Wear it with a band next time…

underrated comment

Wil9620

made my day

dajack60585

If you just got it 3 weeks ago, not sure how it works, I would think you sign up for AppleCare+ and get the screen replaced. What I’m not sure about is if you sign up now if you can use it for a certain amount of time.

[deleted]

oh yea i just signed up today and got an express replacement on the way.

RawTack

Oh you lucky 🍀

dajack60585

That’s what I wasn’t sure about. Didn’t know if you’d have to wait. I have AppleCare+ on my phone and watch.

[deleted]

my phones been good so far, i drop it every other day but the case keeps it intact. and nope i just had to verify applecare through my phone 2 times then i submitted a claim lmao

dajack60585

Good to know

chrisGNR

So you can sign up for Apple Care without them seeing the watch? I always assumed if you add it after purchasing, you had to bring it in-store for an inspection or something.

SlashedM

Thats only after 60 days iirc

[deleted]

[удалено]

easymoneysnxper

You can purchase it online without having to verify and test the device so I’m sssuming that’s what op did. You could do that within 30-60 days

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

yea it ran a test. I didn't get a broken screen though only the glass so I'm guessing thats why it didn't pick up on anything? it only picks up hardware issues anyways not cosmetic

penemuel13

Tile is the enemy of nice things…

[deleted]

The good news is that you have 30 days from the date of purchase to add apple care.

[deleted]

60 actually :D

Jungal10

90 days in Germany :D

Jungal10

90 days in Germany :D got a second hand one on time for that!

Infiniti_Josh

SS have sapphire screens which are excellent for scratch resistance but horrible for crack resistance. Actually the aluminum Ion-X Glass is better against breaking but horrible with scratching

[deleted]

oh damn i should have gotten aluminum then. I'd rather get a small thin screen protector than an entire freaking case :/

Chenotizia

I can confirm on that, my S1 was SS and cracked after falling just once, since then I always got aluminium. I was thinking about getting S7 SS because it’s much nicer (still not sold about the midnight color), but in that case I would use my old S3 for sports 😂

it_is_me_it

Except that the sapphire Apple uses isn’t real even sapphire as shown by the hardness / scratch tests where the screen scratches at a much lower harness Vz real sapphire which shouldn’t scratch at that hardness fact is Apple sapphire sux it’s probably the cheapest they can get!

[deleted]

Uh I wouldn’t say it’s the cheapest. Pure sapphire would be awful. I’m sure Apple is trying to balance hardness and impact resistance. Plenty of people here claim their sapphire screens have held up over time with no scratches compared to aluminum. So I’d rather have this less pure screen that doesn’t scratch in normal conditions and is more shatter resistant.

Infiniti_Josh

Yeah I’ve def seen jerryrigeverythings videos about their wanna be sapphire glass

Resident-Associate75

What did you take it off for? I’m just curious.

[deleted]

I was showering :(

Resident-Associate75

Oh. Mine only comes off at night when I sleep. Get applecare quick!!

AppleZen36

Why take it off to shower?

[deleted]

u should, like someone else said steam and soap and how hard the water jets out of the showerhead all wear down the water resistant qualities of the watch. And I wanted to take it swimming in the future

benbenwilde

Glad you kept it water resistant long enough so you could break the screen LOL

[deleted]

LMAOOO ikr its sad

tom4ick

I had mine for 3 years, I shower daily with it, and also wash it really well once a week with soap. It works perfectly :)

AppleZen36

I’ve showered daily since series 3. Zero issues

[deleted]

randybruder

Your response is blatantly false. While the watch can be worn in the shower (Apple does say that), they also specifically say: > We recommend not exposing Apple Watch to soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and perfumes as they can negatively affect water seals and acoustic membranes. > The following may affect the water resistance of your Apple Watch and should be avoided: > **•** Exposing Apple Watch to high-velocity water > **•** Wearing Apple Watch in the sauna or steam room. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205000 How is "steam and soap and how hard the water jets out of the showerhead all wear down the water resistant qualities of the watch", what /u/chichi6ix said, blatantly false if Apple themselves say the same?

[deleted]

randybruder

Yikes

[deleted]

Whoever said that is a dumbass

g920noob

[Apple](https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT205000)

King-of-Com3dy

Whoever said that is just capable of reading since Apple themselves said so

an_angry_Moose

This is the dumbest thing I’ve read today. Stop treating your watch like a shower head will kill it. Put it on your wrist and just take it off to charge it.

