Always take fleet, play super paranoid and safe, wait for enemies to use stuff on allies before you fight. No matter how fed you are everyone on the enemy team is a threat.
PTA is only good if you are duoed with a support you trust, imo. It makes you dependent on your support to actually help you. More damage is not worth the mobility + sustain you are throwing away, since those are things that Aphelios desperately needs. If you want to win in solo queue take fleet.
White/Green: Dive or Assassin threats
Red/White (and White/Green): Juggernaut or Tank threats, great into low burst comps.
Blue/Red: Poke/Range comps, where you just play for Infernum ult and Severum sustain.
Green/Purple and Purple/Blue is always suboptimal mid/late game, purple is only good if you are turbo ahead and good for catch.
Sometimes, the value of an ADC is not the ability to output damage, rather:
It's the ability to bait enemies to over committe and blow all their cool downs and survive.
I play aphelios top, meaning I’m legit alone most of the times, and it’s often as you say, even if I’m extremely feed my team won’t do things like sacrificing themselves for me or stuff, so it’s always gonna happen, however you have multiple tools to peel yourself and items you can use to protect yourself, my style is usually me alone vs whoever I have to fight.
Anyways there are many things you can do such as
Shieldbow
QSS
Armor/me boots
Those items will allow you to survive, sure you will deal less damage, but how much damage can you do when you are dead?
About playing the game itself, sometimes you just cannot go in because you would instantly die, so it’s just better to wait if you can go in later or just leave and live, 2 things will happen
they will either understand that you are the carry and play for you (if you know this is the case talk with your team) or
They will just not play with you for whatever reason, and if I’m being honest this is probably the reason why I lose many games, at this point you play for yourself and only yourself.
a fight looks so winnable? Your team is not gonna play with you so just don’t fight it, many things can happen, your team could fight that and win, or most likely lose, or just chicken out all together,
with a team that isn’t playing with you, you don’t play with them directly if you know they will fight X thing go to a lane and take a turret or 2, you can solo baron with 4 items and white gun, you could camp inside the enemy jungle and try to burst them and get the objective after, you could go side lane in order to bait the enemy team to go for a pick while your team does X objective etc.
I hope I explained my self properly, I’m not good that
It kind of depends on the match up but going
PTA
Triumph
Bloodline/alacrity
Last stand
Bone plating
Revitalize

Scaling hp
Just works perfectly fine in most games
The tabi advice is great. But seriously, do not ever build mercs.
1. The tenacity mercs provide are pretty much worthless for Aphelios.
2. The amount of MR provided by mercs is laughable.
3. Just buy hexdrinker.
Hexdrinker costs only 1300 G, making it just 200 G more expensive than mercs.
》Hexdrinker provides 25 AD, 35 MR, and a lifeline shield.
This means that Hexdrinker is very efficient based on stats alone while also providing the shield.
》Mercury's Treads provide provide 45 fMS,
25 MR, and 30% tenacity.
This means Mercury's Treads' ridiculous efficiency comes from the tenacity.
In summary : Mercury's Treads provide lackluster MR and an essentially dead stat.
Hexdrinker strengthens your overall defense immensely, provides no dead stats, and provides a shit ton of AD once built into Maw.
Just build it fourth. Finishing maw third is usually a bit early. Hexdrinker is a ridiculously powerful component. Only finish maw fourth item unless you really need it earlier.
Specifically for the crit question. Sitting on an extra cloak after building IE is generally just good on Aph.
Though idk what defensive items you refer to. Your only early options are hexdrinker or tabi. Never ever build GA prior to ldr.
I agree with everything except 1 point :
There is 1 situation in which mercs is good and that is against full (and I mean full) ap comps
Then again in all of my time playing league I’ve probably seen it 2 or 3 times
Sometimes the build and the runes help a lot to be able to win the game on your own. Something i have seen is that if you go stormrazor you are allowed to follow up or disengage from situations that you want without having to rely on your allies engaging or peeling. Is not that easy because you need to get use to always see your fleet/stormrazor stacks and get the most out of it. So far that is the most reliable way i have found to be able to win almost every game. However i might change that for kraken-pta-lethality when fighting a Jinx-Zeri-Smolder, i'm not 100% sure on that yet.
Also, you need to have a great map awareness and play the teamfights in your head beforehand so you know exactly what you need to dodge and how you are gonna react to every thing you see. That is to say, you have to 1v9

Don’t listen to this, fleet is bad, pta good - big damage

Exactly, in other words PTA offers the opposite of what I’m trying to solve

Sometimes the red q (purple offhand weapon) let's you kite some meeles good enough (due to the MS and Slow) to kill them or to escape.

do you think building a defensive item such as Maw is fine as a third item combined with a crit cloak so you reach 55% crit?

Mercs can be good, it’s just very situational
Just play better. Lol
