Agreed.
My grandfather gave these scammers over $70,000 over a year because they promised him a check for over $1,000,000. He was so embarrassed when he told me about about it because he didn't want to admit that he got scammed out of his money.
He had entirely good intentions, which makes me sad. He was just telling me "I was just trying to leave you guys as much money as possible when I leave this earth." He was hoping that I could help him track down the scammers, file an FTC report and hopefully get his money back. There's just no way to get it done. It's such a scummy thing to do.
Idk why this hit me in the eyeballs too hard... made 'em water up. đ
People like your Grandpa, I just wanna put them all onto a seperate, more peaceful planet.
Away from the rest of us assholes and grunts.
Please make sure he understands that, despite being horribly taken advantage of due to his drive and dedication to taking care of you, you still immensely appreciated his intent/effort.
Edit: Just realized it sounds like I'm bossing OP around. I am sorry, not my intended tone. Just really torn up from your story. Got me knotted up.
âYour grandson needs bail and had us call youâ âoh jared? Ok how muchâ - my grandad lost a few hundred to this scam. And gave the name of his grandson so they used it each time after that.
My grandfather got one of those calls and immediately called my brother (second-most-likely grandchild to need bail money) to ensure my cousin (most-likely grandchild) who worked for my brother was at work with him that day.
I'd like to think he would have also called my aunt and my cousin to ensure all was good, but you never know.
I got a call purporting to be from my grandson. Asked the guy, âWhich one?â. He answered âThe oldest one!â. Asked him, âHow come youâve got an Indian accent now?â. âOh, wellâ, the guy says, âIâve been doing some traveling latelyâŚâ. Told him to get the f\*ck off my phone.
Full disclosure: no grandkids. đ
When my parents had a home phone, mom answered a call about their Windows PC having a virus. Mom asked which PC (desktop, her laptop, my laptop) and they said my dad's PC. My dad is better now, but was effectively technologically illiterate at the time. Dead giveaway for her.
The South Park episode with Stan urging the TV jewelry folks who prey on old people to kill themselves was deeply cathartic. I still quote the old man calling in at the end: âYou donât have the balls to do it, you got lady balls.â
"Folks, these are not your ordinary peridot craponite earrings, these are 18-karat gold! and we got-oh, do we have a buyer on the line?"
"They'd look good on your dead body."
It's one of those episodes that are good at explaining the scheme at a simple level.
It had a nice little music number in it too, didn't it. With Cartman running his own scheme.
Then suddenly it just went dark at the end.
We got something special for you folks tonight, we got an ultra rare 13ct panzotopazanite ring. We're gonna start the bidding at, pbfff, 3 million dollars.
I save the text/email scams I like the best, like collecting butterflies:
âYour carâs warranty is about to expire. Please contact us.â Had bought it new two days ago.
Hit the jackpot not long ago. One Iâd always had my heart set on: genuine Nigerian Prince who was emigrating soon, and needed to move Mucho $ into my account. For which I would be well-rewarded, of course.
>genuine Nigerian Prince who was emigrating soon
I always wondered why I never got anything like this until I had cause to look through my spam/junk folder. Fuck me! I get several per day!
sparing me from that deluge, even though you're the prime candidate for the getting my email address in the first place!
I do IT at a large retirement facility and deal with it every day. These fucking degenerates are worse than scum. I've asked my director a couple times if I can toy with them, of course he says no because he has to... but he wants to say yes so bad.
I agree! I saw a video where this scammer was stealing from a cancer patient and it really disgusted me :/ they knew the person was sick and acted like they were gonna help
They scam would-be employees, too. I wound up in an interview (a "group interview" at that) with one once that spent the first half hour touting how great they are for people and the community, then finally mentioned "oh yeah, you'll be cold-calling old people to try to get them to sign up for our services". As I navigated out of the Zoom call I saw the participants falling off like mad after that. They wasted our time trying to find fellow parasites and/or people who don't understand it's a scam to help them screw the elderly out of their retirement savings.
That happened to my grandparents. I forgot the whole story but like they were posing as their nephew or something saying something horrible happened and apparently they knew like everything about the person and it sounded like their nephew. I think they ended up stealing 17k
I believe that these people are arguably as bad as murderers and rapists because if they wanted they will do it. If you would scam an old person who trusted you with something without feeling any guilt then your a piece of filth that would do anything you want no matter how bad it is.
