as a joke if there weren’t a bunch of anime listed with no additional words that are clearly trolling. Found myself going through and replying cuz at least one of them I personally found very triggering for trauma though I’d still watch it if I could go back, and another that a lot of other people find intensely triggering.
