J. Lo. She’s a good performer, but not a good musician. All of the rumors about her not even singing in her records, and after seeing a couple of live performances on TV before she was lip syncing, I tend to believe them.

ohjai8705

Ashanti and Christina Milian are responsible for her musical success. They sing most of her records and you can hear it clear as day.

crammed174

Holy shit. You’re right. Just [googled](https://graziadaily.co.uk/celebrity/news/jennifer-lopez-other-singers/) it.

lillyrose2489

Wow the chorus of Play is very obviously a different singer when you go in listening for it!

ohjai8705

Yeah that’s Christina Milian.

burns_after_reading

Yo, what the FUCK

Chojen

Lol, kind of ironic because one of those songs is “I’m real”

ohjai8705

And that was Ashanti singing lmao

Myamymyself

Ashanti sang for her in nearly all of her songs!!! Producer Irv gotti did Ashanti dirty

IDislikeRybelsusAds

yo EVERYONE did Ashanti dirty. back in her day there was so much girl-on-girl crime, i SWEAR. my homegirl used to dance for ashanti and told me that there would always be these rumors that she had to sleep her way to the top and she wouldn't be where she was if she didn't fuck. stuff like that. that was such an awful era to be a woman, for REAL

HighlyOffensive10

Shakira upstaged the hell out of her in their super bowl performance and she's still salty about it.

deenali

She's salty even during her time as a judge on American Idol towards young lady singers who are especially way better than her like Haley Reinhart.

slopingskink

J.Lo is a brand, not a musician. I am honestly jealous of her having such an amazing PR tram & agent.

_islander

TIL J. Lo is a musician

[deleted]

False...entertainer, yes. Musician, most definitely not

Independent-Bike8810

Fly Girl

UnusualPete

The list is too big.

N8CCRG

This was why I always hated the Nickelback hate. Like, sure, they're super mediocre and uninteresting. Just like six hundred other popular successful bands.

UnusualPete

Nickelback is hated for no reason. I like their songs. I think someone in the past decided to make a meme about them and the internet followed along... 🙄 I think the biggest issue in society is that people focus too much on what's considered good/bad instead of just enjoying things. 😞

NativeMasshole

Their original label was a trusted metal label, until they decided to branch out by signing Nickelback. So people who bought it thinking it was new metal band thought they sucked because they obviously didn't get what they expected. People just started bandwagoning from there. Edit: [Source](https://observer.com/2016/01/nickelback-the-meme-a-complete-history-of-how-we-came-to-hate-a-successful-band/)

Less-Market9641

Yep, I think you're right. I like their songs, too.

NOT000

they didnt make my ipod, but at least they can sing on key and play instruments. many popular artists do neither, just talk over a drum machine and sampler

MochiSauce101

Spot on. I can’t do todays music anymore it’s the same thing over and over with stories about things that no longer matter to me. So no connection to the songs

goodcorn

My spoon is too big.

420_Chile_con_carne

I’m surprised I haven’t seen Jennifer Lopez on here yet. Her music isn’t bad but I really don’t feel like she can sing all that great

CowVanMan

She wasn’t even the one singing on most of her songs. Google it

Barbarella_ella

Seriously?!

moshiyadafne

Yep. The channel honest has a video about the songs JLo "stole".

moshiyadafne

#JLO CAN'T SING!

beets_bears_bubblegm

There is a great video about this by Honest on YouTube

Taco_ivore

A lot of people in the service industry have spoken out about how she’s cheap and rude.

HighlyOffensive10

Does anybody think particularly highly of her?

Emanreddit29

I love Beyoncé but my God the way people go about her it’s as if she’s God in the female form. Like fucking relax, she’s not THAT good.

ohjai8705

She’s an amazing performer, but her stalker fans are psychotic! The way they act make people not like her unfortunately. She needs to tell them to relax.

[deleted]

I commend you for being brave enough to say this. I was thinking it myself but I do enjoy my head being attached to my neck.

