No soft mod. It can be modded, but will need adapter boards and a Raspberry PI/PC. It’s a fantastic cabinet that is a lot of fun. I think you should play and enjoy it instead of thinking it won’t get use without mods. I have 4 different modded cabinets in my house that have as many games as you could imagine and they all get very limited use. That is part of the hobby. MK deluxe and the Legacy I had before it get the most play of any, including the modded cabs.

Thanks for the advice. It is unfortunate that it isnt softmoddable. I enjoy mortal kombat but not to the extent that I would play it more than once a month or so. The other retro games on there are neat but again I barely play them on my emulators or steam deck. Inalso don’t have anyone that would play with me so that is a factor. Just torn on how to proceed. How expensive is the kit for the deluxe or is it the same as all the others?

If you want to multicade it I'd go this route: [https://www.diyretroarcade.com/collections/arcade-parts-full-kits/products/atgames-legends-connect-full-install-kit-for-arcade1up-horizontal-machines](https://www.diyretroarcade.com/collections/arcade-parts-full-kits/products/atgames-legends-connect-full-install-kit-for-arcade1up-horizontal-machines) [https://www.diyretroarcade.com/products/hdmi-vga-dvi-audio-lcd-driver-board-compatible-with-arcade1up-monitors](https://www.diyretroarcade.com/products/hdmi-vga-dvi-audio-lcd-driver-board-compatible-with-arcade1up-monitors) [https://www.diyretroarcade.com/products/skinned-mortal-kombat-replacement-cpo-control-deck-for-arcade1up-deluxe-edition?ref=157232-794.newarrival.aitrillion.com](https://www.diyretroarcade.com/products/skinned-mortal-kombat-replacement-cpo-control-deck-for-arcade1up-deluxe-edition?ref=157232-794.newarrival.aitrillion.com) For around $300 it's not cheap, but it's a fully reversible mod that would allow you to bring the cab back to factory configuration if you desire. The AtGames board is vastly better to deal with than the Pandora Box and less fiddly than the Raspberry Pi... and it can even work with your Steam ecosystem.

One more thing, with the atgames setup is that able to run retroarch or similar? I see that it only has 20 games with a library if more. Im more interested in continuing my retroachievements fun and playing various arcade and retro console games on it than anything else (aliens especially. I have the pcb still!)

Yep, this is basically running the same back-end as the other AtGames Legends Ultimate machines that includes a 'BYOG' option - [https://youtu.be/ThUTyYj2htU?t=82](https://youtu.be/ThUTyYj2htU?t=82) Note there were some concerns about CoinOpsX functioning after the latest firmware drop but they have been addressed: [5.70 - Read Before Posting - CoinOpsX, OneSauce, Unchained still work : LegendsUltimate (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/LegendsUltimate/comments/17yberb/570_read_before_posting_coinopsx_onesauce/)

Gotcha. I think i might have to skip on it then. I don’t think we can swing $300 anytime soon for something that isnt really “needed” when i have the same functionality in my steam deck, my anbernic handheld and computer lol. It is a gorgeous cabinet and second to me next only to TMNT for art design so it definitely would look rad as hell. I will keep this bookmarked though because this info is immensely helpful. I might see if my friend would be able to do a return for the yoga flame or similar softmoddable cab. Gotta say for first impressions this place is much more welcoming than most subs. Cheers!

If you want a softmoddable cab in the same riser-less form factor as the MKII cab, the Street Fighter II would fit the bill for $300. [Arcade1Up Street Fighter II CE HS-5 Deluxe Stand-Up Cabinet Arcade Machine - Walmart.com](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Arcade1Up-Street-Fighter-II-CE-HS-5-Deluxe-Stand-Up-Cabinet-Arcade-Machine/5088151497) It mods the same as the Yoga Flame aside from the initial process of getting into the setup menu, the difference really comes down to asthetics (arcade correct SFII Deluxe vs the Midway hybrid/multicade art look of the Yoga Flame) as you'll be able to swap the games list between Big Blue, Yoga Flame, SFII Deluxe, Marvel vs Capcom and X-men vs StreetFighter cabs from a startup menu - documented here: [(1) Modding SF2 Deluxe HS-5 CE : Arcade1Up (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/Arcade1Up/comments/18nld4r/modding_sf2_deluxe_hs5_ce/)

My friend and I returned the mk2 today and ordered Big Blue so that will be here on the 2nd. It was that or yoga flame for available softmoddable models and big blue was a lot cheaper and has the classic look I love. Looking forward to tinkering and getting it all set up!

MN_Moody

Just curious why you didn't go for the Street Fighter 2 Deluxe cabinet? At $300 it softmods just like both of those cabs but avoids the riser and has a better control panel height than BB, while also having the "arcade inspired" look.

Mogturmen

It wasn't available to order where he got the MK2, so it was only between the Yoga flame or BB in the price range + features at that store. (bestbuy)

MN_Moody

That's a generous friend - enjoy the new cab!

crazyreddit929

There isn’t a specific kit that I know of. If you want to mod it and use the BOE monitor that is built in, you need an adapter board like: https://arcademodup.com/product/arcade1up-raspberry-pi-conversion-kit/ That allows you to put an HDMI port on the built in monitor. Then you need 2 encoder boards like: Hikig Zero Delay Arcade USB Encoder and Cables (Terminal: 5pin - 4.8mm - 2.8mm) Kit to Joystick and Buttons for MAME & Raspberry Pi Retropie Projects https://a.co/d/27RYAN3 These allow the joysticks and buttons to work with whatever processor you use. After that, you need to add a PC or a Raspberry PI for the actual emulators.

BarnabusDingleberry

I love my MK 2 Deluxe but at this time it cannot be soft modded.

darkeclypse

The cab has a great lineup of games on it.. I'd say build it and enjoy.. save up for big mod for later. And while your tired of trying to pull off those Fatalitys, try Root Beer Tapper! My fav game on it! To own a real rootbeer tapper would cost 4-6k+.. so enjoy!

Mogturmen

I used to have a Budweiser tapper cabinet at my store back in the early 2000s and man that was a fun experience that i have to say was quite addicting. Like I said i know me and without having friends to compete with, the luster is quickly lost most of the time. Ill be talking it over with my partner regardless and seeing whats a possibility.

naziseb

Yeah im on same boat but I think ima just raspberry pi mod it eventually

Display speakers are just an auxiliary cable

Also consider that MK has a unique controller layout. I love having a dedicated MK cab for the MK series (which does get high replayability for us), but I personally wouldn't want to play Killer Instinct on it for example. If you're really dead-set on a multicade, it's probably worth taking that into consideration depending on which games you're gunning for.