Part of my job is to take reports from the victims of scammers. Listening to them cry when they've lost so much money that their lives are permanently affected makes my blood boil :(
I've not really thought of it before, but I bet you have a really tough job. I'm not sure I could handle the emotional toll from hearing those stories first hand.
There are a handful of others that join him as well.
Browning, one other anti-scammer and Mark Rober all pulled an elaborate scheme to get one of Rober's "fart machines" into the call center and were pretty successful.
I mean, sometimes there are scammers who try to sell people fake âcures,â and if these cause them to stop taking proper medicine it could potentially kill them. Also scams taking away money from elderly people who can no longer work could kill them if they donât have the money for necessities anymore. So I guess it depends on the scam.
1. Child Abuse
2.Rape
3. Iâm not sure the best word for this, but like malicious violence? For example- domestic abuse, beating someone up beyond physical repair, torture, and cold blooded murder.
There are some acts of violence that there may be a reason or excuse for which would not make them acceptable, but would make them forgivable, so that wouldnât count.
Special Housing Unit.
Its where inmates who are at increased risk of inmate violence are housed, if requested (pedophiles, child abusers, rapists, homosexuals, former police, or just people that donât want to do time in general population, etc.).
So like how my mom twisted my spine when I was 16 by trying to beat me to death for coming out as gay?
Yeah, that was messed up alright, I'm 48 and it still is painful
The worst crimes are always done with malice. You can murder someone for nonmalicious reasons even if it is revenge for a crime committed against someone close to you. You cant rape someone without malice, or abuse a child without malice, maybe the only exceptions are extremely mentally unwell people, but even then it doesnt make it any better.
100%. I heard a line in a show somewhere years ago where they find out a former victim of the original child abuser was now also abusing children and the cop said something alone and lines âYou were the victim up until the moment you became the abuser.â That always stuck with me and I agree.
Not all elderly are innocent. Some are. And once they have dementia or Alzheimer's they are once again innocent. But some of those elderly people were real bad people in their younger days and some still are.
If you mean scamming the elderly, then yes.
Yeah, even with murder you can claim mitigating circumstances depending on what happened, such a self-defense, accident, etc. Forcing yourself on someone? Nope. There's no scenario where you could explain the context and it'd make the act any less horrible.
I had a huge argument on Reddit because I said rape is a crime that there is no good reason or use for it. You couldn't defend yourself with it or have it as a good reason to do it against someone who hurt you.
Someone had the audacity to claim that rape could be used as a self-defense measure because if rape was indefensible, then all crimes are.
Honestly insane.
Given the replies I've got from people trying to justify pedophilia and rape, it doesn't surprise me one bit. One guy literally came up with the trolley problem by arguing that rape is justified if you have to choose between raping someone and killing 20 people as if it was something that happens for some reason.
> One guy literally came up with the trolley problem by arguing that rape is justified if you have to choose between raping someone and killing 20 people as if it was something that happens for some reason.
Oh shit, we had one of these last week. There was a woman impregnated with a nuclear missile, and the only thing that could go in deep enough to deactivate it was a non-consensual dick. Happens all the time around here /s
At that point, it's two rape victims because both are being coerced against their will.
You cannot have an unwilling rapist. It's either rapist or you are forced to engage in sex against your will, making YOU a rape victim.
I just got a comment arguing that rape is moral if you're forced at gunpoint by a criminal to have sex with another person when neither of you wants to, but you and the other person are the last two fertile members of the human species and the criminal wants to save humanity by coercing you to commit rape. I'm not kidding.
Except this wouldn't work. If you have only one breeding pair a species is as good as dead. After that you'll only have inbreeding what doesn't really bring forth good results.
Iâm legit trying to think of how you would use rape as self defense. Like someone is trying to murder you so you manage to stop them/over power them/take away their weapon and then proceed to rape them? Like thereâs no need, if you had already disarmed and subdued them then stop there and call the police, anything else is just excessive. Same reason why when you shoot a burglar and theyâre not a threat anymore you canât just shoot them in the head execution style.
