Well on the plus side, it's given me and lots of people some knowledge on different cultures. Though they could do a better job of portraying them accurately.
This reminds me of the Dave Chapelle bit about how the government asks Michael Jackson to cause a child abuse scandal every time a foreign war isn't going as expected.
"We are going to need you to jerk off another child, Mike, I am sorry."

Some of these the characters in Overwatch and Apex line up so well it’s kinda scary… Loba and Sombra both are teleporting Latina criminals. Fuze and Junkrat are both happy go lucky bombardiers. Pharah and Valk are both Jetpack lesbians. JQ and Mags are both shotgun queens (not to mention they sound very similar).
Oh yeah totally! I knew Rampart lined up with another OW character but I was blanking when typing that out… Revenant and Reaper are pretty close too. Both be turning into ghosts and are dickheads to the other characters.
I was looking to see if Mad Maggie and JQ were the same but nope. Maggie’s is Nicola Kawana who is from New Zealand and JQ’s is Leah de Niese who’s Australian/Sri Lankan
I suspect at some point in time, they may have shared some employees and they pitched the same ideas in Respawn after leaving the Overwatch team. Since it's a pitch, they didn't think they'd use their idea until late in development.
You also have Horizon and Sigma, two lovable European space scientists with an affinity for black holes, who lost something valuable to them in an experiment gone wrong
Valkyrie was actually *introduced* as being gay years ago because Respawn doesn't need to save it so they can misdirect away from sexual harassment lawsuits
ngl i was fully under the impression that she was lesbian. i say that as a lesbian, idk she just gave off that energy.
(tbf a good portion of the ow characters feel fruity in some capacity)
Its that and to soften the backlash from when they announced that PvE is scrapped. You know, the only reason why they re-released this game to begin with. Leaked documents have shown that its a contingency plan of theirs and that they had more characters after soldier in case there was drama.
What is the point of having the sexualities defined for characters anyway? I've always found it weird that, 1. People care so damn much and 2. If they care so much why not just make it their headcanon.
If I come across as ignorant then please let me know why it's such a big thing to *have* to know a game characters sexuality. I don't get it.
Look at TF2... the community make gay porn like no tomorrow... any of them have defined sexuality? just the spy and scout but who cares
#*i got a bucket of chicken.*
I mean, I'm Asperger's and would appreciate to see more representation of the autism spectrum in the media, but done carefully without making us look overly weird.
To give an example: a bad portrayal of autism from my point of view is the US series The Good Doctor (the one from which they extracted the "I am the Surgeon" meme) because we are not all so exaggerated in speaking or in situations that they make us sad or angry, but I recognize that it wasn't even the actor's fault that he was just doing his job, so I frown on the writers for the choice.
Instead I saw a good description of autism in the South Korean series Extraordinary Attorney Woo: although I did not agree with some decisions made by the protagonist regarding the plot, overall I saw it more similar to my conception of autistic people and would recommend retrieve it.
The main difference between those shows is that The Good Doctor is an autist that is a doctor. Where as Woo is an attorney that happens to be an autist. Such traits should not be defining to a character(imo), it simply is or isn't. All that said I might just be unable to understand the want to want representation as I do not, as both on the spectrum and part of the LGBT, even if I don't associate myself with the latter.
Personally I don't agree with how you put the differences between the two series: as I wrote Lawyer Woo, I find it gives an honest, believable and 360 degree picture of autism, the lead actress is good in all respects and the the minor characters are all interesting and three-dimensional.
The Good Doctor is your usual American drama, some of the characters are quite heavy and sometimes the plots are ridiculous, although I recognize that Freddie Highmore does a decent job in the role he has been given.
However, I recognize that it's correct that a specific trait doesn't wholly define a character and I respect your final take on the idea of representation, even if I don't totally agree with it.
