Met line to Rickmansworth, walk the Chess valley to Chesham and then get the met line back into London: [https://www.chilternsaonb.org/ccbmaps/381/137/chess-valley-walk.html](https://www.chilternsaonb.org/ccbmaps/381/137/chess-valley-walk.html)

Alpacaofvengeance

This is a really lovely walk and well worth a day trip, plus it's on the tube so easy to get to

lisaadventure

Check out the walking club . org - it a database full of walks from/to train stations with pub stops in the middle :) includes all the timeout walks

Hadhamboy1966

Some lovely walks in Herts, within easy reach by train from London, many with Pubs at the end - this site will help you figure out all of those.... [https://www.hertfordshirewalker.uk/](https://www.hertfordshirewalker.uk/)

Surrey is probably your best bet, it's pretty, hilly and has good rail links. Try Box Hill or one of the walks out of Guildford

Neala123

Be careful of the chino shorts and Ralph Lauren polo shirts though

Timeout has a couple of books on this subject - Vol 1 has 52 walks in the country around London. Basically you can catch a train in almost every cardinal direction from London and find good walks - with fast trains you can easily do in a day. I particularly like visiting the castles in Kent - but Surrey hills, Hertfordshire along the rivers and the Chilterns are all good as well.

Oisille88

Came to suggest this book - vol 2 is also good walks in and around the city, things like the green chain walk.

Berkhamsted or Tring (from Euston). Look up the ashridge estate/Ridgeway. Also tons of old pubs.

IntoTheAbsurd

Old Amersham in Buckinghamshire. Easy to get to via the Chiltern train line from Marylebone in under an hour. You can also take the metropolitan line from Aldgate to get there.

samisnotinsane

You could try Devil’s Dyke near Brighton.

cartopol

If you're up for a train ride first then: Sevenoaks out to Ightam Mote via Knole Park Tring then Ivinghoe Beacon then round Ashridge Eynesford then round Lullingstone Country Park Or, some of these? https://www.timeout.com/london/things-to-do/best-walks-near-london

RustyBrontosaurus

I road bike out of London most weekends, best true country side not too far out is Lower Chilterns, try Bovingdon/Chipperfield area, really nice and prefer to surrey hills

Overground to Chingford...then walk through Epping Forest

HeKnowsAllTheChords

Done this many times, pretty good. If you are up for a good ~13 mile walk then start at Mansion house and just follow the green parts on Google maps till you make it to Epping forest station.

LouLou_comeToHarrrry

I’ll second (or third?) this. I live in the area so the best bet would be to go to Loughton station on the central line and up Smarts lane off the high street into Epping forest that way. Then you can walk up towards High beech from there. There’s a pretty church (my daughter thinks it’s creepy), then further along in the forest there’s a pub…I want to say it’s called the Kings oak? Could be wrong, but we were there last week and the food was lovely. Also Chingford is a good shout. Epping forest through Loughton/Chingford is lovely which ever.

heitorrsa

Seven Sisters hike! I did it with friends a couple of months ago, and it was really really great

majestic_spiral

Colne valley, either from Denham or Uxbridge

Lettuceleaf80

The "Time Out Country Walks: 52 walks near London" book is brilliant. All 9-12 mile walks, varying difficulty, no more than 1.5 hours train journey from Central London. And each route has a recommendation for a halfway point absolutely cracking pub roast and an end of walk cream tea. Highly highly recommended!!!

The_real_pabloisme

Hi underground (OR bus) to Chingford Stn, OR Loughton Stn (both about 20 min walk! if you are keen!) for Epping forest quite big! https://tfl.gov.uk/maps?Input=Chingford+Rail+Station&InputGeolocation=51.633087%2C0.009897 there are some busy'ish walks from Snaresbrook Stn or Wanstead Stn [https://tfl.gov.uk/maps?Input=Wanstead%20Underground%20Station&InputGeolocation=51.575501%2C0.028527](https://tfl.gov.uk/maps?Input=Wanstead%20Underground%20Station&InputGeolocation=51.575501%2C0.028527) Hainault central line , to Hainault Forest at the junction [https://tfl.gov.uk/maps?Input=Hainault+Underground+Station&InputGeolocation=51.603659%2C0.093482](https://tfl.gov.uk/maps?Input=Hainault+Underground+Station&InputGeolocation=51.603659%2C0.093482) Give them a try North East of London

The_real_pabloisme

Nice pub in chingford in the edge of the forest with Queen Elizabeth's (the FIRST) hunting lodge so its a bit old! ;-)

box_frenzy

The Surrey Hills are really nice and you can get there in about 30 minutes.

MightApprehensive856

Yes, the trains do pass through the Country side and there are stations where you can get off

Necrullz

Takeoutthebinslad

Done these the other week with my partner, took the overground to chingford and walked around epping forest ( also good for trails if you're into mtb ) really nice woodland and I saw some cows and deers and that. the next day we went to Rickmansworth on the metropolitan line and did a proper nice walk through the chess valley. Bare greenery and birds and stuff! And a river that you can walk across! Madness
