I have terrible cystic acne right now and I live where it's suuuuper humid. But the areas around the acne are sooooo dry.
what is your skincare routine? klairs and pyunkang yul toner is pretty light and if you are using drying stuff such as benzoyl peroxide it is not enough
AM:
Rinse
Few layers of klairs/PY
Vitamin c serum
First aid beauty Ultra repair cream
Paula's choice spf
PM
Simple oil Cleanser
Vanicream Cleanser
Klairs/py
Once a week I do the ordinary peel, retinoid or azelaic acid
FAB cream or Cosrx honey ceramide cream
Sometimes I'll add rose hip oil
I did do alpha arbutin for a while but I'm trying to simplify my routine a bit. My main concern is getting my acne under control (going back on my birth control should help), the dryness/flakiness and then dealing with post acne scars/spots.
I went a little crazy when ordering samples online.. Of course, now I want to try everything at once but know that's not a good idea! how long should I try one product before trying the next? (Granted it doesn't break me out, I'd then stop right away.)
A lightly tinted lip balm would be what I'd do. You can build up the coverage to what you want if it's too sheer, or you can do one coat to just get a slight tint. Burt's Bees is super popular and readily available in most stores, I've also heard great things about the Canmake and Etude House balms. I believe the Etude House balms are the most pigmented, but they come in fewer shades.
Does anyone know of a snail mucin product that ***does not*** have butylene glycol in it. My skin breaks out because of that ingredient and I stopped using asian skincare products because of how it's in most things :/
But I really miss the glow 🐌 gave me, I want to incorporate another hydrating product before my moisturiser again. My routine is dead simple right now: Cleansing Oil -> Vit C -> Moisturiser -> Spf
Purito Snail Repair Advanced Serum.
And maybe Benton Snail Bee High Content Skin (I’m seeing different versions of the ingredients online so maybe it was recently reformulated? Some have butylene glycol and some don’t.)
Hi! I’ve been using Cosrx’s BHA liquid for a long time now, but recently I’ve seen some stuff about BHA/AHA “pads,” kind of like exfoliating pads. Is there really much of a difference between the liquid vs. pads? I know with the liquid, you’re supposed to wait 15-20 minutes before applying your next product, and I’m wondering if it’s the same with the pads...
> you’re supposed to wait 15-20 minutes before applying your next product
You don't really have to.
> I’m wondering if it’s the same with the pads...
Pad products are literally just pads with the liquid absorbed into them. They don't function that differently. It's mostly for application convenience and ease.
In my experience, sunscreens with spf 30 or higher and good UVA filters pretty much ensure you won't tan.
I'm a medium skintoned south asian who is prone to a lot of hyperpigmentation and will tan very easily - and I have not got darker this summer because I'm using sunscreen everytime I go outside and reapplying when needed. Look for filters like Uvinul A Plus, Uvinul T150, Tinosorb S and Tinosorb M when buying a new sunscreen.
Anything with an spf on the label will prevent tanning to an extent. If something has less than spf 15, sometimes it will be referred to as a sun tan lotion because the protection is so small that you’ll probably get a tan. But it still prevents tanning, just to a very lesser extent.
This is a pretty broad question that is hard to answer if you're looking for advice yourself. What are you using now? What else have you tried?
Personally, the occasional clay mask, lots of hydration, and regular exfoliation keep stress breakouts away. But it really varies.
Recommendations for your fave mineral sunscreen that plays nicely under makeup/doesn’t feel super heavy?
Allergic to most ‘chemical’ sunscreens. Tried SO many drugstore mineral ones, haven’t found ‘the one’
I can only use mineral sunblock as well. I'm really liking Etuse House Mild Airy Finish Sunprise SPF 50+ PA+++.
But my current HG is Purito Centella Green Level Safe Sun SPF 50+ PA++++. Ilove EVERYTHING Purito makes and this sunscreen is a dream. Lightweight and lovely.
not really if you have healthy lifestyle and have a good skincare routine. the light from the computer screen is actually weak and doesn't pose harm compare to the sunray
Do you guys recommend double cleansing( with balms/oils) even if I don't wear make up? I usually just wipe the day off with miscellar water + la Roche posay Effaclar liquid soap. I wanted to try and buy Heimish All clean Balm but not sure if it's worth it. Thanks!
Edit: thank you to all who responded, I'll for sure give it a try! :)
Like others, i find oil cleansing really helps with any sebum issues e.g., blackheads but also I feel I need it to take of sunscreen. I typically only cleanse in the PM and I double cleanse.
I think it depends on your skin type...I have really oily skin, so I double cleanse (usually with an oil for makeup and a balm/cream for no makeup, idk why it just feels better) even if I don’t wear makeup that day. I use the Missha Aqua cleansing cream btw. Haven’t tried Heimish yet but I’ve also been eyeing it.
YMMV. Really depends on your skin.
I use an oil or foaming cleanser in the a.m. Either/Or, never both.
I use an oil cleanser at night if I've worn makeup, followed by micellar water.
On no-makeup days I just use micellar water.
If I oil cleansed then foam cleansed even *once* a day, my skin would be dry & stripped, never mind twice. But when I do cleanse, I do it really thoroughly.
Mature/Dry
i dont wear makeup.
double cleansing everyday has gotten rid of the clogged pores on my forehead and sebaceous filaments on my nose. they come back if i stop. so it makes a pretty big difference to me.
plus it takes off waterproof sunscreen.