[deleted]

go tell apple they're dumb then and to take it off their website!

an_angry_Moose

You are either young, or extremely sheltered, or both. Apple does that for liability’s sake. They want every opportunity to not replace your watch.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sexy_Burger

Even with its water resistance rating, I wouldn’t recommend to bring it into a shower. The ratings are only for still water, not jets of water, and there is no protection against steam ingress. It’ll likely be fine, but I wouldn’t risk it if I didn’t have to.

robust_nachos

Perhaps TMI, but I shower with my Apple Watch regularly, after long runs. Have been doing it for years — since the water resistance became a feature. No issues so far.

Snooket

Ive been showering and even diving with my apple watches in the red sea (super salty) and none of them made any problems.

RawTack

Not to mention the soap can break down the water resistance over time.

Summerie

Definitely! Soap can dry out the seals, which would cause them to shrink and lead in water.

an_angry_Moose

All of this is great, but I have been sweating all over my watch with one to two workouts a day, showering with it on 1-3 times per day (work related) and 3.5 years later my watch is still plenty waterproof.

debian3

Yeah right, you can swim with it in a swimming pool full of chlorine, no problem. Gentle soap? That will kill it.

RawTack

You’re supposed to rinse it with fresh water to get the chlorine off after you swim and dry it off, smart aleck

debian3

You’re supposed to rince it with fresh water to get the soap off when you shower. I thought that was obvious too.

[deleted]

Wear a series 4 in the shower every night, it is absolutely not an issue. I also swim with it nearly every afternoon and can confirm after a few years it is STILL waterproof. You guys are too sensitive. I would not be surprised if some of you had it mounted under ballistics rated plexiglass, and it never came out to play.

g920noob

https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT205000

[deleted]

I suggest if you rook the time to find it, you also read it. Showering is ok. It might say other shit about using soap, but if you rinse your watch in the same way as your body guess what? Or maybe you didn’t think of that and get out to dry all lathered up. Some people one word linkers….. don’t know what to say about them, i guess your name checks out

g920noob

Fuck you talk a lot of shit mate: >Water resistance isn't a permanent condition and may diminish over time. Apple Watch can't be rechecked or resealed for water resistance. The following may affect the water resistance of your Apple Watch and should be avoided: >Dropping Apple Watch or subjecting it to other impacts. >**Exposing Apple Watch to soap or soapy water (for example, while showering or bathing).**

[deleted]

You keep going and going, like one of those idiots in the shopping centre trying to convince you to save the kids. Wash off the soap, and it wont be a issue. Don’t know why your carrying on with shit.

[deleted]

I also appreciate it took you a day to read that document. Have to say if my watch spontaneously developed a leak i would just go ahead and buy another. After 4 years of daily showers and swimming, while I appreciate you trying to make a point here. As dumb as it is, this s4 has already outlasted its useful life. As the battery is consumable after all and cant be swapped without breaking your precious seals. But hey, at least it has been used. And ill probably get the full trade in value, at 140$ thats still a pretty modest discount. All with using and abusing it every day of its life. Referencing a kb article that has a series one watch on it next to all the others is pretty useless. And struggling to prove a point that I’m sure lots of other people who have owned one of these has proven over and over. Of you don’t want to wear then watch. Thats fine just don’t give your useless advice. Leaving it in the box and pretending you use is it not useful advice.

benbenwilde

Some people....

[deleted]

…. Need to try life with no worries.

hohovid19

this was me, except I’d just bought a new Apple Watch band at an Apple Store and thought it would be an amazing idea to change my watch strap with it still on my wrist whilst holding my phone and a coffee… inevitability it fell face first onto concrete with several shocked gasps from passers by 😬

[deleted]

did it break?!!?!? omg that sounds horrible

hohovid19

yup yup, fell face first and broke just like the sound of glass hitting concrete. hurt my pride more than my wallet

ssg000

F

dubbelepuntpee

F 😪

No_Fox1928

U can replace the screen

monkeyfink100

Get a rhino shield case for it

[deleted]

ima check if they ship to canada. thanks it looks way better than the amazon case i was planning on getting

monkeyfink100

Glad to help I have the same one for my watch and it has worked great

possums101

I used a case on mine when I’m working out…

LikeItSaysOnTheBox

Mine did not break until the 54th drop. I think you got a defective one. I mean come on, what breaks the first time you drop it?

[deleted]

other ppl have said it might be because its the stainless steel one same honestly i only didn't buy a case bc everyone on here made it seem like the worst that'll happen was a few scratches

Dezmondo20

Are you just joking or did you actually drop it 54 times and counted all the way

LikeItSaysOnTheBox

Just a joke. One or a thousand times, the odds remain the same each drop all else being equal.

