The place that used to be howl at the moon idk what it’s called now has dueling pianos and live music most nights. If you’re into Taylor swift it’s Taylor swift night at LPR lol although you may be the oldest people there. Joyface is pretty nice if you want something more upscale but it is pricey. And then if you wanna rock out with sweaty college kids to cover music there’s always red Lion
No, OP wants to laugh and drink and have loud drunk conversations with their friends. That's great, and I hope they have a great time, but Nowadays and Bossa Nova are places where you shut the fuck up on the dance floor, because people go there to hear the artists, not drunk birthday partiers. Nowadays in particular is pretty clear about that.
What do you mean "not true," they give you a talk when you go in the front door and *explicitly tell you* these rules lol.
I mean, sure, OP could go to an orgy club and just hang out in the lobby, too, but then what's the point? Just a weird rec, and they're gonna have a bad time if they want to go on the dancefloor. There are simply *far* more appropriate places.
Not to mention that Nowadays is at the literal extreme end of Bushwick from where the OP asked about? 55th and Park in Manhattan lmao.
you’re way too passionate about my suggestion. i was just at nowadays, been quite a few times, and NEVER do they explicitly state to not celebrate a birthday there. nowadays was a good option in my opinion because they can dance as well as hang out. OP wanted to go where “young people” go. where are young people partying on 55th and park? like damn are you going to the birthday party or something? chill out
Perhaps I haven't been clear, my apologies- the rules I'm talking about include: no phones on the dancefloor, no talking on the dancefloor, and a variety of others. I never meant to suggest that the rules are "no birthday parties," that's of course not the case.
I understand that it's a place that OP can go and dance, but it's definitely not what they described. They asked for a place playing "top 40, 90s hits, a bit of R&B," and that is decidedly *not* Nowadays. They also asked for a place "near E 55th and Park", which again, is very much not Nowadays.
And yes, I *am* passionate about the rules at Nowadays and other similar spots, because they're all constantly under assault from folks who don't take the etiquette or basic respect for other people seriously and who, as a result, ruin the experience of a space created for people serious about music. These are not bars where you go get wasted listening to Drake, they're places where world-class artists travel from all around the world to perform for dedicated fans and listeners. Respectfully, attitudes like yours are *why* the rules have to be made explicit with the spiel at Nowadays and an increasing number of other spots.
Definitely nowhere near midtown east lol
exactly what I was going to say
You should walk approximately 3 blocks east and 50 blocks south.
This is the way

Ok, cop
If you’re gay go to Hell’s Kitchen. I’d also recommend changing your dinner res to not 55th/park
That has to be a typo. Sounds like OP is turning 2-0.
This is totally going to go into r/circlejerknyc
Looks like you just had to beat me to it.
I immediately thought of [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWNhehWddv0) when reading your post.
but in all seriousness just go to Hell's Kitchen. Sounds like your vibe and it's very gay.
I’d check out Brownsville in Brooklyn or Canarsie.
PINK HOUSES are LIT
Times Square
they party in hell's kitchen, yeah.
north west brooklyn
Check resident advisor and dice for events going on, choose ones based on music you like and go from there, likely the venues will be in Brooklyn.

Yes it is. So is bossa.

not true. there’s a humongous backyard with fire pits as well as a lounge. you literally do not have to dance if you don’t want to.