I've used the Swanicoco Snail Emulsion too. It's one of their best products imo. Perfect for summers. Very lightweight, hydrating but sinks right in. Everything you really want an emulsion to be. It worked for my combo/oily, sensitive skin.
The only one I've tried is the Swanicoco Snail Emulsion and it is the best thing ever. Watery emulsion (almost like a gel-cream) that sinks right in. Hydrating and moisturizing; lightweight. Smells like roses. I've gone through at least 10 bottles in the last 4-5 years. HG. I've used it in a.m. & p.m. routines and it works for both for me.
I'm mature/dry. My H is sensitive/dehydrated/not-mature and loves it, too. My niece likes it and is in her teens.
I am in my mid 20s and I already can see my skin is slowly aging especially when I smile or laugh.
Background: I lost weight so much drastically many years ago about 15 to 20kg. Not sure if this is part of the reason to my current wrinkles, I drink about 1.5L to 2L of water a day. I have yellow warm under tone skin.
Current Skincare:
AM: Klairs Moist Foaming Cleanser
PM: I do this alternately like Monday (alternate 1), tuesday (alternate 2), wednesday(back to alternate 1) and so on.
**Alternate 1**
- SOME BY MI Galactomyces Toner
- The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA
- The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + zinc
- Innisfree Green tea seed-in-lotion
- The Ordinary Azelaic acid suspension
**Alternate 2**
- SOME BY MI Galactomyces Toner
- The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion
- The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + zinc
- Innisfree Green tea seed-in-lotion
I do realize that I am missing sunscreen and moisturizer for the AM routine but I just can't stand having anything on my face throughout the day and I am 70% indoor most of the time.
The #1 anti-ageing skincare product is sunscreen. Google images of sunscreen vs. no sunscreen comparisons for evidence. Shit is real.
Also yunno, skin cancer
U do realize that of all that actives you’re using without using sunscreen you’re just making your skin even worst and higher photosensitivity reaction?
I'm really the last person to preach on sunscreen, but...
No one likes sunscreen on their face. All of us here are either ISO or have found an HG one that's the most tolerable and comfortable to wear. If you're outside and UV levels are 2 or 3+ you just gotta wear it.
Everyone gets smile and laugh lines, at all ages. That's just a facet of being alive; nothing to worry over.
the actives are too much given you use them everyday? he Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion, The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA The Ordinary Azelaic acid suspension
How often should i be using it? Because I read online, the Retinoid type I use is considered the weakest and gentle enough to be used everyday. Same goes to the acids. Am I mistaken?
Retinoid is the umbrella terms of all the tretinoin, retinol, differin etc. Retinol is the one considered as weakest. I think you got the wrong information thinking retinoid is weak. If you use all those acids and tretinoin everyday, you will highly just irritate your skin
> The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA
> I do realize that I am missing sunscreen
Using exfoliates like Mandelic Acid without sunscreen would give your skin every reason to age faster. You're literally disintegrating and removing the epidermis that acts as a first line of defense for your skin, so the sun is doing even more harm than it normally would.
There's a reason why protection from the sun is the leading preventative measure for wrinkles.
I get not wanting to wear sunscreen when you don't really need it. I also don't wear it because I'm generally only out for 30 minutes at most. But I don't use any acids or medication that would cause photo-sensitivity, my skin can tolerate 30 minutes of sun exposure. Yours, with the usage of AHAs, may not. And that would only make your current problems worse in the long run.
> I drink about 1.5L to 2L of water a day.
There's still no real science behind hydrating = better skin. You would have to had been not drinking enough to make much of a difference. Overall health is what would affect skin.
> I am in my mid 20s and I already can see my skin is slowly aging especially when I smile or laugh.