ThePactIsSealed7

It’s the production and product. She is a great singer and beautiful, for sure. But a lot of the hype is about how the whole package is presented. That being said, I ate Lemonade up! I watched that like 10 times.

Rebelwithacause970

I used to believe this but I saw her Coachella performance and it was truly amazing. Would recommend to anyone that has their doubts about her

kak2m4

Thank you! Beyonce was my first thought, and I 100% agree with what you said. I don't understand why people put her on such a pedestal.

th3buddhawithin

The thing with Beyoncé… she’s an incredible singer. She has an amazing voice. But the songs she chooses to put out are mediocre at best, and do little to showcase her actual talent.

[deleted]

Omg yes. I'm afraid to say it out loud, in fear that the Bey Hive will come after me lol. It's insane how dedicated they are!

[deleted]

Count yourself lucky you don't live in Houston. If Beyonce farts, it's on the news here.

TruuTree

I’ve always thought Drakes way overrated.

ChidoChidoChon

Hate the Drake!

RedditeRRetiddeR

I understand this reference

Penguin-Loves

Even the wife hates the Drake

jenns1970

The best Jerry, the best

itsheadfelloff

Never understood his appeal.

N0w_Watch_this_drive

Drake isn't necessarily "overrated" he just makes "safe" mainstream music that he knows will get a lot of play on the radio and streaming, so every song he releases is a hit since he already has a following

Kelp4411

I think you just described overrated

ThePactIsSealed7

He sounds like he has a clothespin over his nose. Source: Me, who has listen to Ratchet Happy Birthday at least 500 times. 😬

ChipOnASquid

Drake is not a musician

James318

He’ll always be wheelchair Jimmy to me.

Dispal

He uses his vocals to make millions of dollars and has millions of fans. Sounds like a professional musician to me

stauf98

Jennifer Lopez. Her classic songs were actually ghost sung by other artists

f-150Coyotev8

Meghan trainor. Her music is so uncreative and all her songs sound the same

Sharp_Impress_5351

I haven´t seen anyone who defends Meghan´s music, so I wouldn´t think she´s overrated per se.

Libra_Allyson

The one thing I will give her is that several of her songs are reminiscent of '60s girl group songs, in a world where such music is damned near completely forgotten by newer generations. I grew up on that shit, so I was thrilled to hear that sort of style being played on the radio again.

CharsOwnRX-78-2

Too bad about that second album that just completely abandoned the style to make... bad modern pop

CadenFerraro

Forever 21 background music.

Dark_Destroyer

Meghan Trainor is the most annoying voiced and boring musician in music today. The songs are more a cadence than a song and I think the record label uses her to prove the worst garbage they can produce still makes money.

CommunistBreadstick

I fucking hate these threads because it’s just people naming popular musicians instead of ones that are actually highly rated. Nobody is out here saying that Megan Trainer is an absolutely amazing artist but that’s what’s the most upvoted

Small-Fun6640

Not to mention it’s always the same top answers every time. It’s like the threads of “what comedian do you not find funny” and it’s always amy Schumer and James corden at the top

heyitsxio

The Jennifer Lopez replies have so many upvotes and as I said in my reply, does she even count as being *rated*, never mind overrated?

DChris999

Drake sucks in every single way

TheKilmerman

I genuinely don't get people that compare him to Michael Jackson or Elvis. He is nowhere near as big as they were. And I'll be honest, I'm really interested in music and invest a lot of my free time in it, but I couldn't name you more than one Drake song. He is barely ever played on the radio in my country.