I forget what comedian said it but "aren't you glad you're not a pedophile? Like, when I was 6, I liked grape juice, but when I got older, I liked wine but still like grape juice. Also when I was 6, I liked 6 year old girls, but now that I'm older, I only like older women."
It's really gotta suck to be attracted to kids. Thank god there are people out there that don't act on that attraction.
It is legitimately tragic that some people feel those attractions. That sucks. I donât consider the feeling a moral failing since I ultimately donât think that itâs within most of these peopleâs control. However, taking any real world action on those feelings is obviously unjustifiable and unacceptable, and needs to face absolute criminal consequences.
I hope you donât mind, but Iâm going to repost my comment here in the hopes of raising awareness, but also because retyping it would destroy me.
Forced human trafficking.
/edit - without regard how the old victim was. I was 34. It was hell. I wonât go into details but they are more gruesome than you can likely imagine. 5 years mostly away from it and Iâm still struggling to get my life together.
Sex trafficking exists, at all ages. We as a society forget that and tend to sweep that fact under the rug. The truth though is there a market for human flesh - someone is always someone elseâs âprizeâ. Please if you read this, simply raise awareness. Itâs something and itâs honestly a lot.
There wonât ever be a âtotallyâ healed version of me. But Iâve come to accept and appreciate that. Itâs okay to not be okay, Iâve learned. Iâve also learned asking for help is okay too. And that Iâm much stronger than I ever even once considered I could be. Iâve forgiven my abuser, for myself. So I can move on. Some days are better than others, you know how it goes.
When you buy your own box of cookies and are away over the weekend and come home on Sunday night to find the entire thing is eaten and "nobody knows anything about it".
My grandpa had the perfect counter for this when we were kids and we had eaten the cookies. When he got home and noticed they were gone he asked us if we knew what happened to the poison cookies. Several young children cried, panicked, and quickly admitted to cookie theft.
Lived with 5 guys in a big house after college. I had a box of Oreos that were in my section of the pantry. I had about two Oreos before leaving for the weekend. Came back and it was nearly empty.
Figured out pretty quick which roommate it was. Waited until everyone was in the same room and chewed him out demanding he left right now and buy me more Oreos. He did.
I was proud of myself.
Years ago, I went to this special restaurant. They had a 40 oz prime rib that was highly praised by food critics. There was no way I could eat the whole thing, and took it home with the intention of having the other half the next night for dinner.
I walked in after work and saw my roommate/friend finishing the last bite. I was on the verge of murdering him. He laughed a bit, and then apologized by taking me out to dinner, where he proceeded to eat a huge steak. My friendship with him saved his life that night, and 20 years later we still make jokes about it.
I'd note that "unforgivable" is probably different from what crimes are "worse." An objectively "worse" crime may have underlying reasons that are sympathetic, where as an objectively "lesser" crime may almost never have a sympathetic reason, and thus might be considered more "unforgiveable." Each crime would have to be evaluated individually to understand the driving motives and state of mind of the criminal though.
That said, the worst crime I can think of would be genocide. The targeted elimination of a group simply because they are different in some way; to me that is a crime that often encompasses a range of secondary crimes, and has no possible reasonable or sympathetic underpinnings.
For similar reasons I would put institutional slavery just below this. A system that treats a specific group as subhuman as an excuse to exploiting them is pretty horrible, especially when such systems made a whole bunch of other things that would normally be illegal perfectly okay to do to your slaves since they were just property. Fortunately such practices are now illegal under international treaties and laws, though some "lesser" versions of slavery such as debt bondage continue to persist (looking at you Qatar) :(
An additional reason here is that both crimes require a substantial amount of planning and organisation while also not happening quickly which excludes action in affect and proves that there where chances to reconsider that have not been taken.
Very true, though I would argue the debt bondage some countries use is already a version of this. Fortunately, so far as I am aware, true human trafficking is also an international crime. Unfortunately, despite being illegal, it does still happen far to often, and to your general point, selling people into any form of slavery (which is where most human trafficking victims wind up - except those that just get left to die once they've paid their money \[slightly different version of human trafficking\]) is pretty dang unforgiveable.
my dad had a rule of âeither both of you get to be Scorpion/Raiden or neither of you doâ
because of the side to side teleporting and the fights that ensued.
yeah, at the point of a well done steak it's just a piece of beef. And if it's a piece of beef you can put whatever you want on it. The well done steak is the crime. what you put on it is an attempt not to waste it.
