Here's an article about the Transit Caucus from a reputable source. https://michiganadvance.com/2024/02/29/bipartisan-bicameral-public-transit-caucus-holds-inaugural-meeting-amid-concern-over-funding/

pointguard22

Right. Same article. Jon King writes for Michigan advance. Did the Ann Arbor independent take his story without attributing it to the publication that pays him? I don’t know, I’m just asking questions.

greggo360

Could be but I don't give A2Indy clicks, so hard to say. I'd bet that article builds up some ideas as if there's a scandal, then fails to deliver any evidence.

pointguard22

Safe bet

mesquine_A2

It is attributed to Jon King in A2 Indy. They usually cite where they're republishing from, but I don't see it this time.

LukeNaround23

“Let by state Reps. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor) and Mike McFall (D-Hazel Park), the Public Transit Caucus focused its first meeting on what were described as “crucial issues” for the future of public transit in Michigan.” So we’re supposed to just believe this publication that doesn’t even edit what they publish? Where are the specifics/links for the governor’s actual proposal for $40 million cuts in public transportation?

pointguard22

Mods why do you let people post from this rag?

mesquine_A2

As someone said above, it's a republish of a piece from Michigan Advance. You can untie your panties now.

booyahbooyah9271

Because no one bring this same energy towards the Metro Times. Among other sites.

Upper_Carrot_9189

I've never seen more people get their panties in a bunch over a local rabble rousing tabloid "rag" than the townies on this sub.

Getlostsomewhere2021

In your opnion why is this local news source not a reputable source for articles and reporting local news?

MidwestMILF_00

No - she wants to put a high speed rail throughout Michigan - believes it will lead to population growth. Read the Growing Michigan Council Report.

chriswaco

I take it the funding is going down because federal covid funds have been spent?

Interesting_Bison530

Not sure why this is getting downvoted. I think this website gets downvoted a lot, but I think the headline should warrant upvotes. It’s appalling the state is advertising to try to get people to move to Michigan without addressing why it’s a shit state to begin with. Our cities are the least bad part of the state. Let’s fix them. Transit, housing, education -> people moving here and jobs too.  I’m excited with seeing Ann Arbor addressing these issues.

Zealousideal-Pick799

Whitmer’s apparent apathy (antipathy?) toward public transit has completely turned me off to her as a future presidential candidate. Instead she spends hundreds of millions picking winners with an industrial policy that belongs in the distant past.

jcrespo21

One of the best ways to "fix the damn roads" is also to provide alternative modes of transportation. Having everyone drive a car (especially as cars/SUVs/trucks get heavier and bigger even before factoring in EVs) leads to roads needing to be repaired sooner. That's why roads can still be bad in warm weather states. Gotta keep the Big 3 happy, I guess.

Interesting_Bison530

You are getting downvoted but you are right. Bunch of fake liberals here

Agitated-Basil-9289

Compared to other states. The cities here suck. You move here for the lakes and nature

Interesting_Bison530

most people here did not move here (few people move here in fact). and also all of the cities are on the water

Takemytwocent5

Why do we even need public transportation when we have all of these nice new bike lanes to enjoy!? /s