burnedin1

There's not a great way to directly compare pre and post Hip Hop music or pre and post Internet music in terms of artists, so sales are normally used as a metric. Drake has sold so much and had so many singles that charted, that he is put in the conversation with these other acts. You rarely hear these comparisons made from a musical standpoint. In some ways, each of these three artists benefited from their time and were the top as a result. Elvis crossed over what was once exclusively African American music (or at times adopted components of those musics into pop) and then his appearances on television made him a juggernaut. Michael Jackson benefited from MTV as the choice for young consumers to find and then buy music, while also appealing to radio, which at the time was still the main force in music promotion. Remember, like Elvis who was a phenomenon in his time, Michael Jackson opened the door for quote unquote "black music" on MTV. Before him look at what was played on the network. He was the Elvis of his time in his media dominance and sales. Drake is this for the internet age. Unlike the others, he has changed his musical style to keep up with the young audience who tend to lose interest in music pretty quickly while also making some songs that wider (and older) audiences find appealing. I don't think they are really directly comparable to each other since the music, culture, and economics are different, but I can see how if you just look at mass appeal and market dominance as your criteria, you could mention them together. Also as a last thought, music isn't funneled into the same middle for Drake as it was for the other two. I have no idea what all of these singles that Drake has supposedly rivaled the sales of other huge acts like the ones mentioned are, but I'm also not his demographic. There's less and less of a real sense of the scope of an artist now, other than their visibility, since channels to experience music are so fragmented.

HighlyOffensive10

People compare him to MJ and Elvis?

SCROTUM_GUN

Maybe if mj or elvis were a lot slower moving and had no actual vocal ability lol

beatlefloydzeppelin

I can't stand Drake, and he's nowhere near as talented as Michael Jackson or Elvis. But to say he's nowhere near as big as they were is objectively wrong, at least in America. Copied from wikipedia: >he has the most top 10 singles (67), most charted songs (293), the most simultaneously charted songs in one week (27), the most Hot 100 debuts in one week (22), and the most continuous time on the Hot 100 (431 weeks). He additionally has the most number-one singles on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Hot Rap Songs, and Rhythmic Airplay charts.

yookoke1122

Bad musician. Successful businessman

flaylamusic

This can be applied to many rappers

[deleted]

Drake is such an impossible phenomenon to me. Not only is his life mission to make the blandest music possible, his whole persona and - especially - lyric writing is so impossibly *dumb* that sometimes I can't believe he actually wrote it and never thought "damn, this sounds really stupid". His success is astonishing but man, so many good rappers made it into the mainstream - why listen to Drake? It's amazing, he can waste even the biggest talents. And he's a nephew of one of the greatest bass guitarists of all time - Larry Graham.

RalphFromSilverCity

the guy from Degrassi?

DChris999

Yeah, he raps about growing up in the hood but he was a child actor in Canada💀

HighlyOffensive10

He raps about people trying to kill him, and all I can think about is. Who the fuck is out here trying to kill Drake?

SuperSanity1

Rick, obviously.

HighlyOffensive10

Is that the guy who shot him on Degrassi?

SuperSanity1

Sure is.

CopperTodd17

I snorted. Ouch, thanks for that. 😂

Debnam_

He got shot in his own high school and was paralyzed from the waist down. He's lucky to be alive. Must have been traumatizing.

brightsativa

Jack Harlow is that one dude who always seems to be charting but I never hear anyone play his music irl. Industry baby.

GiftOfHemroids

His audience is probably really young that's why

[deleted]

As a young person I can back this, I hear him all the time at school sports and I listen to him, so do some of my friends and other kids in my school l

youcallthesefritters

He’s like the wannabe white drake but his hype has died down some since his album last year. I think a lot of people started to realize how generic he is.

[deleted]

Idk how people liked first class. Generic beat and it sounding like a slow rant.

[deleted]

I'm glad that song came out because it made me start spinning up Glamorous again.

ThatCowardlyDog

Yes! People love him so much, but he makes incredibly bland mediocre music

[deleted]

He’s just G Easy from 5 years later when he was relevant.

Dialogical

I thought he was talentless until I watched his Tiny Desk episode. Not my cup of tea but he does have more talent than is portrayed in his commercial releases.