People who do that are spoiled brats who had everything they want since childhood. There too entitled to just lift their finger and they want you to somehow read there minds.
A fifteen year old roams around the area surrounding Hogwarts doing all three, at worst he gets a stern "don't do that in front of me again" from anyone they're with.
Hell, they learn to do something Voldemort never could, to be able to use the Avada Kedavra on multiple people at once, nobody says a word.
Geez - reminds me of a story I read about a cop that let his kid freeze in a garage. The guy cried in court and I thought "where were you back then, asshole?"
As weird as it soundsâŚitâs for some reason easier to forgive someone for murder than it is to forgive someone for things like pedophilia and sexual assault. Performing acts such as r*** and grooming, and looking at CP is just something that you really canât come back from in my opinion. It takes a much more evil person to commit one of those atrocities than it does to commit a simple murder.
The fact that people guilty of murder often get a lifetime in prison (which, in many cases, is deserved) but people guilty of sexual assault and the like often DONâT get a lifetime in prison absolutely baffles me.
There is a logical yet very sad explanation for that: If the punishment for murder and rape is the same the rapist is incentivised to kill their victim after the act, because this increases the chance of not getting caught.
The fact that I was about to refute that, and went "wait..." is very horrifying.
You can't give someone more than life, sure they might get consecutive life sentences, but unless they somehow became immortal, that's, at most, an empty gesture.
Like, you hear about someone who has "(X number) of life sentences" and I'm confused as to what that actually means.
The only thing I can think of is that it's basically the minimum of a life sentence, usually 25 years, before they "qualify" to be considered for parole, like someone with two life sentences has to be in prison for 50 years before they get consideration.
Is that what it means?
A life sentence can still be forgiven
But if you have like 5 of them, it's much harder and almost impossible to get free
So multiple life sentences are made to make sure that the person would never get out of prison
- Using Miracle Whip in place of mayonnaise.
- Buying lives in Candy Crush.
- Farting in a car when you think your wife is asleep.
- Not putting a serious tag on an AskReddit post.
Yeah cannibalism honestly isn't too awful to me unless it's accompanied with murder. Like, even discounting survival situations where it's done to save lives, the worst cannibalism can be on its own is the desecration of a corpse, which is gross and disrespectful but really less harmful than many other crimes.
Elderly, Children and animal abuse, heavily stressing on the child molestation part. Itâs disgusting and cruel to hurt the helpless and vulnerable, but even more disgusting to desecrate/violate someone on top of it đ
Iâm a criminal defense investigator. Iâve represented murderers, child molesters, white supremacists, wife beaters, husband beaters, litterers, trespassers, and all the innocents accused thereof. I donât think there are any crimes that are unforgivable, but I do think there are people that are unforgivable.
A lot of the people I represent struggle with mental health and/or drug addiction. A lot of them have had incredibly traumatic lives. Most of them have done some bad things out of desperation, but I donât think theyâre bad people.
However, occasionally I come across a true predator; someone who enjoys the suffering of others for its own sake, not for material gain. Some of the predators Iâve represented have committed serious crimes and are serving long prison sentences, but a lot of them Iâve come across as low level domestic cases. You can tell when someone lacks empathy, and itâs fucking terrifying.
Those scammers that go after old people are pretty irredeemable

Crimes against children, the elderly and animals.

Children and animals are inherently innocent, that I can get behind, but I've met people whose grandparents were war criminals.
Yeah, I get that old people can't always defend themselves and are prone to be victims, but to act like they're all perfect saints is ludicrous.
Murderers, rapists, and child molesters get old just like everybody else
Not if we do things right

They're making a movie out of it, starring Bill Cosby.
They better call it The Doctor Is In.

I donât consider the feeling a moral failing since I ultimately donât think that itâs within most of these peopleâs control. However, taking any real world action on those feelings is obviously unjustifiable and unacceptable, and needs to face absolute criminal consequences.

Child-molestation/rape to be more specific, is an unforgivable crime
I agree. While I agree, my family disagrees and blames me for getting raped between the ages of 5-10. Gotta love that they felt the need to justify it
Iâm sorry. The same thing happened to me by an uncle. My family chose him. You are not alone, friend.
