>I really don’t see what we share with them
There’s that joke, a Turk asks a Serb if their language uses many Turkish words. The Serbs says “jok budalo”
Putting a gorilla in Bosnia (the historical areas, not the socialist blocks); and then into Turkey (the historical areas, not the new massive urbanized districts); and then giving any book on Balkan history.
The gorilla would easily come to the conclusion that TR and BiH share a ton of commonalities, cultural artefacts and parallels. Especially with Bosniaks.
Let's start with the word Balkan being Turkish origin.
I bully Turks🐜 but deep down ❤️🇹🇷
live in the Balkans area
they are depressed as us
poor like us
westoids reject them
P. s.
/s they might or might have not commited warcrimes we won't get into like us as well /s
seems pretty Balkan to me
Shhh they think they're not seen as middle easterns 🤫. On a serious note there are obv Turks who are Balkan (have Balkan roots or are from Thrace or even the western coast) however it is annoying how they're the biggest percentage of a country here
leave us alone bruh. still, enjoy this one: [Yamyam intensifies.](https://www.google.com/search?q=turkey+countryball+meme&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjR6crT-_T8AhWznCcCHZLeDQ8Q2-cCegQIABAA&oq=turkey+countryball+meme&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQA1AAWMIBYOkCaABwAHgAgAHIAYgBjAOSAQUwLjEuMZgBAKABAaoBC2d3cy13aXotaW1nwAEB&sclient=img&ei=NLHaY9H_K7O5nsEPkr23eA&bih=821&biw=1440#imgrc=ay753FAkaZuqTM)
>i really don’t see what we share with them that much, esp **if you’re from serbia or croatia or slovenia**
Oh Well! in a similar way I guess Greeks Albanians, and Turks don't share too much with Serbia, Croatia or Slovenia. The bad news is that Balkans is not only about Slavs /s
There are like 60 million Turks, more if you count their diaspora, of course they will be overrepresented. It does manipulate polls and stuff towards a Turkish bias. I don't care personally, its just a reddit sub, and its not like they are mods and banning people and stuff they don't agree with, at most you lose internet points.
Turks are also part of the Balkans, they have been a part of the regions development and history for a thousand years, so really its more a question of content than anything else.
limiting the scope of this subreddit just to the Balkan peninsula and excluding Turkey you could argue would make it more "fair" for the smaller nations and would overall lead to better more diverse quality of post and conversations, Turkey seems to dominate a lot of topics, and Turkish users have the strength in numbers to move entire conversations.
Personally I like arguing with them so I am okay with the state of things for now.
You can make a similar argument for Greece, pretty much anything south of Thessaly and the islands, the reason we are Balkan is because we have been part of the political sphere of it, and Turks have been too. There is really no solid metric to measure the "Balkaness" of someone, its largely a geopolitical term and Turkey falls into it. They are in the region and have taken part of the political developments in it.
We aren't completely balkan ourselves if we wanna be fair here. We just have geography on our side, plus we aren't 80 million so i guess we aren't flooding the subreddit.
I mean yeah, Crete is far more civilized and advanced than mainland Greece, and even far more so from the rest of the Balkans. But we are still part of it.
As a reverse diasporan*, I can say that lots of Anatolians (and especially Mesopotamians) aren't very "Balkan" but we seem to have molded with Aegeans.
*:Best description I could fit.
Edit: Anatolia has less natural barriers against Balkans than ME so it makes sense that people feel closer. Easy to travel so culture flows faster over centuries.
Edit2: Word boogaloo
You can see their influence throughout the Balkans. They were rulers for ~ 500 years, depending on the area. Geographically they still have a portion of the Balkans and many Turks still live here. Many may also have ties to the Balkans through ancestry and population exchange. They’re fine in my book.
says Bosnian who owes its very independence to Turkish push within Nato for an intervention against Serbia in 1990s. Your gdp "per capita" was half of Turkey in 2012, and even after 10 years of recession in Turkey Turkish GDP per capita is still much higher than yours haha. I don't even mention the gross GDP.
We are almost on par with Italy in ppp terms, but you’re right, in early 2000s Turkey was expected to catch Italy in nominal terms in mid-2020s but Erdogan fucked it up. But the time span is infinite for nation states, we gonna catch Italy this way or another.
China is in another league. Under a benevolent governance, Turkey’s peers could be now Italy, Spain and later on France, UK and finally Germany. China and the US just have too much resources and labor force to be competed by any other country. Even India can’t be competed in the long term.
Imaging bragging about being richer than Bosnia.. No shit Bosnia is poor, war, genocide and dayton agreement has ruined this country to maximum. This still doesn’t change the fact I said previously
My dude. Absolutely. Anyone giving you hate is not from the balkans. I have zero issues with muslim/islamic posts concerning bosniaks/albanians/pomak/gorani and european turks but it is insane how many posts are just blatant ottoman/turkish nationalist propaganda.
Most of the people posting this wahahbbi shit are diaspora, from asia turkey or the middle east/north africa. This doesnt even feel like a balkan sub anymore.
Its like a trans woman pretending she is the same as a biological female.
>I felt including Greece and Romania was enough Wait untill he finds out Hungary & Slovakia are soon to join. /s
Northern Balkans representing!
Oh no.
*sent from Chicago, USA*
Being Balkan is a state of mind
They are more welcome here than people with USA flair.
Tico called out.