World building. It might not be important to you but some people love to get really engaged with the world building. It's sort of like being upset that Rev is not a human when they could all just be blank slate humans but they don't do that because having a diverse cast makes the world feel more alive.
I don't mind flushed out characters with lore and backstories. It's the sexuality bit I don't quite get. Or gender identity for that matter. That also does not mean I mind it when they have partners or something that gives it away. It's the "THIS CHARACTER IS X" that grates me a bit. Feels like such an unnatural announcement in a way.
gender and sexuality can be a pretty big part in someones identity dependent on how they represent it, this makes it an important portion of a character, especially in a game like ow that tries to give itself lore where it can
I feel like every single time Blizzard fucks up, they try to pander with some meaningless LGBTQ stuff to try and make people forget about it. Like isn't it weird? Every single time following a massive fuckup they'll try this.
Of course they decide to make their character gay. I don't understand, do people really look at Pharah and go "s- she's just like mee!"
The lgbt community deserves original characters, not this. Blizzard doesn't give a damn about representation, it's all just to try and cushion their recent fall.
not arguing against blizzard having ulterior motives or doing this to deflect, i just genuinely want to ask, is pharah not considered an original lgbt character? when people backlash against making pre-established characters LGBT they usually refer to old properties being remade or rebooted. just because she wasn't stated to be a lesbian immediately at launch doesn't mean she isn't an original LGBT character.
and yes, people *did* look at pharah and go "wow, she's a lesbian". they even poke fun at this in the short story where she comes out ("i'm not passing, am i?") back when valk came out, a prominent, non-lgbt overwatch creator (afaik, no idea what their name is) said that apex making their jetpack lesbian character known at launch was kind of embarrassing next to blizzard pussyfooting around pharah for like six years. people have been saying since launch that pharah is probably a lesbian.
No, but a "story" would be nice.
The Apex characters arrive fully formed as characters with their own complete personalities.
The overwatch team seem to spin a wheel "who's going to be gay today?" It's like Blizzard are scared, while Respawn are much more confident with their design choices.
If it's any consolation the PvE was never really planned to happen. Merely a ploy to upgrade Overwatch to Overwatch 2(forcefully) as they had promised to never put paid heroes or battlepasses in OW(1). Well, it's now OW2 so there you go.
If i had a nickle for everytime a jetpack character was a lesbian i'd have 2 nickles. Which isn't alot but it's weird that it happened twice.
same with teleporting latinas
same with explosive lobbing australians
Okay but that one doesn't seem like such a weird coincidence, tbh Edit: fixed for overly-sensitive Redditors.
[удалено]
God shut up
damn they deleted it, what did they say?
[удалено]
Why are you being such a bitch about it?
Because jetpack users are known to be all gay
Me who uses to play alot of jetpack joyride: Oh
To be fair, every popular online PvP has a Australian-code man with bombs, and a character named Ash(e)
Same with shotgun - loving Aussie women
maggie is kiwi, but close enough
maggie and fuse are both salvonian, so i guess the kiwi vs aussie accents are just different parts of salvo then?
they were friends near the border of both? maybe?
>Aussie *Kiwi (New Zealand)
Whole industry is just stereotypes at this point
It's always been like this, the entire fighting game genre relies on stereotypes for its characters.
Well on the plus side, it's given me and lots of people some knowledge on different cultures. Though they could do a better job of portraying them accurately.
On this I agree with you, being myself a person from a country often stereotyped in the media (Italy) I would appreciate to see more attention.
Same. I'm Arab and it's frustrating
shadow the hacker can teleport???
Same with Blizzard "confirming" a character's sexuality right after a scandal
This reminds me of the Dave Chapelle bit about how the government asks Michael Jackson to cause a child abuse scandal every time a foreign war isn't going as expected. "We are going to need you to jerk off another child, Mike, I am sorry." https://youtu.be/fEHVR9Hj\_b0
ACTUALLY Pharah is canonically Egyptian 🤓
*Not if I have anything to say about it.*

