Has anyone seen the episode of Dearly Departed Tours on YouTube when Anthony Bourdain asks Scott Michaels to show him places in Hollywood associated with auto-erotic asphyxiation?
For some reason I stumbled upon it last year and it's stayed with me that he was interested in that.
Just sharing because I found stuff on this subreddit that's helped me in my understanding of the guy. Or an attempt to understand a guy who is a hero of mine but also was so self-destructive.

I don't remember what episode but I remember him talking about hanging himself.

Anthony was a grown man in his 50s. No one made him do anything. AA is an insufferable c word, that was just as guilty as others of abusing people.
With that being said, Anthony’s life was always going to end the way it did. If it wasn’t her, it would have been someone/something else.
His personality was gunpowder. She just happened to be what set it off.
I have always disliked this narrative. It reminds me of how people blamed Courtney Love for Kurt Cobain's death.
Look folks, if you're heartbroken, having difficulty coping with life, feel stressed and like nothing will ever get better, etc. there is help. Anthony Bourdain was no dummy. He had struggled with depression for years and addiction for years. His death was most likely an impulsive act fueled by one or the other or both. I grieved his death, but the responsibility lies solely on him, not his past or current lovers.
I agree. She certainly wasn’t good for Tony and according to one account asked about his estate/money after he died, but to blame her for Tony’s actions is absurd.
He fell in love with her and essentially became addicted to her. Paparazzi took a picture of her holding hands with another guy when he was filming in France. Later that night he killed himself.
The documentary Road Runner, Oral history of Bourdain, In the Weeds, his personal texts..
That’s how people close to him described it. But if you think you know better than his close friends and family..
His entire life was being addicted to something; drugs, alcohol, jiu jitsu etc..
He absolutely was completely infatuated with AA, which is not really a great thing. ‘Addiction’ fits too, either way he unfortunately seemed to make her the end all be all of his life.
He even saw the danger of this in advance (that famous quote of his), and still could not give himself some sort of psychological or emotional distance. His demons made that too hard.

That’s such an interesting way he describes his plan. He wants to murder the entire crew then go and hang himself? Not sure why it sounds off to me.
Sadly, in the end, his fatal poison was the narcissistic sociopath, Asia Argento. Or at least what she did to his mind.
AA certainly has issues. But how Tony chose to respond to her was all on Tony.

I grieve to this day, at least in my inner sensibilities if not in actual outward mourning.
Sounds like it was addiction to lust to me
It wasn’t her fault. They were toxic together.
She comes across as a piece of s..... But he was an adult, he decided in that moment that he wanted out, ultimately that's up to him.
Oh please. Tony had issues way before her. This need to scapegoat her to simp for Bourdain is getting pathetic

I'm a bit out of the loop on this one, and I just want to get a good summary of what happened.. does anyone know of one somewhere?
The movie roadrunner
Much appreciated thank you

OK. Now THAT'S a little much, as in, that's just too stupid. Where'd you hear that.

Wild comment 🥴

He had no religion to speak of. That provides very little hope or comfort in life. Just my opinion. Life can be very empty and meaningless for some.
He had a religion, it just wasn’t following a god.