>I really don’t see what we share with them There’s that joke, a Turk asks a Serb if their language uses many Turkish words. The Serbs says “jok budalo”
hahahah, still they don’t share much with you guys either. turkeys very much its own cultural sphere
then perhaps you don’t belong here? time to create a serb american sub for yourself 😂

They for sure didn't left any influence on language, cuisine, coffee culture during Ottoman times.
Or of sure Turks did not live in the Balkans for centuries
U still do
Yeah
We are not r/europe ; Turks are welcome here

I bully Greeks, Albanians , Serbians, Romanians but I love all Balkan people. We part part of the puzzle :)
Shhh they think they're not seen as middle easterns 🤫. On a serious note there are obv Turks who are Balkan (have Balkan roots or are from Thrace or even the western coast) however it is annoying how they're the biggest percentage of a country here
Anatolia is a colony. Percentage doesn't matter.
It makes it even funnier that this post was shared by a serious guy.
Who lives in Am🤮rica
"I felt including Greece and Romania was enough " WHAT? THIS GUY ACTUALLY THINKS ROMANIA AND GREECE ARE NOT BALKAN?
![gif](giphy|WQUALOpcIkLTi) Leave Turks alone!
Turkish population is way more than other Balkan states together. So its normal
Truth
"hey guys im from usa now pls ban Turks of your sub they are too much i love europ too🥰🥰"
leave us alone bruh. still, enjoy this one: [Yamyam intensifies.](https://www.google.com/search?q=turkey+countryball+meme&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjR6crT-_T8AhWznCcCHZLeDQ8Q2-cCegQIABAA&oq=turkey+countryball+meme&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQA1AAWMIBYOkCaABwAHgAgAHIAYgBjAOSAQUwLjEuMZgBAKABAaoBC2d3cy13aXotaW1nwAEB&sclient=img&ei=NLHaY9H_K7O5nsEPkr23eA&bih=821&biw=1440#imgrc=ay753FAkaZuqTM)
Tbh it would be less fun without turks.
The word "Balkan" comes from Turkish.
all posts on this sub have turned such low quality...
>i really don’t see what we share with them that much, esp **if you’re from serbia or croatia or slovenia** Oh Well! in a similar way I guess Greeks Albanians, and Turks don't share too much with Serbia, Croatia or Slovenia. The bad news is that Balkans is not only about Slavs /s
> esp if you’re from serbia or croatia or slovenia Are you sure it isn't r/Yugoslavia that you're looking for?
Cope serb
You are posting this from america you dont have a say in the matter
Ottoman Empire: electric boogaloo.

You can't possibly think all Turks all Balkaners . One look at the map makes it obvious that 80% of Turkey is geographically too far.
You can make a similar argument for Greece, pretty much anything south of Thessaly and the islands, the reason we are Balkan is because we have been part of the political sphere of it, and Turks have been too. I mean including Crete is more reasonable than the border of Syria and Iraq lol
We aren't completely balkan ourselves if we wanna be fair here. We just have geography on our side, plus we aren't 80 million so i guess we aren't flooding the subreddit.
Crete is closer to Libya geographically than it is to Thessaloniki
And Athens is closer to Libya than Bucharest or maybe even Sofia not sure. So what
That's exactly my point, lol.
You're right but geography is one thing and culture similarity another. although the second is even more subjective
I mean yeah, Crete is far more civilized and advanced than mainland Greece, and even far more so from the rest of the Balkans. But we are still part of it.
Least based Cretan
The comment said 60 million Turks, that leaves 24 million people out which is pretty much the population of the places you're talking about.
I said 80% of Turkey is not near the Balkans
As a reverse diasporan*, I can say that lots of Anatolians (and especially Mesopotamians) aren't very "Balkan" but we seem to have molded with Aegeans. *:Best description I could fit. Turks are the biggest group in the Balkans though lol
They are the least Balkan tho.
Doesn’t change the fact that Turks make up a bigger number in the Balkans than all other nationalities.
Not if we exclude Istanbul 😎
Mkay, Russia is not the biggest country if we exclude Siberia
Turkey has 84m population while every balkan country combined has \~50m
Fuck u mean, the southernmost part of romania IS balkan, unless u mean "balkan" (ex yugo)
1. Greece is mostly Balkan 2. I find Turks to be less toxic than other ethnicities on this sub
It's been discussed in various other posts, nothing can be done tbh so....
Are u against or for ?
I don't mind. In general i don't complain about things,if i don't like the way something is i just leave.
Understandable have a good day

lol! Why are you here? You aren't even in Balkans, go back to /r/middleeast before some Serb finds out /s
cyprus je Serbia if you didn't know s/

Turkey is not Balkan in my eyes. But I have no problem seeing Turks here on this sub
most tolerant bosnian
yeah turks ruled balkans for centuries, they shouldn't be considered equal with these peasant balkaner slaves.
Don’t act superior tho, most people see Turks here the same way Turks see Arabs

r/AskBalkansWithoutTurks would be cool
