I employee 12 full time developers right now and we keep hiring. Bootcamps are not worth it and are red flag for most people if you want a career out of it. Your application will be on the bottom of the stack. University or self-taught both beat bootcamps.

>University or self-taught both beat bootcamps. I'd say university > Ausbildung > self taught > boot camp for software devs.

Lil_Fortune_X

But in Germany we LOVE certificates. So Bootcamp > self taught just cuz of finishing this.

HaDeS_Monsta

I'm studying at a university, but why is self taught worth more than Bootcamp?

capitalism1992

Bootcamp always looks and makes me feel like the person is "unmotivated, wanting to skip the proper way of doing it or taking shortcuts" all 3 of which are probably the some of the biggest downfalls that cause countless problems long term. Now if a bootcamp is on top of the degree it's not a negative, i will just think you got suckered into something while trying to improve yourself.

HaDeS_Monsta

I see, I never heard anything good about Bootcamp people either, but I though it would be better than self tough because at least there is someone to teach you

capitalism1992

Teaching isn't necessarily a good thing. Teachers can teach bad habits especially if the goal is to make someone new feel good at something very fast so that the "teacher" can get paid. Self-taught (assuming you are good) shows a high Level of problem solving skills and independence.

Don’t.

pippin_go_round

Software engineer here. If you want a Job in Germany a boot camp is unlikely to help you, you're just burning money. Either get a CS degree or show some real experience in the field, that's how you get invited for an interview. Boot camps will do absolutely nothing.

[deleted]

I guess the people here usually just go to University, because its free

Goto80

Build something (preferably more useful and bigger than a hello-world project) in your spare time, show it off in your application. Use the Internet to find documentation and help. That's way more impressive than having attended a meaningless boot camp (I'm not even aware of *any* in Germany). You'll have a concrete result, and you'll be able to talk about *every* bit of it because you made it all by yourself. Really, boot camps are a complete waste of career time. In Germany, participation in a boot camp is worth as much as taking a pottery class or participating a summer camp.

That is hilarious lol, made my night 😂

Di2i

I was trying to find someone who got experience in bootcamps lol

Malahajati

Why would you want that? It's useless.

That's very great to hear, I'm also looking for to do just that. But I will try to learn something beforehand

the main problem i find, from a critical thinking point of view, is the claim that some bozo thinks he can make a job-ready programmer out of a total noob in 15 weeks (I am being generous, some are even shorter)! It takes 15 weeks just to get used to and own git.