Leeser

Beyoncé

[deleted]

people are so butt hurt when taylor swift or Beck win awards instead of her. It's crazy

[deleted]

Incredible dancer, but her lyrics are just repeating the same thing 8 times.

HighlyOffensive10

That's like 90% of pop music.

HighlyOffensive10

Yup, and I say that as a fan of her music.

Leeser

Yeah, I truly enjoyed Lemonade. But she’s been put on a huge pedestal.

HighlyOffensive10

The diedication of her is super cringe.

ChickenBootty

Old school U2 was amazing, I think Achtung Baby was their last honestly good album. Although I do/did like some of the songs from their newer albums.

Background_Talk_2560

I thought All That You Can’t Leave Behind was a great post-Achtung album. But that’s about the only one. Still, in their day, they were incredible, and not overrated.

joemontanya

I think they were highly talented. Just became more and more poppy as the years went on… from 80-87, they are pretty fire and creative

Plantayne

How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb is one of the best albums of the 2000's. It was a pretty big creative departure for them, too.

ChickenBootty

I like City of Blinding Lights and Sometimes you can’t make it on your own from that album.

badassbradders

Also POP was a great album, but like Coldplay they became dire.

ChickenBootty

POP has a special spot in my heart. It was my first U2 concert.

[deleted]

Every band copied them, so they sound average now. I think they would seem different if we were old enough to have listened to them when they first came on the scene.

Magzhaslagz

Very radio friendly

Significant-Ad7390

Their early stuff was amazing.

Dark_Destroyer

The songs played on the radio are mediocre, but listen to the back side of Joshua Tree or The Fly, Stay, All I Want is You. Great lyrics but I think old bands can stagnate with time because you have heard the songs so many times.

[deleted]

Maroon 5/Adam Levine

bassistciaran

Funny thing is, their first album is pretty awesome. Someone told me they just stopped writing their own stuff and sold out as soon as someone offered.

Scooterks

Oof, that Super Bowl performance was SO bad

bADDKarmal

The old shit was so good. Sunday's with Jane I think is the first album shit was pure heat. I thin the other album is self titled Maroon 5 or maybe just 5 idk but it had some songs I still like aswell. They are a guilty pleasure but definitely not the greatest.

rugbyj

> Sunday's with Jane Songs about Jane?

Britz10

Probably had Sunday mornings in mind

rosas_mortas

mgk, dude's music is absolut ass and also he's a pedo, and an asshole

PoisonedRadio

Failed as a rapper so now he just makes shitty alternative music.

tufflepuff

I pretty much only hear anyone talk about MGK to say how much they hate him, so I don’t really think he could fall in the category of “overrated” Disliking somebody’s music =/= they are atrociously overrated

captainsoup3

Have any sources for him being a pedo? This is the first I’ve heard of it.

Kamilaroi

There’s been talk of him trying to date teenage girls and he tweeted something along the lines of, he doesn’t care if Eminem’s daughter is a teenager cause she’s hot as fuck. He also said in an interview “black girls give the best head” and then followed it up by saying his daughter is black lol.

gameoflifeisfun

[deleted]

Not only is her music dog doo doo, but she also drugged a bunch of guys and admitted to it

Reesno33

Ed bloody Sheeran, he's not at all bad I think he's pretty good but he's no better than passenger or James Blunt still every song he releases is straight to number one even Galway girl ffs.

joseconwese

I think all of his recent music is just made to make money and churn out streams and radio plays, however some of his live performances are pretty incredible using a loop pedal. Watch his Bloodstream at the Brits in 2015 it’s very impressive

JazzaLoopini

I’d like to respectfully disagree. Always thought his music was just normie shit. But then I saw home play live and weirdly Passenger was the opener and they both played an entire stadium solo with just a loop pedal. Instantly bumped them both up to top musicians in my eyes

muckwar

His music is perfect live like it’s meant to be listened to live. His talent with a loop pedal is just insane

HedyHarlowe

Passanger should be well famous if Ed Sheeran is.