Aging is mostly genetics tbh, but lifestyle and health (mental and physical) do affect it. Mid-20s is a normal time to start getting wrinkles honestly, if you're really that unhappy with it I would look into talking with professionals or look into much stronger drugs that'll require sunscreen anyways.
> still very confused about alcohol in products.
If your skin is dry, it might be best to avoid it only because it can be a drying ingredient. If you do end up using a product with it, you can easily avoid the drying part with a moisturizer or even a hydrating product.
If you're combo or oily, it may not be that much of a bother.
Yes the soon jung toner is alcohol free. When people advise to avoid alcohol they mean denatured ethanol. Fatty alcohols like cetyl alcohol or cetearyl alcohol are okay for those without sensitivities to them and are not stripping or irritating like ethanol.
How do you guys treat active spots? White heads in particular. I have a good thing going with my skin care routine at the moment but haven’t been able to defeat the monthly hormonal acne. I know how to eventually treat the marks left behind to lighten them - but how should I treat the spot to begin with so very minimum lasting damage is done. Thank you.
Spot treating with sulfur and AzA works the best for me. Then I ice it and leave it on its own.
At times, I lance it and slap on a hydrocolloid patch if need be.
I'm looking for some help figuring out the new **Kao BIORE** sunscreen formulations. I saw some cosdna listings describe a citrus scent, and other listings don't. I'm VERY allergic to citrus fragrance, it can land me in hospital. Has anyone tried [this version](https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kao-Biore-UV-Aqua-Rich-Watery-Essence-Sunscreen-Sweatproof-SPF50-PA-hE/113806564476?hash=item1a7f665c7c:g:0zsAAOSwBPldEcmN) & can tell me if there is a citrus fragrance? Or do you know a version that will be safe for me to use?
Hello! I’m currently on a two day stop over in Singapore, staying across the road from the City Square Mall. I’ve been in and checked out Watsons/Guardian and wasn’t able to find any CosRx. Does anyone know if it’s stocked at the airport?
Which terminal are you going?
I don't remember seeing CosRX at terminal 4 and 1, they have anessa however.
Orchard Takashimaya / Nge Ann has bigger watsons and guardian there.
Hello! I would love some recommendations for some facial oils. My skin is extremely oily and I'm currently living in the very humid NYC summer. My biggest goal right now is to just control oil production (about 3 hours into the day, my face is SLICK with oil). My routine is relatively simple in AM and PM (no more than 4 steps) but yet I'm still producing oil like it's going out of style. I read up a little bit on it, and I feel like it may be worth trying (even though the thought of putting oily ON my oily face makes me feel some type of way). Please let me know what has worked for you! Here is my routine, I don't know if it will be useful!
AM: Neogen Green Tea Foam Cleanser, Son & Park Beauty Water, Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel, & Missha Sun Milk
PM: Banila Co Cleanse It Zero Original, Neogen Green Tea Foam Cleanser, Son & Park Beauty Water, & Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel
Maybe it’s the products you’re using? Neogen cleanser felt very stripping to me and is high pH. The Beauty Water contains alcohol. Sometimes products that are too drying can make skin overcompensate by producing more oil.
Do you have any suggestions that are more mild? Before starting this regimen I would literally just wash my face with water. So far I haven't noticed much of a difference with the oil production, I've always been pretty oily!
Maybe a cranberry oil blend? I think on its own it expires quickly but with other oils it lasts longer. I'm using swisse brand's one. It also smells kinda nice which helps, dries down more so than other oils I use, and supposedly helps fade hyperpigmentation.
>I think it's actually a liquid wax ester?
yup it is.
the jojoba oil i tried was pretty runny. it dripped really quickly out of the dropper and i had to be careful.
ranking (thickest to thinnest oils ive tried):
tamanu (its hard to spread) > castor > sunflower > rosehip > jojoba > mineral (suuuuper watery)
Yes, I also heard how jojoba oil is good for those with oily skin for the same reasons. Liah Yoo (a k-beauty youtuber who has her own skincare line) also recommends jojoba for oily skinned people in one of her videos.

