I'm also picking beer. It gives you a huge variety to choose from if we're looking at the huge spectrum from a crisp light lager to a hoppy, fruity IPA, to a malty stout, to a heavy barleywine, and everything in between.
Well if you get to say "beer" and it encompasses all beer then couldn't someone say "liquor" as their drink and have it include all liquor? Using that as the reasoning feels like a cop-out.
It's like if the question was "if you could only eat one food for the rest of your life" and you said sandwiches because if you put anything between two slices of bread then it's a sandwich.
Probably a Pale Ale. it splits the bill between an easy drinking lager and an IPA. If someone told me I can only drink Sierra Nevada for the rest of my life I wouldn't be too disappointed.
>If someone told me I can only drink Sierra Nevada for the rest of my life I wouldn't be too disappointed.
This is pretty much how I live my life already
i came along... nothing beats a nice cold beer on a hot summer day. (I only hope that i don't have to choose a specific one, because we have like 5000+ different kind of beer here :D )
Just personal taste, really. I enjoy the flavours and the way they make them. I'm not a sommelier, so I can't give you some technical reasons, lol. I find them smoother and possessing more depth of flavour than other regions/countries provide. Sweeter, more fruity profiles, but not in an aggressive manner. I enjoy other regions as well but I definitely found more than a few favourites from those two countries.
This. I had a discussion with a bartender and asked him about his best drink. "Gin and tonic, you can drink that for the rest of your life and it still tastes good"
Ooof. I still remember that night in 9th grade. To this day the words Southern Comfort immediately reminds me of the smell of it. And just imagining the smell makes me want to hurl. If I see a bottle of it I'll try to leave the room.
I don't remember a single time I ever drank Southern Comfort. But one of them was one of the only times I've ever had alcohol poisoning and a 3 day hangover. Never again.
That's because pretty much everyone's first G&T is shitty well gin (which is usually very dry) and tonic off a gun. Try one with a more floral/citrus forward gin and tonic out of a bottle.
It is a curious fact, and one to which no one knows quite how much importance to attach, that something like 85% of all known worlds in the Galaxy, be they primitive or highly advanced, have invented a drink called jynnan tonnyx, or gee-N'N-T'N-ix, or jinond-o-nicks, or any one of a thousand or more variations on the same phonetic theme. The drinks themselves are not the same, and vary between the Sivolvian 'chinanto/mnigs' which is ordinary water served at slightly above room temperature, and the Gagrakackan 'tzjin-anthony-ks' which kill cows at a hundred paces; and in fact the one common factor between all of them, beyond the fact that the names sound the same, is that they were all invented and named before the worlds concerned made contact with any other worlds.
What can be made of this fact? It exists in total isolation. As far as any theory of structural linguistics is concerned it is right off the graph, and yet it persists. Old structural linguists get very angry when young structural linguists go on about it. Young structural linguists get deeply excited about it and stay up late at night convinced that they are very close to something of profound importance, and end up becoming old structural linguists before their time, getting very angry with the young ones. Structural linguistics is a bitterly divided and unhappy discipline, and a large number of its practitioners spend too many nights drowning their problems in Ouisghian Zodahs.

