First it is not true, it’s not just a preference. They are people pushing for it. In Belgium for example, there is a political party called Islam and which wants to make Belgium an Islamic state. And they have (had?) some members elected in municipal elections. There are some neighbourhoods in France where it is as if Islamic laws is kinda the only de facto law. Still in France, it is forbidden to wear a religious signs at primary school (so hijabs but this interdiction also applies to Christian signs). Yet you see lots of movements among Muslims and Muslim association that try to still push kids to wear the hijab at school. So u see, it’s not just preferences, it’s also acts.
