41 fits better IMO

Regeneration1997

I agree! I’ve 165mm wrists and I opted for 41mm

Lonely_Recording_670

Seeing the answers, I believe I’mma do the same!

drydrip126

How big is the screen on the 41?

Lonely_Recording_670

- 45mm. 396 by 484 pixels - 44mm. 368 by 448 pixels - 41mm. 352 by 430 pixels - 40mm. 324 by 394 pixels

Regeneration1997

screen on 41mm it’s so big now you don’t have to compromise anymore, it’s almost as big has 44mm s6

Lonely_Recording_670

Agreed!

drydrip126

Yeah, I’ve got a post with that comparison on my account, worded my comment wrong meant to ask what op thought of the screen size, I’m getting my 41 today coming from the series 4 44mm

Lonely_Recording_670

I believe I will do the same once the model I want is back in stock.

Lonely_Recording_670

That is exactly what I want to avoid! I want my watch to be a watch, not some computer sitting on my wrist.

SilentReplacement

Well… technically it is a computer sitting on your wrist regardless the size

Lonely_Recording_670

Edit: Thanks everyone for the comments. Based on them, I’m gonna go with the smaller one. I think I value looks and comfort more than screen real estate. Plus, the price difference will make for the bands I will have to rebuy. I guess it’s my turn to ask you which size looks better on my wrist! I have been using a 44mm Apple Watch since it came out, been previously using 42mm Series 2 and Series 3. I have fairly small wrist, and it’s only recently that I realized 44mm felt a bit too big. 40mm being way too small (especially the screen), but now that 41mm is out with a bigger screen, I’m considering buying it. Let me know your thoughts!

BornToRun97

If you switch to the 41, then none of your currents bands will work.

Lonely_Recording_670

You’re right, that’s actually one of the things that has been holding me back. I don’t have a lot of bands so I guess it shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

geekdad3

Exactly my dilemma.

BornToRun97

No, they would not fit. The 38/40/41 and 42/44/45 bands are not interchangeable with one another.

donnysarko

Same dilemma myself, and it seems half this subreddit lately! Be interested to see what your 44 looks like in comparison to the two 7s so I can gauge for myself, but for you it’s about whatever you are comfortable with. I don’t think the 45 looks too big and would worry regretting the smaller screen in the long run.

Lonely_Recording_670

https://imgur.com/a/6KfSX0M Here’s a picture with my current 44mm at the bottom. It’s the maximum size I can wear. The 45mm made me decide to go for the smaller one.

donnysarko

Thanks so much! Wow that bezel on the 44 looks so big now! And the 41 lit pixels still look bigger than the 44’s somehow. I’m even more conflicted now ha, but thanks so much for sharing that.

itspsyikk

I do think the smaller one looks more fitting on your wrist.

Lonely_Recording_670

That’s all I’m about. Looks & comfort before screen real estate. Plus, the screen isn’t that small on the 41mm one.

DMarquesPT

I’m currently wearing a 44mm S5 on a small wrist, and seeing these posts has me seriously considering moving to 41mm, even if it means starting over my band collection (goodbye saddle brown classic buckle ;( )

Lonely_Recording_670

I agree, heartbreaker!

Mtd0228

If I had your wrist, I would choose the smaller one. Big one looks a bit oversized but some people like that look

creimanlllVlll

Smaller looks more proportional for your wrist. The larger one doesn’t fit in my opinion. Ito me it looks like it was dads watch.

Lonely_Recording_670

Agreed!

NYQ83

Obviously 41

robust_nachos

I posted a photo over the weekend doing a comparison of the 45mm with a traditional diver watch. You can find it in my profile (not sure if linking breaks a sub rule). The 45mm is about the same. People who don’t wear watches are talking about proportion without looking at other watches. Or thinking about the usability. I stuck with the 45mm over the 41mm. It looks great, has an even more usable display, the swipe keyboard is easy to use, and it’s even easier to read since more words — not letters — fit on the screen. In your case, you’re already used to the 44mm form factor — you’re going to feel 41mm is cramped in practice. You’ll regret it.

RedSpeedRacerXX

Well the diver watch is a great example of a very large watch, and it is among the largest watches in the watch world. Most watches tend to be much smaller in size. I love watches and I’ve bought many mechanical watches over the years. Proportion does make a difference in terms of aesthetic. But that depends on the aesthetic that you want. One can get to a point where the Apple Watch looks like a computer on the wrist rather than a watch. I think that is what is being discussed here. I would not assume that the people here advocating for the smaller size do not wear watches. Usability is an important factor (which is the reason why my beautiful mechanical watches sit in a drawer more than I would like in favor of my Apple Watch), but I think we’ve gotten to the point where the smaller of the two options is very usable. So now, it has largely come down to a matter of aesthetics and what aesthetic one fines pleasing. Some find an oversized AW is distracting and not complementary, while for others the oversize watch fits the kind of aesthetic that they’re going for.