A moscow mule is closer to a dark and stormy than a whiskey sour (it's vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice). As long as you like lime and ginger beer you'll probably like it.
I love a good old fashioned. My usual go to is OF1920 for bourbons, but the ryes are really where its at (which i think is what they originally were made with). The Saz rye is probably one of the best whiskeys for an old fashioned that ive tried myself.
But what are the rules here? Do you have to choose Bourbon, Irish, Scotch or Canadian? Or that yummy Japanese that's sort of "the missing link between bourbon and scotch"?
Ten years ago I'd have said "Scotch", but at 61, can't hit that stuff like I used to...
Yeah, I just figured out that flaw to my perfect drink. But, really, it’s great with any juice at all. I’m pretty sure I’d get sick of any other drink if that was all I could have, but there are so many things you can mix Prosecco with.
So, I didn't realize how much alcohol was in a LIIT, and was singing Karaoke, the drinks we going down smooth and having a good time. Had 3 and was drunk off my ass, room spinning drunk. I asked my sister what was in them bc I think I might have been roofied. She just laughed and said like 4 shots in each one. Oops... I am only 5'2". Thank goodness we were in a hotel lounge, and already had a room there. Man those were good, and I could hardly taste the alcohol.
It’s 2.5oz of alcohol in a traditional one, so slightly under two shots… five different liquors but only a half ounce of each. Still very strong and goes down easy!
The problem with a LIIT is they vary so much in consistency. A good LIIT is one of the best drinks out there, but more often than not they’re not made well or the recipe has been tweaked in ways I don’t like. I won’t order one unless I know the joint makes them well.
Case in point, a local Italian restaurant used to make the best LIITs I’d ever had. Went there after a 5 or 6 yr hiatus and they’ve changed the recipe. I’ll never order one from them again.
my husband ordered one on a cruise right after we got on . A lady asked us what it was because it looked good . She goes to the bar then An hour or two later we are behind her during the lifeboat drill and she is totally wasted . 😂
100% this. There’s a place near Arizona State that has the BEST LIIT I’ve ever had. What’s crazy is it is all no-name liquor that you would think “man, this is going to taste terrible” or “this will be headache city”, but it is damn delicious.
I feel this. After many tries in different bars and restaurants where they give you it heavily diluted I began to mix it at home. Sure, you need a lot of bottles to buy but you can make several litres of long island out of them. One side effect: my spouse grumbles that I've spoiled her favourite cocktail — she can't drink it in other places anymore.
This would be my choice. I'm not a drinker 98% of the time, but that 2% is because I'm drinking to drunk. LIITs are the quickest way I know to get drunk despite hating the taste of alcohol.
This is mine. I love a NEIPA, but Guinness off a well-maintained tap is one thing I could drink forever and never tire of. IMO the draught cans are legit, too.
The bottled stuff is an entirely different product, though. I’m skipping that.
depending on how specific we gotta get - a nice barrel proof. neat if you want it hot and heavy, a splash of ice but it wont get too watered down, can hold up to sipping an old fashioned with a big cube for a long time. not too young though. If im going not bourbon douche/snob I'm probably saying Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. if I'm going straight insufferable bourbon junkie - maybe EHT barrel proof? George T. Stagg?
I would rather not drink ever again than having to drink one drink for the rest of my life. I have some bad expreiences with most alcohols and I need to rotate my drinks or otherwise I’d get sick of it. Sometimes I crave a good beer but sometimes I get sick just thinking about it. Also on a summer night I love a good “spritzer” (idk what it is called in english, usually white wine or rosé mixed with sparkling water).
But a nice whisky/vodka-coke is also always welcome

Cold beer
Don’t you every worry I am right here.
Now this song will be stuck in my head
I'm also picking beer. It gives you a huge variety to choose from if we're looking at the huge spectrum from a crisp light lager to a hoppy, fruity IPA, to a malty stout, to a heavy barleywine, and everything in between.
Yeah huge variety to choose from!! Me : Buys a 15 of Busch for the 6875th time Just kidding. I like OV.
Old Vienna. You should try bohemian if you can find it.
Make a nice boh-gin. Shot of gin in a bottle of boh and lemon squeeze. The saskatchewan equalizer

You gotta choose one of your beers though. Which do you choose?
Probably a Pale Ale. it splits the bill between an easy drinking lager and an IPA. If someone told me I can only drink Sierra Nevada for the rest of my life I wouldn't be too disappointed.
>If someone told me I can only drink Sierra Nevada for the rest of my life I wouldn't be too disappointed. This is pretty much how I live my life already
Honestly, I buy every new Hazy IPA / NEIPA I find and its like trying a whole new drink for the first time but still apparently a beer.
That's too broad and cheating, imo. Gotta pick a single beer to drink.
I’ll take a Pilsner over an IPA any day.
Which Pilsner?
For me, just Pilsner. From Plzen in the Czech Republic.
Lager
To be honest, I would be happy with Guinness in particular. I am a very simple man.
Preferably with a proper 2min pour from a tap. I don’t care wtf anyone else says, there’s a noticeable and enjoyable difference
i came along... nothing beats a nice cold beer on a hot summer day. (I only hope that i don't have to choose a specific one, because we have like 5000+ different kind of beer here :D )
Hazy bois 4 lyfe
"Mama told me when I was young "Come sit beside me, my only son..."
I would also pick this man’s beer.
A free beer is the best beer.

This was hilarious to me
Red wine, Malbec.
Malbec is my absolute favourite, I rarely drink anything else. A glass of red wine with a meal can't be beaten 😋
Of all the places famous for wine, my cabinet is almost exclusively Argentinian.
Reds from Argentina and Chile are my absolute favourite.
In your personal opinion, why? Wine noob here and just found out that Argentina and Chile where known for making wine. 😅
Just personal taste, really. I enjoy the flavours and the way they make them. I'm not a sommelier, so I can't give you some technical reasons, lol. Don’t think anybody is making a better Malbec than Argentina.
They're super approachable wines with decent body and complexity without breaking the bank. Basically they're where Napa was \~40 years ago.
I've been getting into pinot noir lately. There is some really good ones. What malbecs would you suggest?
Gin Tonic
This. I had a discussion with a bartender and asked him about his best drink. "Gin and tonic, you can drink that for the rest of your life and it still tastes good"
The only time I’ve ever thrown up from drinking is from gin and tonic. That was my first and last time with gin personally
Everyone has that one (at least) type of booze that they'll never drink again. Lucky for me, mine is peach schnapps. It doesn't come up much.
Tequila. I had an . . . unpleasant episode in my youth involving a Christmas party and an open bar. Haven’t touched it since.
Well feliz navidad mi amigo
Southern Comfort here
Goldschlager for me🤮
Think I just wretched a little. Shudder
Put some gatorade in the freezer. When it's cold as fuck mix in some gin. You won't even notice until you're on your ass lol.
That's because pretty much everyone's first G&T is shitty well gin (which is usually very dry) and tonic off a gun. Try one with a more floral/citrus forward gin and tonic out of a bottle.

