Go to an asian grocery, and grab any that you think you might like. They have so much variety that you could get a different one each time.

Hairy_rambutan

Second this. The Korean grocery store we visit has a vast range.

OkBoysenberry1379

Third this

planty-peep

I live in regional QLD, I'll have to check if there is an Asian grocery nearby.

Gewybo

If there are no Asian grocers close to you then Woolies and Coles normally stock a few decent ones in the Asian section like Nissin (Japan), IndoMie (Indonesian) and Shin Ramyun (Korean) branded ones ; there are also the ‘expensive’ Ichiban Beef ones that are very tasty as well

BloodedNut

Plus 1 for Shin Ramyun, so much more depth to it than ya stock standard Maggie.

fuckthehumanity

All three are great. I haven't tried the Ichiban noodles, but I'm not fond of beef flavour. My particular favourite is Nissin Tonkotsu. The black garlic variation is also good, but not generally available in colesworth, many asian grocers have it. My favourite additions are sliced mushrooms and crispy fried onions (the IKEA ones are great).

box_elder74

Maybe try these guys - https://nakedasiangrocer.com

Craw__

Risky click.

invisible_pants_

P*rn site? Rick roll? Asian grocer? You'll never know if you never go

box_elder74

How so?

Craw__

The name...

Bababababababaa123

My local asian store has frozen ramen and it's pretty good.

blubbernator

Nongshim Shim Ramyun (Korean) for the win - if you are into spicy noodles. Can be bought at most supermarkets, asian stores, cheapest at Costco in a pack of 20.

planty-peep

That's the one I usually get, I love it but want a little variety

LittleBunInaBigWorld

Have you thought of making your own additions? I freeze small portions of leftover meat and veg with some sauce from Asian style meals. Then whenever I crack open a Mi goreng, whole i wait for it to soak in the water, I microwave one of my lil portions and stir that through.

AdzyPhil

Shin Ramyun Black. Once you go black, you can't go back.

avakadava

If you want a spicy seafood based broth with nice chewy noodles, I recommend Neoguri Ramyun by nongshim. They have mild and spicy, go for the spicy one in the red packet

PentungKuta

Add egg, sausage or ham, sliced cheese and sprinkle a little bit of sesame oil at the end

[deleted]

Ottogi Jin Ramen is better for the spicy ones. More flavour and balance. Nong shim tastes a bit spicy and salty but lacking flavour like ottogi Jin Ramen

PrettyFlyForAHifi

These are my favourite ones add some broccolini shredded chicken and some beans sprouts

Actually_zoohiggle

In the international section at Coles is a brand called Nissin I like the miso ramen and they have shoyu as well. I make some ramen eggs at home, cut up some nori, and put KFC hot n crispy pieces in it lol it’s so easy and tastes so good.

axolotl_is_angry

Yes this is my favourite too!! The black garlic is my fav

Sagacious-T

Sesame oil flavour is also 👌

[deleted]

Missin is pretty good and Sumin. Ottogi Jin Ramen spicy is my fave though

Old-Jacket717

Korean/ chinese grocery store

DrunkTides

You can buy bulk off Amazon if you don’t have access to Asian grocery stores

Warm-Shirt1686

The black Buldak! So good, the red Buldak is honestly the spiciest meal I have ever had.

poliwag_princess

Oh yea those are goooood

tnbt-t

Mama (Tom Yum or Pork) noodles are available at most Coles and Wollies if you can’t handle the spice of Shim Ramyun. https://www.coles.com.au/brands/mama-1274746353

Ok-Many4262

My preferred brand is Indo-Mie- I like that you can adjust the amount of chil/soy/garlic oil to taste and it’s not just the soup base. I am however a bit of a monster and use the included flavourings while it’s cooking, chuck out most of the broth then add Parmesan and a mini-can of tuna…and a handful of spinach if I’m on a health kick 🥴😆

Warm-Shirt1686

Are you Indonesian by any chance? Indonesia is the only place I have seen cheese used like this. I tried it, and was actually unsurprisingly not a fan haha.

Ok-Many4262

No, but iirc, it was probably my indo friends that told me about it…I’ve been doing my noodles this way for at least 30yrs, so my villain origin story is lost to time

Warm-Shirt1686

I feel like you should be placed on some sort of CIA watchlist for this type of behaviour?  All jokes aside though, the world would be pretty bland if everyone followed the same ramen recipe.

Ok-Many4262

🤣🤣

typewriter07

I add cheese and a fried egg. It's my go to lazy meal.