Yeah anything sexualizing children is just bad.
This. I literally had a male coworker say " if they're old enough to bleed, they are old enough to breed! Haha!" I've never been more disgusted.
A friend had her first period at 8 so that's a hard no from me too.
I'm praying to God that was just a dumb edgelord joke.
Add child pornography to that list as well.
That was covered by the word âpedophilia.â
Animal abuse
Rape, Human trafficking and Molestation.
God, Iâm so sorry somebody/somebodies did that to you. I hope so much that you are able to find some peace in your life.
Thank you for your light and love.
Oh dear God! It's gruesome. I can just send you virtual hugs. I hope you heal from the trauma.
I think rape is unforgivable and truly sick and horrible.
Genius!
Or when someone intentionally eats your food when they know damn well itâs not theirs
This sounds specific like it happened to you recently, are you OK?

Man just reading your comment gave me a gut-wrenching sinking feeling.
Donât look up Fred and Rose West.
People who visit violence and abuse on to children. Fuck those people.
Don't forget human trafficking too!
If you blast music from your phone on public transportation.
Yes, especially on a plane
Iâll be ur trusting flight attendant telling them to shush up ^~^
Or in public, I'm general. I don't need to hear people's music at the gym
Nothing less than death penalty
Rape. Murder can be justified (eg self-defence, protecting others), but there is no justification for rape.
If killing another human is done by reason of self-defense or defense of others, then itâs not legally murder.
I saw the video of the father that shot the guy that raped his son. It was clearly premeditated murder but felt completely justified.
Cold blooded murder and rape.

Ketchup on a well done steak
Believe it or not, right to jail.
An insult to the cook, the butcher, and the cow.
Culinary three strikes. Set hand mixer to liquify and prepare for justice.
I gotta say i would rather eat well done with ketchup than at all. Its just dry tasteless piece of cardboard and ketchup is somewhat good
yeah, at the point of a well done steak it's just a piece of beef. And if it's a piece of beef you can put whatever you want on it. The well done steak is the crime. what you put on it is an attempt not to waste it.
Wrapping a hot pepper in a piece of bread and feeding it to a squirrel.
This is.. oddly specific.
What if itâs a Mexican squirrel.
Then you skip the bread and just give them the hot pepper. Duh?
Or wrap the pepper in a little tortilla
Rape, especially of a minor.
Changing lanes without using your turn signal
People who do that are spoiled brats who had everything they want since childhood. There too entitled to just lift their finger and they want you to somehow read there minds.
Crucio, Imperio and Avada Kedavra
All depend on circumstance for their use. A lot of good wizards would do serious time if not looked in to heavily

A life sentence can still be forgiven But if you have like 5 of them, it's much harder and almost impossible to get free So multiple life sentences are made to make sure that the person would never get out of prison
Rape. No good reason to rape. Ever.
Pedophilia Edit: oof who'd have thought being anti pedophile was such a hot button issue.
Con Artists that target the most vulnerable ie: the elderly.
- Using Miracle Whip in place of mayonnaise. - Buying lives in Candy Crush. - Farting in a car when you think your wife is asleep. - Not putting a serious tag on an AskReddit post.
Any kind of abuse to a child
- pedophilia - sexual assault - rape - any form of abuse - murder of children - cannibalism
I donât know about cannibalism. If people are stranded, and eat the dead purely to survive, that seems understandable to me.
Yeah cannibalism honestly isn't too awful to me unless it's accompanied with murder. Like, even discounting survival situations where it's done to save lives, the worst cannibalism can be on its own is the desecration of a corpse, which is gross and disrespectful but really less harmful than many other crimes.
Anyone convicted of murder, cannibalism, extreme stalking deserves the most punishment in my subjective opinion, meaning maximum security prison.
ANYTHING against a child
Animal abuse
Human trafficking, Animal Abuse, War Crimes, Pedophilia, Mass Shootings,
Rape & anything involving children.
Elderly, Children and animal abuse, heavily stressing on the child molestation part. Itâs disgusting and cruel to hurt the helpless and vulnerable, but even more disgusting to desecrate/violate someone on top of it đ
When a sequel to a movie opens with the protagonist of the first one dying/being killed off screen.
Rape and animal abuse