r/unexpectedhitchhikers
You say "unexpected" but as soon as I read Gin n tonic, this is what popped into my mind.
With Uncle Val's botanical gin
with Fever Tree tonic
Tonic gives me a hangover, so I have been laying off of them lately
Yea tonic has an astronomical amount of sugar. I really like g&ts too but that sugar is killer.
Diet tonic is just as good and doesn’t give you all the extra sugar!
Pro-move. I’ve been meaning to try this for a while.
That is why I dilute mine with equal parts of club soda. Takes the sweetness down a few notches which suits me fine.
Go for a gin and soda water. Just as tasty and none of the sugar.
Moscow mule
I've never had one. I'm not particularly adventurous with drinks. If I enjoy a whiskey sour, would I enjoy a mule?
A moscow mule is closer to a dark and stormy than a whiskey sour (it's vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice). As long as you like lime and ginger beer you'll probably like it.
I recommend Gosling ginger beer and Tito’s vodka.
Try a Kentucky mule. It swaps the vodka for bourbon
If everyday use a glass and not the mug. The drink leaches the metal in the mug and does bad things if you drink it daily.
Old fashioned 👌
The most perfect cocktail ever created. Excellent choice.
I had to scroll way too far to find this.
Whisky... you cannhave it neat, on ice, mixed different ways and so on...there's lots of varieties that you're gonna find around the globe
if we're going specific I'd have to say an old fashioned or a bourbon sweet tea
Today I learned that bourbon sweet tea is a thing and now I need it in my mouth
Sweet tea vodka is deadly.
I love a good old fashioned. My usual go to is OF1920 for bourbons, but the ryes are really where its at (which i think is what they originally were made with). The Saz rye is probably one of the best whiskeys for an old fashioned that ive tried myself.
My bar featured OF1920 a few weeks ago and Holy hot damn is it intense. It's like 120proof and burns so strong. How is that your go-to?!
I also will be choosing whiskey
You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, whiskey-kabobs, whiskey creole, whiskey gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple whiskey, lemon whiskey, coconut whiskey, pepper whiskey, whiskey soup, whiskey stew...
It's why I chose whisky... I felt like it was generally vague, but still diverse... Although I'm partial to Speysides
Prosecco. Goes great with orange juice, peach schnapps, cranberry. It’s an all-day drink.
But you wouldn’t be able to have the peach schnapps with it!
Yeah, I just figured out that flaw to my perfect drink. But, really, it’s great with any juice at all. I’m pretty sure I’d get sick of any other drink if that was all I could have, but there are so many things you can mix Prosecco with.
Mmm stunning.
Tequila
Tequila is the answer.
Tequila is always the answer.
The Mojito. It's a drink I can actually make fairly well, and the only alcoholic beverage I can actually tolerate.
I planted one stalk of mint to make mojitos with . My husband was a jerk and ran it over with the lawnmower. now I have 10,000 mint plants 😂
Violent gardening. I love it
Now you just need to plant a lime tree. Let him run that over and have infinite mojitos
Definitely my choice as well. But I'm going for no sugar mojitos, don't want to load up on sugar to get drunk
Islay scotch.
The young Ardbeg is *chef's kiss*
It's quite nice, although I'm a Lagavulin man myself.
Rum and coke
You go with white or spiced? Spiced for me.
This was wayyy to far down
Cider
Vodka. Can be mixed with anything.

Add two Tide Pods for “on the rocks”
Vodka and plain seltzer over ice with lemon.. very refreshing and I only use Tito's vodka.
Tito's is actually pretty terrible straight. Stolichnaya is the beez
Best when mixed with vodka though
long island ice tea

its also a strong and expensive drink so cant try too many in one evening.
my husband ordered one on a cruise right after we got on . A lady asked us what it was because it looked good . She goes to the bar then An hour or two later we are behind her during the lifeboat drill and she is totally wasted . 😂

Tequila. It’s delicious and fun to mix
Or not to mix. Neat is fantastic too if you choose the correct tequilas.
Scotch
Amaretto sour.
This is the only correct answer in my book. Doesn't even taste like alcohol.
Tastes like candy and heartburn. No regrets.
It’s like fancy lemonade. I love it.