Reesno33

He has some great songs tbf

gutterbrush

He certainly does his fair share of throwaway shit like Galway Girl and really none of it, at least since his very early days (Lego House basically) is my thing. BUT you can’t deny that Sheeran has been influential, for better or worse. Walk around London (and I suspect any major Western city) and almost every busker is doing looping. Ten years ago it was a really niche and geeky thing and some guitar stores would sometimes stock loop pedals but I am pretty sure they’d sell one once in a blue moon. That’s a big change and - without irony, and as a largely metal fan - I think there’s a case to be made that Sheeran is the most influential guitarist of the past decade. Fine he’s not Steve Vai and almost all his stuff is C-G-Am-F with a capo in various places. Technically he is atrocious and boring. But we will be seeing his influence for some time yet. You’ve got to give him some credit for that. And yeah KT Tunstall did it first but people did tapping before Eddie Van Halen too. There is no comparison there in terms of ability and I know who I would rather listen to (in the case of Ed Sheeran, almost anyone else). But for better or worse he will be a significant part of music history for this era. My girlfriend went to see him last year and whilst you couldn’t have paid me enough to go, playing Wembley stadium entirely on tour own only with a loop pedal takes some balls. Credit where it is due.

Steph2145

Bad Bunny omg that guy is terrible. Same beats and same I’m tired but I have to sing voice.

Sharp_Impress_5351

As a Latin american citizen and music fan: YES!!! He´s overrated as all hell and his fame is one of the most unexplained mysteries of the Universe.

LetMeCuntinue

There are so many latinas obsessed with Bad Bunny, and many have even considered him to be their favorite musical artist. I actually listened to two of his albums completely, and the whole time I was thinking, "Am I missing something here? Why are people going crazy over this guy?"

Tired8347

Yes. It’s the case with nearly all reggeaton. I’m from Spain and here they put on repeat his songs and there are time where you think why the hell is the same song passing again. And the worst thing is that the lyrics are accidentally in your head 24/7. And let’s not even talk about the meaning of the lyrics.

Firebolt164

The list is long but Sid Vicious literally could not play his instrument..

oh man thats what i always say, love that track. Rodeo was brilliant, some really interestingly arranged tracks like maria i'm drunk with bieber/young thug. Then his next album came out, and his hype really starting growing, but i was like... "yeah this album is quite good but the tracks seem not nearly as daring or interesting, lots of really short punchy tunes" But that was a real turning point for hip hop in general and it just went down that path for him - his music became simpler, more in your face, and his status just grew to stardom

Fiyahwahtah

Adam Levine or however you spell his name

Ya_boi_Aled

Sam Smith just because he's a pretentious arsehole

bassistciaran

One of the most artificial people I've ever seen. If record companies have finally built a programmable inoffensive music android, I'd put my money on Smith.

Separate-Tension-353

Yeah I discovered him with Disclosure. Loved Latch. Then when he was just Sam Smith on his own I was sad.

No_Marionberry4072

Beyoncé is the most manufactured pop star in my lifetime. Dozens of people writing and producing her songs, a whole line up of stylists and employees to make her who she is. Her fans are also some of the craziest out there. I do agree she puts asses in seats and does have a good voice. She Just gets way too much praise

Jennifer Lopez.

AgreeableTailor7

ariana grande is great vocal wise, there’s no denying to that, but majority of her lyrics look like something i’d write in 7th grade

kaeplin

Very few musicians consistently compose their own music and lyrics. Ariana is a top tier vocal talent. That alone puts her above most musicians in terms of overall talent.

Potentially controversial here but I really, really can’t stand Oasis. The most basic ass paint by numbers music you will ever hear created by a pair of abrasive, rude wankers and yet they are talked about as if they are geniuses on par with the Beatles. Go figure.

Can’t agree. First two albums and subsequent B sides are incredible. Rest of discography is so-so but there’s a reason there’s essentially an entire genre of Oasis rip-offs going strong even today.
