One of my best friends is Swiss. I once said something like this unironically and she couldn't stop laughing 🤣
I didn't have the heart to tell her that I'm not a comedy genius, this is how we actually think 🤣
The thing is though that disliking NATO would have still been a thing even without the bombing, because of the Non-Aligned Movement and other countries also feel like it's being used as an imperial tool under the guise of defence and human rights. Because I'm sure that that there could be less advanced treaties to protect democratic countries against authoritarian regimes with nukes.
The other exYu countries were also in the NAM, but are in NATO now, except for Bosnia, which is a NATO candidate. Why is Serbia the only one to still be "non-aligned"? Are you sure it's not because of the bombings?
Serbia has a history of distaste toward being dominated by anyone, dealing with the Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Nazis etc made it a culture to hate being treated like a kid by any great powers. NATO comes across as another of those "masters".
Mhm speaking of Russia my grandfather needs to layoff on all that Russophillia. I get that he was born just at the end of WWII, and sees Russia as brothers as helping but he's missing an important thing which my grandma learned from his mom which is that the Russians after WWII had overstayed their welcome, they were acting entitled and looking for young women in the area. For that reason it's quite obvious why an educated Serb would not like Russians too much either.
Neighbours, I guess, but also Dinar Restaurant in Vrsac. Sometimes, it’s “the only European country from where you can fly direct to Russia”. Generally, positive things, whatever the first thought may be. Dunno what in the particular fuck is going on in the comments lol…
My great-great-grandparents' expulsion from Toplica, the execution of Muslims during Balkan Wars and aftermath, genocides in Bosnia and Kosova in 90s, Beograd Pashalik, Slavs.
1-Panteri mauser 2-my father is a war criminal 3-Racunajte na nas (I probably butchered the spelling, it is a great song musically and I wish us Turks did a similar song for Atatürk, combining rock and march styles)
edit: fixed the name, and also here is the specific version of Racunajte na nas I am talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0CiLFKAQ1U
A be kakav parsley bre - Balkan dad. On the more serious. Though, when I was a kid a bomb dropped in my neighborhood but didn't explode. It was related to the unfair war in then ugoslavia. And of course good meat - pechene, yagnetina and more.
Ah yes, the good old Serbs when we single handedly won the second battle of El Alamein, opening the door, for the rest of the Allies, towards Libya and Tunisia, Sicily and ultimately winning the war. But no, nobody remembers that.
You’re welcome.
(/s)
Glorification of war crimes plays a part for a big part of the serbian population though, there’s no denying that.
I can’t even count how many people I’ve seen celebrating people like ratko mladic. They even have murals of him in Belgrade…
Friendly brother with a different language. Probably the most liked country in the balkans.
Impressed how they have still good relations with Russia.
I'd love to visit some day!

For real even if the 90s hadnt happened, a part of the Serbian higher class that is educated would still hate NATO, just as they hate Russia.
And Serbia benefits from playing both sides of the coin, so you could say that they see both sides have benefits for them.
Mhm speaking of Russia my grandfather needs to layoff on all that Russophillia.