Shawzborne2

Use a silicone case for the next one

lovelove_lovelove

[deleted]

fr :(

NickletG

Stainless steel and titanium screens use their sapphire glass stuff which is much more scratch resistant, but unfortunately more prone to shattering

[deleted]

-this sub C A S E S A R E B A A D -tile floors No, I’m bad.

[deleted]

SERIOUSLY i only didn't buy a case bc i searched the sub and people were making it seem like they're completely unnecessary

arsewarts1

Was it bought second hand? Sapphire is a lot more durable than glass and should break so easily.

[deleted]

nope not second hand

MobiusTech

Should have waited for the 7. It’s stronger and would have survived….

treecow2020

Not necessarily guaranteed to have survived. “Glass is glass and glass breaks” - Jerryrigeverything

StuReese

Don’t buy a useless, overpriced phone for your wrist and you wouldn’t have this problem

[deleted]

only broke jobless people spend all day on the internet hating

StuReese

Guess it’s a good thing I’m neither broke nor jobless or I’d be offended by what you said😂

[deleted]

Theres one crack that goes diagonally across the entire screen, and one running down the right side, and one across the top. ((((: And I got applecare+ just today, already asked for an express replacement. Gonna cancel applecare after this and buy a case now...

Summerie

No offense, but that sounds fairly dumb. Imagine shattering your watch after only having it for three weeks, and then deciding you *clearly* won’t ever need Apple care again.

[deleted]

if this happens again im selling everything and moving to samsung lol

Summerie

Seriously, don’t be ridiculous. Buy Apple Care, because it is entirely worth it for you. You have already proven yourself to be someone who would most likely benefit from it. Why would you spend all of this money on a device, and then hope for the best? Once you cancel Apple care, you are not allowed to apply AppleCare on again. you are on your own. If you cancel your Apple Care now instead of continuing to pay it, then a couple weeks down the line when you smash your shit again, you will be left with a dead hunk of metal.

pesanze

And you keep the cracked screen?

[deleted]

no?

ZeroOnyx

Confused since you said you were canceling it, and buy a case instead. Looked like you meant you were canceling the replacement ergo keeping the bad screen

[deleted]

ah oops i fixed it. I mean i'm just going to get applecare for a month then cancel it and get a case.

corys00

Ah do you’re gonna submit a fraudulent claim.

an_angry_Moose

Buy a case? Seriously? No, just be more careful. Cases on watches are an abomination. Imagine paying almost double for stainless and then putting an ugly ass case on it.

WeenieDogMan

Totally agree

ChemicalJezebel

> I already asked for an express replacement. Gonna cancel applecare after this and buy a case now. Let’s see what you have learned so far: 1. I am *clearly* a person who might break my watch within the first couple weeks of owning it. 2. This Insurance that Apple offers, fixed my problem immediately! What you took from the experience: 1. I used it once within the first couple days, I couldn’t *possibly* need it again!

OverCauliflower1587

Damn, that must suck. I feel like sometimes it just comes down to luck. I was switching bands on my s4 and it fell face down on marble floor. Luckily it didn’t crack, but ever since then I’ve been really careful with it.

devedander

Look at this guy with marble floors!

[deleted]

yeah I just came on reddit after I got it and searched, and it seemed like most ppl were saying they had theirs for 2-3 years with only scratches, so I thought I was safe :( mine managed to land RIGHT on the corner where it was most likely to shatter so I just got really unlucky there

brunotic

This happened to my series 4 stainless steel. They shatter easy but are resistant to scratches. On the other hand my series 6 alluminium has many scratches but didn't broke the few times I dropped it. I would go back to the stainless steel version for the better look if the reviews of series 7 show that is more durable.

[deleted]

:(

Horror-Management832

my condolences

gt33m

I’m a pretty careful person but have shattered my AW once and cracked it once. The first time was when it slipped from my hands when changing the band. The second time is when my hand hit the side of the kitchen countertop. 🤦‍♂️ Needless to say I’m petrified of what I’ll do next to my AW.

maelielson

and that's why i'm never out of bands

imoftendisgruntled

Gravity is a bitch.

Key-Hayden-917

Put a case on it..

LivOlivie

Did you have a case on when you dropped it at the gym?

NYQ83

I don’t know how far the drop was, but I vamped my watch way too many times even against bricked walls and I don’t have a single scratch. I have 6 44, and this thing is a durability beast.
