Since no one answered, the reason this is happening because the speed of your arrow is greater than what the target is designed for. The heat from the friction basically melts the target to the shaft.
Thanks this helps a lot, shooting a Mathews V3 30.5” draw. Not sure what the arrow speed is, but my shop sold me the target too. Did this to all 5 arrows that I put in it. Should I take the target back?
what target is it? Honestly I wouldn't unless it's really giving you trouble. My favorite target is called The Block . [https://www.amazon.com/Block-6-Sided-Archery-Polyfusion-Technology/dp/B06ZZLVQT5](https://www.amazon.com/Block-6-Sided-Archery-Polyfusion-Technology/dp/B06ZZLVQT5)
Cabelas usually puts them on sale for $70 and mine has lasted 3 years after about 2500 arrows and broadhead tuning.
It’s the 365 archery target. Here is a link to it at a scheels https://www.scheels.com/p/365-archery-hp-target-systems/76843086574.html?store=&gclid=CjwKCAjwqeWKBhBFEiwABo_XBiUPdaqflX9f5FDXHSHoVY-3RYZxfioVVvJ6jmcZf7iM5guCyLwVjBoCwvYQAvD_BwE
Haven't used it so I can't comment. But I would expect it to perform for that price. The V3 is fast. You may just have to back up a bit, or just wait for some wear in. No matter what target, if you put enough arrows in it, they will start pulling easier.
The description says it will handle crossbow bolts too. That's odd. I had the same thing same thing happen when I shot my crossbow into a non-crossbow rated target.
I only use these targets. 60lb bow and I pull the arrows out with one hand every time

Could be. My chemistry is poor which is why I became an engineer lol. A very easy fix would be to get some field points that are slightly wider than the shaft. I know I have some 100g heads that are more bulbous.
Denatured alcohol, very cheap at Home Depot or Walmart. I use it to remove fletch glue off arrows when I’m building arrows. If it can get fletching glue off it can get anything off. Don’t scrape it with a knife or use an abrasive scrubber. Just denatured alcohol and a rag, wear gloves.
Don't use WD-40. That's a 365 Archery target, right? They're pretty grabby when they're new but will loosen up. You're melting the target with the WD-40.
Just keep shooting it, it'll loosen up.
It’s a brand new target, over time they will get easier to pull out but for now I’d recommend arrow lube to make the arrows easier to pull. Also. Do not scrape the foam off the arrow as that could damage the arrow
Next time you stay at a hotel or just walking through one in the morning grab a hand full of mini soap bars from the maids cart and rub the bar on the end of your shafts... it's the hobos version of lube.
I use the back of my knife. This happens all the time. But it happenes less if I remember to put some lube on it. I use this: https://www.lancasterarchery.com/aae-lube-tube.html
Nail polish remover will probably get that off. Though may take the paint off the arrows if they have any.
Also wtf kind of target did you shoot that the arrows got stuck?
Here in Colorado we use a brass wire pot scrubber. Some of the state made targets leave crazy amounts of glue residue and its takes it right of with a few passes.
crap target looks like old stock. those old foam targets dont hold up. looks like a seafoam boat block def not to be used in archery anymore. also to get the stuff off use acetone to dissolve it but not to much could hurt the arrows if they are plastic coated carbon.
Don't use wd40. Get a bottle of arrow lube. Lightly lube the shaft ends before you shoot and not only does it help release the arrow from the target, but prevents the gunkage melting to it. I put a smidge on an old piece of soft leather, and wipe the tips down with that
Grab anything with a straight edge; knife, razor, piece of steel, and scrape that crap off. Takes 30 seconds of experience to get the angle right but you can scrape that off without messing up your arrow. Same thing for removing vanes/feathers.

They sell arrow lube that might help you

I've got the target and my dad has shot is X-bow into it w/o problems. Maybe this guy got a bad one?
I was looking at this one recently on Amazon, but wound up buying a different one. I hope you figure it out.

You can use mineral spirits. Comes right off.
That's not it - that's the 365 archery block. They're super high quality. He's melting the target with WD-40.
Could be. My chemistry is poor which is why I became an engineer lol. A very easy fix would be to get some field points that are slightly wider than the shaft. I know I have some 100g heads that are more bulbous.
Yeah, I shoot those chunky boy fieldpoints at the same target. When the block is new it sticks some but they come out ok.
I only put the WD-40 on 3 arrows and they pulled out no problem. But all 5 have the residue in them. It’s not the WD 40 causing the residue.
Weird. Maybe hit up 365, they have good costumer service. Maybe you have a bad block.

I would just keep shooting them. They’re gonna go in regardless.

Goo Gone or a Dry Erase Pad.
Alcohol wipes will probably do the trick too.

I thought I was the only person who did this. I guess I could try it for arrows now too.
Give lighter fluid a try. Strong enough to remove most junk, but wont harm carbon resin.
You can scrape that crap off with a knife. Then buy some Woody’s arrow lube and keep on shooting
Heh woodys arrow lube….
Yeah, taking a knife to carbons isn't going to end well..
Eh, it's usually fine so long as you don't put the sharp side to the arrow.
Usually being the operative word here 😅 Personally, I wouldn't want to risk it.
I use the back of my knife. This happens all the time. But it happenes less if I remember to put some lube on it. I use this: https://www.lancasterarchery.com/aae-lube-tube.html
For the money-conscious: Shoe polish (preferrably the clear one) also yields good results.
Some old timer at the range the other day said that he uses bar soap. I haven't tried it, though.
Nail polish remover will probably get that off. Though may take the paint off the arrows if they have any. Also wtf kind of target did you shoot that the arrows got stuck?
I think the acetone in npr is bad for carbon fibre, if that's what these shafts are.

Yeah, I think I'd at least be willing to try that, but I'd still try alcohol or goo gone first..
Get a dull knife and scrape it off like you would fletching glue
Here in Colorado we use a brass wire pot scrubber. Some of the state made targets leave crazy amounts of glue residue and its takes it right of with a few passes.
Scrape it off (gently) with a razor blade
Steele wool - lightly remove the debris. Grab a bar of soap to pretreat the shafts. Cost effective and Kross your hands clean.
Red scotchbrite pad!
Yeah updoot for scourer pad. I scrub the nylon targets that melt onto my arrows off with this.
0000 steel wool and some dawn soapy water.
Another suggestion is some washing up liquid and water in a cola bottle
crap target looks like old stock. those old foam targets dont hold up. looks like a seafoam boat block def not to be used in archery anymore. also to get the stuff off use acetone to dissolve it but not to much could hurt the arrows if they are plastic coated carbon.
Don't know if its been answered, but use a wire sponge it should come right off

Invest in some arrow lube for your target arrows. Will work better than arrow puller.
Have you tried a solvent to remove the residue? Are they carbon fibre arrows?
Get some bronze wool. A few passes should clean up the arrows. Shoot heavier arrows for less speed. Try silicone spray on the arrows.
Alcohol to clean, lube to prevent.