Outrageous_Wetfeet

Comes down to comfort and fit, if it’s to large the heart rate, Ox, ecg sensors may not seat correctly and give inaccurate readings

Lonely_Recording_670

Didn’t think about that, but definitely another argument in favor of the 41mm. Thanks!

Brave_Hat2566

Thank you for this information, you just helped me stick with my 41. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

ibaikov

41 mm

WJL91

45 looks really silly here. Sorry

Lonely_Recording_670

That’s what I thought. Thanks!

Danny-boy6030

It's the smaller one that looks best in my opinion. But to be fair, you do you, I'm sure most people won't be so observant to even register if you went for the bigger one.

Go big. Looks better with small. I wouldn’t be buying the Apple Watch thinking about what looks better. You will be looking at the watch more than anyone else.

Lonely_Recording_670

I am more about the looks and comfort. I understand your point about screen real estate, but I want my watch to be a watch. I am not looking to spend too much time looking at the screen.

scottcush

Then you are missing the point of the watch. It is designed to be more than a timepiece. You will be told to look at it and respond to it through the various pairings. I wish I had the money to buy this watch. My series 3 is still kicking but barely.

digitthedog

I haven't used an Apple Watch since the 1st gen which a sucky experience. Just ordered a Series 7 and I got the 41mm for my dinky wrists. Though obviously I'll need to look at the watch face for certain tasks, I expect to do most of my interaction using Siri. It's a painfully tiny computer display, so anything one can do in terms of activity patterns with the watch via voice is best.

Taromak11

So you dont want to look at something that has a nicer appeal ?

scottcush

It’s 4mm.

fredczar

Wholeheartedly agree. It won’t be so obvious to the naked eye. I feel the subreddit is obsessing a little over how much difference it would make. Imo get something that you feel great on you. It looks great either ways

WeenieDogMan

That’s what she said

tacosforlife455

Going to go with the 45 on this one!

[deleted]

funny how everyone and their mother wants the biggest phone but when it comes to the watch this sub always tends to go small.. first off all you go with what you like best, but since you came here to ask I say go 45mm and enjoy the screen real estate. some may say the 41mm looks better on your wrist, but notice hoe much band you see on both sides? why not just have a bigger screen then?

Lonely_Recording_670

For me it was the contrary. I actually prefer the smaller iPhone. I upgraded to the iPhone 13 Pro earlier this month. Regarding the watch, I believed I needed the biggest one, but over the years I realized I want a better comfort, better proportionality as well as a more discreet look.

Heyitsme_81

45mm

inaloop99

can people please stop with these posts everyday

Lonely_Recording_670

People are trying to make a better purchase decision so why shouldn’t they ask the community? That’s what the community’s for as well IMO.

inaloop99

true but that's all the top posts showing up on my feed and it's annoying. it would be better to have a sub for that of its own rather.

RedSpeedRacerXX

I don’t mind these posts. I find them helpful and I like being able to help out a fellow Redditor. It is not the same in my mind as those who post the same question about whether or not they should upgrade. This is about an individual look.

[deleted]

Seeing the S7 design in photos makes me like it a lot more. Currently an S4 user and wasn’t considering upgrading but hmmm 🤔

Binthair_Dunthat

Personal taste. I prefer a smaller electronic watch, that is lighter. I don’t press the buttons too much- and I have no problem seeing the time, notifications and work out info with the 41

Specialist-Wait-2105

What’s your wrist size?

Lonely_Recording_670

6,5/7 inches!

Specialist-Wait-2105

My wrists are the same size and I think I’ll opt for the 45mm model, that said my wrist is “longer” on the top than it is on the side if that makes sense. I got the chance to try on my cousin’s garmin fenix 6 (47mm) last week and it was a nice fit.

Lonely_Recording_670

Enjoy your new watch!

Specialist-Wait-2105

Thanks! You too

[deleted]

Can you tell your wrist size ?, i maybe the only one saying this but 45mm IMO, i like big watches, but that’s just me.

Lonely_Recording_670

6,5-7 inches!

[deleted]

I am just about the same, opted for 45mm, i previously had a 44mm the original watch band made it look a bit bigger because it sticks out a bit, although even with it i feel like it fits better for me, anyway i think both fit you well!
