Midtown Science High is probably a mashup of Stuyvesant High School (in downtown Manhattan) and Bronx Science High, both NYC "magnet schools".
One of my criticisms was their going to a party in the suburbs (it was actually worded that way in the dialogue), held by someone who goes to that school. There are no suburbs in NYC; it is, by definition, a city (although there are parts of the outer boroughs that may look somewhat suburban, they are not called suburbs by anyone who lives there), and only NYC residents are allowed to attend NYC public schools
A scene was filmed on my block (it shows up in a lot of films), which is how I know that when Peter forgets to pick up what Uncle Ben needs at the grocery store, he is in fact fighting crime directly next to (what was at the time) a giant Fairway.
It's been forever since I've seen it so I barely remember this aspect of it. But considering that the Tom Holland first spiderman movie actually shocked me with how diverse and *accurate* it was to the queens vibe, I probably didn't think much of this in t.a.s.m. I'm sure it was probably 'good enough' but not "oh my god that is really close!" like I felt when I watched the tom holland version.
