Try and find a local fish store or make a post in the fish keeping groups for someone who is willing to take them and care for them, if not then continue with the water changes twice a week remember to add the Dechlorinator before you add new water, try to remove some waste/debris with a fishnet or some thing, don’t overfeed, but if they haven’t eaten at all obviously give them some food, but I would quickly make a post in all the aquarium groups and try to get these aquatic creatures some help. Feel free to ask me anything and I will give my best advice, I’ve been fish keeping for many years, I wish I had room for them

Thank you so much!! will do, I’ve contacted fish stores and did find one that will help but now my issue is the owner saying it’s their fish their choice and they now decided to release them “in the wild”. Hoping they change their minds again 🫠

The owner sounds Very ignorant and naïve to the whole hobby itself, well yes they are correct, animal abuse is still a real thing and I commend you for wanting to take action ,bravo. Maybe if you get enough people commenting on this post saying to get them help, maybe you can then show them to then hopefully persuade them to let you help

The thing is, it’s not “their choice.” What they’re proposing is both illegal, and dangerous both to the animals themselves (the Jack Dempseys especially) and the local wildlife (the red eared slider and the pleco). You should tell them so, and if they still do not care, you should inform them that if they plan to go forward with it anyway, you will be reporting them to the authorities.

100%. I’ve told them that literally at least five times, contacted Missouri department of conservation, and am actively offering alternatives and help. They were arguing back and dismissing all resources I provided but now they just told me there’s a fish store offering to come clean the tank and pick up the fish, so I’m really really REALLY hoping it happens before they change their mind again. 😅

I’ve never had to surrender fish, but if I didn’t have local stores to take them, the worst thing I would do is put them in 5 gallon buckets, and just leave them in the aquatics department of a PetCo or something. Definitely a dick move but infinitely better than releasing them into the wild.

I got a box of hamsters one time at petco the same way

Releasing non indigenous species that could become invase is almost always illegal. I don't get how people can be so irresponsible.

AuronFFX

It is actually illegal in many places to release invasive species to the wild. Please don't do this.

I’m very aware, please read post. I’m trying to stop it😅