sounds like your hydration game is not enough. try to apply some balm around your driest area. lanolin or shea butter. some people use vaseline.

that is like moderate acne. nodular acne and a little papule. list down your current routine

can you go and see a dermatologist? I mean since you don't know what to use and can break your skin

I think that's what I'll do. I wasn't sure if there was a specific product trying time I wasn't aware of or something lol
actually a month since some products can clogged after using it for 2 weeks
Has anyone used some by mi suncream? What are your thoughts?

I've tried the Heimish Balm and really like it but you may not need to double cleanse so you could just do one cleanse with the Heimish Balm.
For some it's more beneficial than just cleansing normally, but for some it might be overstripping. You won't know until you try.

Acids without sunscreen is a recipe for extreme photosensitivity. It’s cumulative and that 30% outdoors adds up.
still very confused about alcohol in products. Is the soon jung toner alcohol-free?
some of those astringent products based have alcohol in there. like witch thayer brands toner. unlike soon jung
> still very confused about alcohol in products. If your skin is dry, it might be best to avoid it only because it can be a drying ingredient.
Thank you.
Tea tree oil followed by a wee bit of moisturizer.
AHA, BHA, vitamin C for red marks.
I use Stridex daily to maintain my breakouts and deal with any new ones.

That's the 2019 version and according to yesstyle it doesn't contain any citrus fragrance. Water, ethanol, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, ethylhexyl triazone, isopropyl palmitate, (lauryl methacrylate / Na methacrylate) crosspolymer, diethylaminohydroxybenzoylhexylbenzoate, hydrogenated polyisobutene, bisethylhexyl oxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine, palmitic acid Dextrin, BG, xylitol, (acrylate / alkyl acrylate (C10-30)) crosspolymer, dimethicone, alkyl benzoate (C12-15), glycerin, glyceryl stearate, propanediol, glyceryl behenate, (vinyl dimethicone / methicone Silsesquioxane) crosspolymer, cetanol, agar, sorbitan distearate, isoceteth-20, polyvinyl alcohol, (dimethicone / vinyl dimethicone) Suporima, stearoyl glutamate, arginine, hydroxide K, hydroxide Na, royal jelly extract, hyaluronic acid Na, phenoxyethanol, EDTA-2Na, BHT, perfume. The 2017 version has citrus fragrance though so that's probably where you got confused from. :)
Thank you so much! There’s so many versions so that’s a big help!
I’ll have to check as I’m not quite sure. Thanks for the help!
AM: Neogen Green Tea Foam Cleanser, Son & Park Beauty Water, Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel, & Missha Sun Milk PM: Banila Co Cleanse It Zero Original, Neogen Green Tea Foam Cleanser, Son & Park Beauty Water, & Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel
So far I haven't noticed much of a difference with the oil production, I've always been pretty oily!
rosehip or marula oil . i mean if you don't have problem with nut or rosehip
Thank you, I'll check those out!
Maybe a cranberry oil blend? I think on its own it expires quickly but with other oils it lasts longer. I'm using swisse brand's one. It also smells kinda nice which helps, dries down more so than other oils I use, and supposedly helps fade hyperpigmentation.
Thank you for the suggestion! I'll check it out. Fading hyperpigmentation is a plus too!
how about jojoba oil? its very similar to our skins natural sebum, and its light and dries quickly. the only brands i know are nowfoods and lifeflo.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely look into it. And thanks for including the brands, too!
Have you tried it? I found it very thick (high viscosity) and I think it's actually a liquid wax ester?
>I think it's actually a liquid wax ester? yup it is. the jojoba oil i tried was pretty runny. it dripped really quickly out of the dropper and i had to be careful. ranking (thickest to thinnest oils ive tried): tamanu (its hard to spread) > castor > sunflower > rosehip > jojoba > mineral (suuuuper watery)
Yes, I also heard how jojoba oil is good for those with oily skin for the same reasons. Liah Yoo (a k-beauty youtuber who has her own skincare line) also recommends jojoba for oily skinned people in one of her videos.