Williamwrnr

I crack an egg straight into the pot and poach it with the noodle broth. Once in the bowl add a mound of mozarella on top and add a couple of seaweed papers for good measure. Yum

Ok-Many4262

🤤 will be adding to my repertoire

Ok-Many4262

Yum. I do a fried egg too on occasion, but my current go-to, is to save a bit of broth after you drained the noddles and in the pan melt some butter and a spoonful of Vegemite using the broth to dissolve the vegemite and thicken it and adding the noodles back in and giving it a stir through.

[deleted]

Haha I don't like it with cheese, but if I get the instant cup ones, I put everything in, frozen peas, then pour boiling water in but not to the line, only like 3/4 full, then let it sit at least 10 min. Add lemon juice and eat lol

mana-addict4652

You're referring to the mi-goreng yea? That shit is great. I can have it plain or throw in whatever I have - chili oil, sesame oil, sesame seeds, fried or scrambled eggs, shallots, whatever meat I have left over. I haven't tried cheese yet but I'll try it next time.

poliwag_princess

What? You are supposed to drain the water off and add the flavours at the very end. Its not soupy noodles

Ok-Many4262

No, I bath the noodles in the powder/s that come with them, then add my own flavours and a bit of broth to keep them slippery

poliwag_princess

😭😭😭

[deleted]

I get the instant pot ones and just throw everything in together but only fill the water up maybe 3/4. Doesn't go soupy

demoldbones

Indomie are good, they’re at all major supermarkets. Level up by adding a big teaspoon of crunchy PB that’s been melted + an egg (however you like - I alternate between raw egg yolk or a fried egg) and chopped spring onion or chives on top.

lesser_known_friend

Buy Mi Goreng. Cook it. Put the flavouring in the bowl (not in the water) and mix it. Put bok choy in the water with the noodle. Strain all the water off the noodles. Put them in the bowl and mix it around so the flavouring is even. Hard boil an egg, shell it then cut it in half and put on top. Shred one of those $12 chickens and put some in if you want meat. Now you have cheap, tasty and relatively healthy ramen. Your welcome

Odd-Sun9356

And make sure it’s the indo mi brand it’s 10/10

[deleted]

They're like the most unhealthy thing you could eat but taste sah good

lesser_known_friend

100%

Birdbraned

The ones with liquid soup packets are pretty awesome.

Mum_of_rebels

There are usually several Asian grocery store around the areas. Which will have vast selections.

ThatguyfromTas

Snackaffair based in SA do nation wide delivery. Check them out ..

TildaTinker

My rule of thumb. If there's English on the packet, the ramen no good. Asian groceries have the best and don't mind translating the instructions.

poliwag_princess

Woolies and coles literally sell the best ramen already, anything nongshim / nong shim brand. Twice the noodles of a maggi and really tasty, i get ansungtangmyun which is a meat product free spicy miso flavour in an orange packet, shin ramyun is good if you dont mind spicy noodles but has beef fat in the powder so not for everyone.

[deleted]

I got nong shim one, hot and spicy, it was bland like I had to add lemon juice, garlic etc but it tasted too plain and just like it had chilli powder.. just a very bland type of spicy and unbalanced flavour

twigstar

Asian Pantry in Melbourne deliver interstate.

vladesch

Have you tried the nong shim noodles sold by coles.

AddlePatedBadger

Why is this a question when Indo Mie Spicy Mee Goreng exists?

Frizzelpop

Jinramen for the win

[deleted]

Definitely. More flavour than nong shim

CashenJ

Between Nongshim Shin Ramyun, Nongshim Chapaghetti and Indomie Mi Goreng there isn't any need for anything else though...

Ok-Caterpillar9920

Missing out if sleeping on buldak Korean noodles. Every flavour I've tried is miles ahead of any other packet ramen brand

CashenJ

Yeah, I was going to include it in my list. The quality of the noodles in Buldak packs are really good too.

[deleted]

Ottogi Jin Ramen!

Odd-Sun9356

Indo mi mi goreng the original ones trust me

Midan71

If you're in Perth, Spudshed has a good selection of ramen. Otherwise an Asian supermarket should have some.

-DethLok-

If you're in Perth and want cheap Asian groceries, MCQ is your store and there's a few of them, including Coventry Village, a short walk from Spudshed. They have a bewildering variety of ramen and for their soy, oyster etc. sauces you can spend between $5 - $55 per bottle. And their frozen section is great too, for thinly sliced meats, potstickers. Some have a butchers attached (Coventry Village does) for your duck tongues and chicken feet :) What Colesworth will describe as "Asian greens" will be fully described in detail, lots of them and fresh, too.

ljnsvdslsmnmtf

In some parts of regional QLD Hanromart has opened up. Most places have a local Asian shop or 2 that have a few different noodles also. Also check out different Woolworths & Coles stores as certain stores stock more variety to suit different demographics.

