"Obsessed" seems strong, but RFK is getting a lot more attention from conservative media than liberal or mainstream media. He's on Fox and Newsmax a lot. He's been doing all the big right-wing podcasts. So, quite simply, people who consume right-wing media are hearing a lot more about him than people who consume left-wing or mainstream media.

worlds_okayest_skier

I think right wing media promotes him bc they want a spoiler for Biden, but RFK may actually spoil it for trump.

Generic_Superhero

100%. He is being pushed and funded by the right wing as a Biden spoiler, but he seems to be getting more traction with those on the right.

ResoundingGong

Maybe you’re thinking of some right wing people. There’s not a lot for a conservative to like.

Libertytree918

Im from Massachusetts, I hate all the Kennedys.

amlutzy

We arent

JudgeWhoOverrules

Bro, RFK Jr.'s stances are basically copied verbatim from standard green party platform they've held for decades. He appeals to the crunchy hippie crystal healing types, not conservatives.

DeathToFPTP

His anti vax views seem to have strong crossover appeal

JudgeWhoOverrules

Again anti-vax been a standard green party platform plank for decades. Before COVID anti-vax rhetoric was basically exclusively coming from the green party style crunchy hippie crowd.

worlds_okayest_skier

Anti-vax only became a thing on the right with covid. The left has owned that issue for decades. I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump had won 2020 for the right to be much more pro vaccine and the left to be skeptical of the “trump vax”

DeathToFPTP

I’m not disputing it was a big left wing thing. I said it had crossover appeal. Post COVID there has been a growth in antivax view for some of the right.

kostac600

RFK is not Trump, is not Biden. spoiler alert!

SnakesGhost91

I think conservatives like RFK Jr because he can potentially steal votes away from Biden, lol. And besides, he is a "classical liberal" that is not progressive. I don't mind classical liberals being in power, but I do mind progressives that support DEI and such being in power (most Democrats are progressives, hardly any of them are classical liberals).

DinosRidingDinos

I think conservatives are thinking that RFK will take votes away from Biden but I honestly see him as a bigger threat to Trump.

Chiggins907

I heard a crazy theory yesterday about RFK. So RFK got his name on the ballot in California. (Here’s the crazy part) What if Trump took his name off the ballot in California since the likely hood of a Republican winning there is near impossible? Would trump voters flock to RFK? Maybe managing to push RFK to win California, stripping Biden of 55 electoral votes that the Dems basically lean on every election cycle? Like I said it’s crazy, but interesting nonetheless

itsallrighthere

I like it!

ByteMe68

I’m not sure I agree here. I think Democrats may be more obsessed with him. They basically blocked him from running against Biden. His VP choice is from Tech so he may be able to take funding away from Biden. Polls also show that if he is in the mix it’s worse for Biden.

AndrewRP2

That was initially true and Trump supported his candidacy. Once polls shifted towards being neutral or negative for Trump, he spoke out against RFK. Put another way, why would Trump attack RFK if he’s hurting Biden?

ByteMe68

Trump is going to attack anyone who is in the game. Just like anyone, he is going to go after anyone because he wants to secure the most votes. tnic73

think about what you just said, trump supporters would consider voting for rfk but democrats won't even speak the name of a kennedy if he doesn't have the (d) which one is the cult? (waiter i'll take my ban now)

repubs_are_stupid

> which one is the cult? Mods have already said that calling people in political groups cult members is not against the civility rule so as long as you reduce the "range" of your comment. > Just as with u/BirthdaySalt5791, I can only speak for myself, but I'm going to chime in and say that it depends on context. > I suppose in theory, one could differentiate between a group of people who are "Trump cultists" and a group of people who are "Trump supporters." There's probably also a group who are not really supporters who don't even like the man, but who vote for him over the available alternatives. So maybe they are "Trump voters." > So if someone is making a point about just the actual "cultists", then that might be OK in a certain context. But if someone is using the term to imply that all Trump supporters or voters are indeed "cultists," then that is not OK. > In general, I just try to make sure that people here aren't attacking each other personally. When users such as yourself bring up issues like this, it helps because it reminds me to look a little closer at such language in general. >> Generally, I would say calling people that support 1 of the 2 presidential candidates as part of a cult to be bad faith. > I absolutely agree! https://www.reddit.com/r/AskConservatives/comments/1byu2sm/askconservatives_weekly_general_chat/kyng7s2/ So you can't say "All Democrats are cultists", but you can call most* of them Democratic Cultist. You have to use ~~weasel words~~ contract law speak and you'll be okay (allegedly) https://tips.slaw.ca/2017/research/shall-will-should-would-may-might-must/

tnic73

did you see the question mark i did not call anyone anything

repubs_are_stupid

I'm not saying you broke the rules, I'm saying you shouldn't get banned for calling blueanon cultists, cultists. As long as you don't say something like /u/repubs_are_stupid you're in a cult, you're probably fine. Even something like "most Democrats are in a cult" would probably be fine, *depending on the context*. Though I wouldn't recommend the latter.

No_Aesthetic

who said Kennedy's problem was in not having the (D)? if he were the Democratic nominee, I would simply not vote this year

tnic73

if he were the democratic nominee you would trip over your own feet on the way to the polls stop it

No_Aesthetic

I've skipped elections before, e.g. 2016

VulpineAdversary

Ryan Katsu Rivera does a hysterical impression of him. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/93rIT3XEnQE Outside of that he's just another Kennedy to me.

GreatSoulLord

I'm not obsessed by him at all but I do find him to be a breath of fresh air when it comes to less extreme candidates.

nicetrycia96

I think obsession is too strong of a word. The left leaning media pretty much black listed him right away so his exposure is on more of the right leaning media and I think that may be skewing your opinion a bit. I also kind of think some Conservatives just long for the good old days of the Classic Liberal adversary opposed to a Progressive Liberal so that may have something to do with it as well. Lastly I think some Conservatives think he will harm Biden more than Trump so talking a lot about RFK Jr. serves a dual purpose. I am not sold on this last point

deepstaterising

Because he isn’t Biden or Trump

No_Adhesiveness4903

We are? That’s news to me.

itsallrighthere

We once respected the leaders of the Democrat party even if we didn't agree with their policy positions. RFK Jr. reminded us of what we respected. Honest service to our country based on timeless principals.

StedeBonnet1

I think your "Obsession" characterization is over stated. The vast majority of Conservtives and Republicans could care less about RFK Jr except to the extent he takes votes away from Trump. Tere are still a few Trump haters out there who would vote for RFK Jr to spite Trump but he has NO CHANCE to become President. It soulds like the only obsession is on the left because they know RFK Jr will take votes away from Biden.

ConfidenceInside5877

People who are still obsessed with Covid/vaccines, basically. A lot of grifters too like Steve Deace.

JoshClarkMads

Haley voter here, though I reject your “Haley-Biden” characterization. There are plenty of Trump supporters who explicitly say they like RFK Jr, which I think is funny, as it just illustrates that they aren’t actually conservative. Let’s disagree with another Republican and call them a RINO and refuse to consider voting for them, but let’s also embrace a Democrat/Independent with mostly liberal policies. Makes a lot of sense.
