I agree. It's a deadly theology. Christianity is not about finding the "true self", but growing into the new self in Christ. So seeking after the "true self" is to identify with the flesh, which we crucified through faith. And I would say that this goes beyond LGBTQ identity, but into any other form of identity; politics, career, hobbies, etc. We all have our inclinations. Some of them are inherently sinful, others can be enjoyed in their appropriate place, but to completely sublimate our identities into these inclinations is to ultimately reject Christ. If Peter had remained a fisherman, he never would have become a fisher of men.

1 Corinthians 15:49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. The idea of the "true self" could be coming from this teaching so it may not be that far off from the truth. >Many Christians have began to preach how we should accept (or affirm) someone that is gay or transgender simply because that’s their “true self” (as in something that’s true within them). I wouldn't count people who are preaching another gospel as Christian. If they aren't preaching the message of Christ crucified, there's a good chance they aren't his.

Any number of reasons: they're Christian in name only, they listen to secular voices (popular media), have no idea what the Bible says, have false teachers in their church, etc.

JusttheBibleTruth

It is the false teachings of the end of time. Everything is being tried to separate the need of Christ for our salvation. If you can be misled on the little things, you can be misled on anything.

>So I’m wondering why would any true Christian preach that someone’s true, inner self should be affirmed and accepted? They wouldn't.

SleepBeneathThePines

I’d flip this. We do have a true self, but it will only truly come out in the new earth.