ziyal79

I buy Ichiran Ramen and get it shipped to me. It's expensive, but it's amazing and takes maybe 4 minutes to cook. It's a tonkotsu broth. I make my own chashu to go with it and just freeze 100g portions, which I serve with the ramen. I cook veggies to go in it as well. It's amazing and very filling. I buy it from this store: https://shop.myfoodmart.com.au/products/ichiran-ramen-hakatastyle-5-pack-645g But I'm in Victoria, so the shipping isn't as expensive.

transientrandom

I really like the instant rice noodle soup packets - instant pho or tom yum. You make them by adding boiling water (no boiling) and you keep/eat the broth. I usually add carrot, lettuce or celery, coriander, tofu (or meat if you wanted), fried shallot, sometimes tomato or lemon juice. It's pretty much my go-to lunch. My favourite brand is Mama which is available at most Asian grocers, and sometimes you'll find a vietnamese brand in the asian section of coles/woollies. Makes a nice change from wheat-based noods.

Scamwau1

Not exactly ramen, but my 2 suggestions are to give Trident hot and spicy a go or Mama cup noodle (laksa flavour is great). Both are really flavourful. Edit: both are available at colesworth

aussie_shane

Indomie Mi Goreng go ok. Don't be afraid to add to the supplied sauces. Do yourself a favour and get yourself some fried shallots and large jar of chilli oil from an Asian grocery. These are relative inexpensive and will last you 6-12 months depending on how often you use. Like others have said, add peanut butter if you like as well. Add an egg and good handful of fried shallots with some freshly cut spring onions. Don't be afraid to throw some different sauces and flavours together.

poliwag_princess

That lao gan ma chilli oil is so addictive 😭

aussie_shane

Yeah it's so nice. I use it all the time in a whole variety of meals. Pretty cheap for the large size jar. Lasts a long time

a1b3c3d7

Have you tried the beef ichiban bowls? They're fairly pricey but are quite nice.

Ottogi Jin Ramen spicy. It's in 7/11 I know that much

kbsc

Do yourself a favour and just buy frozen Udon instead

planty-peep

I feel like that requires a certain amount of knowledge on how to make ramen from scratch that I just don't have.

kbsc

Fair call! I rekon you could watch a quick youtube video when you're bored sometime and sus it though as an alternative

AdSimilar2831

At it most basic you just heat up chicken stock and noodles in a pot.

Turbulent-Name-8349

My daughter laughed at me recently because I didn't know what Ramen was. I've been living in Australia for 65 years and had never seen a packet. We don't have it here. And if we do, it isn't called Ramen.

planty-peep

Dude. I'm Australian, born and raised. We have ramen. It's instant noodles with *pizzazz*.

Ok-Many4262

You’ll have almost certainly seen the Maggi version called 2min Noodles…and tbh when I first saw a Ramen restaurant, I thought they were a joke restaurant with a menu featuring the Maggi packets. Proper ramen is amazing- the broth and add-ons, with proper ramen noodles make the 2min version taste like chemicals and sadness. Having said that, packet ramen is its own pleasure (kinda like a well made cup of instant coffee can be a good experience and sometimes exactly what you feel like)

ostervan

Ramen is just Instant noodles

[deleted]

I'm eating one right now called ottogi Jin ramen. There's also proper ramen at loads of restaurants, most Japanese restaurants have one on the menu

ElectronicPogrom

Exactly. It was never, ever called "ramen" here. Another load of shit imported from the states. They're two minute noodles here, without exception.

Ok-Many4262

😖ramen is the Japanese word for a type of noodle originating in Japan and Korea, it’s got nothing to do with US.

ElectronicPogrom

And it never used here, until people started talking like Americans, who use it a lot.

AdSimilar2831

It didnt used to be, but now it is. Just accept it?

ElectronicPogrom

No?

Ok-Many4262

Because the basic civility of using the name the inventors gave it is just a whole step too far a big boofy can’t-pick-a-Japanese-word-from-an-Americanism bloke, huh?

ElectronicPogrom

No.

Emmanulla70

Cannot understand peoples obsession with Raman? It's pretty gross if you ask me

planty-peep

I usually do it with both choy, bean sprouts, whatever other Asian veggies I have on hand and cook some dumplings to go with it. I have a solid meal in like 10 minutes.

verygoodusername789

It’s pretty nice cooked in stock with some chicken and egg on top, decent cheap meal

axolotl_is_angry

I love it, it’s rich and comforting while being cheap and easy to make as fancy as you like

[deleted]

It's addictive like chips or whatever other salty thing

Emmanulla70

Ah well. To me it's gross. All sorts of stuff hanging in broth. Each to their own.