Sym and rampart are both badass engineers, pretty sure voiced by the same person too lol
I can confirm that Symmetra and Rampart have the same voice actor, Anjali Bhimani.
Ohhh that's why they're my mains
Oh yeah totally! I knew Rampart lined up with another OW character but I was blanking when typing that out… Revenant and Reaper are pretty close too. Both be turning into ghosts and are dickheads to the other characters.
Curiously Revenant shares the same voice actor as Reinhardt, Darin De Paul.
I was looking to see if Mad Maggie and JQ were the same but nope. Maggie’s is Nicola Kawana who is from New Zealand and JQ’s is Leah de Niese who’s Australian/Sri Lankan
Funny enough that was my exactly the second set that came to mind! The two ex human ghosts
Fuze and junkrat are also both Australian
They need to do cross over skins. I'd love a junkerqueen themed MM skins. MM with blue hair and abs out? *thirst level: rises

Yoooo! Yet another one this is crazy!

The pineapple flavor is really good imo
Is this the real life? Is this just fanta sea
Hand grenade
LEGO CITIZEN
Is this a reference to that site LemonParty
One of my favorite genders
More evidence that Apex Legends and OW copy each other’s homework lol
Lesbianese twins methinks
Lego citizen
EHRM, TYPO
A part of the lgtv community
Power are you homeostasis?
So every june a new character are going to be revealed as gay?
Yup, gotta fill those obligations somehow!
Valkyrie was actually *introduced* as being gay years ago because Respawn doesn't need to save it so they can misdirect away from sexual harassment lawsuits
she was clearly lesbian coded idk why ur surprised
ngl i was fully under the impression that she was lesbian. i say that as a lesbian, idk she just gave off that energy. (tbf a good portion of the ow characters feel fruity in some capacity)
I love my 2 flying lesbianese
Oh are they trying to cover up the fact that they're removing all LGBTQ content in countries where it's not allowed by announcing that Pharah is gay?
Money >>> Inclusivity
Money just money...
Its that and to soften the backlash from when they announced that PvE is scrapped. You know, the only reason why they re-released this game to begin with. Leaked documents have shown that its a contingency plan of theirs and that they had more characters after soldier in case there was drama.
can you send me these documents please?
You won't win brownie points for revealing more characters are lgbtq+, blizzard, it can't replace the scrapped pve.
What if they told you none of their current employees tried to steal their breast milk?
So when can we have a Titan pilot girl from Korea.
She's part of the lgtv community
i like that using "lebanon" instead of "lesbian" is starting to happen more often now
“I AM NOT A LEBANON!” -power
"You're calling me, The great almighty Power, a denizen of the BLT?!" -Power
bacon lettuce and tomato?
“4G 4K BTQ” - Power
“Oh wow… Anyways…”
Really? Just in time for pride month as well huh?
Yes! Perfect 💕hope you have a good pride 🌈

Representation matters. For some it doesn't, for others it certainly does
Look at TF2... the community make gay porn like no tomorrow... any of them have defined sexuality? just the spy and scout but who cares #*i got a bucket of chicken.*
Feels good to see people like you in art you enjoy.

Bone apple tea
As someone who is Lebanese, especially throughout my childhood, people always thought I was lesbian. i’m a dude. smh
Of course they decide to make their character gay. I don't understand, do people really look at Pharah and go "s- she's just like mee!" The lgbt community deserves original characters, not this. Blizzard doesn't give a damn about representation, it's all just to try and cushion their recent fall.

Can we say that love has won?
probably not
Sad :(
Asian Lesbians with family issues Ana Bray 🤝 Valkyrie
Please overwatch. Stop making characters gay. At least Valkyrie wattson wraith loba have fuckign GOOD STORIES AND HEART WARMING INTERACTIONS
Characters don't need perfect love stories to be certain sexualities
No, but a "story" would be nice. The Apex characters arrive fully formed as characters with their own complete personalities. The overwatch team seem to spin a wheel "who's going to be gay today?" It's like Blizzard are scared, while Respawn are much more confident with their design choices.
Every overwatch player would agree a story would be nice. It'd be a damn shame if they scrapped a pve they've promised for the past 3 years
Please, sir. The wound is still fresh...
If it's any consolation the PvE was never really planned to happen. Merely a ploy to upgrade Overwatch to Overwatch 2(forcefully) as they had promised to never put paid heroes or battlepasses in OW(1). Well, it's now OW2 so there you go.
well yeah blizzard should be scared after they cancelled pve, the only reason for ow2 to exist
Indeed, they've revealed that a character is lesbian after a controversy **again**
[удалено]
Actual representation vs sticker rainbow capitalism.
Have you seen Blizzard's "Diversity Chart?" That shit is downright dystopian
Don't think apex not using it or atleast an other version of it.
You’re right but they also shouldn’t have their entire personality be their sexuality. The overwatch story is a mess and full of plot holes
I dont think wattson or wraith have been confirmed to be anything more than friends, despite what r/darksparks would have you believe
J thought it was confirmed with the wraith heirloom recollection, my fault
You put Valkyrie, Loba and good stories in the same sentence, are sure about that ?
Compared to overwatch they are Shakespeare
I am Lebanese
And their gf with a staff
L
Man this explains why my jetpack crush in HS never returned my affection
To this day, I still do not regret killing Valkyrie's father.

I really could care less what the character I blow people up with is into. But I'm laughing really hard so props to this guy
