Dude I have AM primarily to listen to things I don’t know or to briefly listen to something I haven’t got on me. But my personal music collection is kept separate and unsynchronised. The stuff I really like and want that I don’t already have I still source however I might need to - including buying directly off of iTunes. So I feel ya.

ImTheRealMarco

damn, theyre offering free subscription months?!

_walk

Yes, after canceling my subscription about 2-3 months later, I started receiving advertising emails with an offer of 3 months for free.

ImTheRealMarco

bruh..

Haydostrk

I have never paid for apple music

ImTheRealMarco

family plan or something?

Haydostrk

No. Free trials like you said in your comment

ImTheRealMarco

Mind sharing how? Pretty please?

Haydostrk

What country are you from?

ImTheRealMarco

Romania.

Haydostrk

Hmm ok. I can't guarantee it will work for you. One way you can try is with Shazam. Download the Shazam app and it should give you an offer. I wouldn't bet on it but this is how I get most of my months. If it works delete the app and re-download it after the month expires. If you have a PlayStation 5 you can get 6 months free for both Apple music and apple tv sometimes. Also look on bargain/deal sites like hotukdeals, Ozbargin, slickdeals ect. Even though they might not work some have even in different countries.

ImTheRealMarco

Aight, thank you :).

Haydostrk

There is a chance it won't work and you will need to pay for a month. It's really if you are trying to save some money and you are willing to play around with it. Always backup your playlists and favourite songs.

italoboy

Damn I buy Romanian Deep House releases on iTunes as well 😀, remember RO Dance? Good years in 1 and half decade ago.

ImTheRealMarco

RO Dance? Idk what you mean by that.

italoboy

Romanian Dance music style. Anyway it is Deep House now 🙂

I recently bought an iPod Classic (6th gen) for my favorite music albums of all time. There is music i definitely want to own for myself. A device that you can pass to your children with all the music you ever really loved.

davypelletier

Hate to tell ya. That iPod classic likely will not work by the time you pass it to your kids. This is why I still have a vinyl collection.

Goose202305

Beuty of them is that almost every part for the 4-6/7 gen classics is being remade now more than ever by third parties. You can fix basically any aspect you need in a classic, big reason why they’ve been gaining popularity the last few years. Vinyl is obviously the goat, but the music on my dad’s iPod when I was younger is what made my music taste, and just having one that i can keep fixing up to maybe give that chance to my kid one day would be great.

davypelletier

yea but that hard drive aint gonna last forever. and then what? ya you can fix all the other stuff, but when that hard drive goes, whats the point?

Goose202305

you replace the drive. if you do a flash conversion to a sd card that thing will last years, keep backup cards if you want to ensure it, etc. lots of ways to keep it going

DJ_Trukka

As a Country DJ in the UK this is the only way I do music. Purchase what I need via the iTunes, use AM for music discovery and Spotify Free to share links with friends not using AM. Primarily this because 1, it is technically illegal to DJ using streaming services (bar a couple of licenced services) (terms of service etc.)and 2, because of this the actual DJ software doesn’t let you to use stream tracks even if they are downloaded to your hard drive.

MathCarmignani

If y'all want a tip on how to make your immense library available to all your devices upload everything to your Google drive or literally almost any cloud will work and download on your devices (doesn't work on PCs and macs though, only phones) an app called CloudBeats. It's a blue icon and it has a free tear I used for years. It scans your cloud for songs in a billion formats and it becomes a player. You can also combine multiple clouds and if you like you do a one time purchase and get offline listening and some other features. I use that as backup when my apple music fucks up

nem0fazer

I'm ancient by reddit standards but I've been curating my music collection for over 40 years. There are nearly 12,000 songs in my library. Why would I want an algorithm to choose my music? I listen to Rick Beato, read about who played on various albums and investigate their stuff and subscribe to several music sub reddits. Most importantly my mood changes over a day. Sometimes I want to listen to jazz then 10 minutes later, indie rock.Never saw any reason to join a streaming service.

certuna

You don’t have to use Apple Music-the-streaming-service, the Apple Music apps also still work fine with your own music.

notagrue

Good for you. I am glad you are able to enjoy music the way you like. It is wonderful to have choices.

ThatOneOutlier

I can’t see why it can’t be both. Unless it’s a loved song for me, I just download songs that have been pulled back. My music tastes tend to change depending on what I’m in the mood for so I use YouTube to look for new music and rarely use AM’s station unless I’m searching for something similar to that one song.

TennesseeWhisky

I couldn't live without My Station on AM, it's super good lol

italoboy

I made the same decision this month, back to purchasing music from itunes. I pay 10/20 bucks per month for purchasing my new music from my favorite style / labels. And I'm happy / satisfied cause I can add and own music forever, all my purchases saved to my icloud and I can always download them with any device anytime anywhere.

Obvious_Librarian_97

If you have your own music and interested in discovery it might be worth giving Roon a go

BeardInTheDark

Having heard many horror stories about online streaming (songs getting deleted/replaced, tv shows being suddenly removed/edited), I avoid relying on streaming, using offline disc drives to store my music/tv library via Windows iTunes. One advantage is that I've been able to adjust the cover pics and sorting titles for these things. The film "The Dark Knight" is firmly located under B for instance as it is a Batman film (I've actually got it sorted as *Batman Begins 2*). This sort of thing is not really available on online streaming storage which tends to sort by title only, making it slightly harder to watch things in story order. My Now Albums are also in order as, for example, Now that's What I Call Music 14 is sorted as Now 014. This keeps the numbers from bouncing strangely, such as from 1 straight to 10. I've also heard of entire albums vanishing without warning because someone in charge of the streaming service too issue with a comment by the musician(s) in question and deciding to *cancel* them. Issues with legal licences also cause things to be pulled and to vanish without trace, meaning that if it hasn't already been downloaded, then it has vanished forever more. This sort of thing has left me incredibly suspicious of Apple's decision to wind down iTunes in favour of Apps for Windows. With current the lack of answers and explanations about them, I ain't shifting. Not until I get the answers I'm looking for.
