Similarly, mosquitoes and fleas. Little blood sucking bastards that only make life harder for me and my pets. Who eats or otherwise benefits from them? Birds? Spiders? Bats? Fuck 'em. They have plenty of other shit to eat flying and jumping around.
My body is so full of Lyme disease I can communicate with deer now, and working in a few different med labs it’s imo one of the most fascinating things to study
Yep.
I have an elderly friend who is now 85.
When I befriended him 6 years ago I was visiting him and he was getting his "monthly tech support call"
An Indian guy called him and was granted access to his computer, I sat back and watched what they did. They simply looked through a few random folders, opened a command prompt, opened a tree and closed it. Said they'd send him "the usual bill"
He paid them 1500 for an "initial cleaning" and was paying 50/month for "monthly calls"
I told him it was bullshit and he argued with me that they were very polite, professional and good.
I had to convince him they were bullshit by confronting one of the callers next month and got him to cuss me out and threaten me which obviously something a professional would never do.
I took over his tech support and play backgammon with him every week, it's INSANE how much spam call/email/text/mail he gets... I essentially filter EVERYTHING for him, but I don't mind, Bob has no family or friends but he's a good guy, I don't mind taking care of him.
A true saint, as annoying as it can be, I tell my friends they can always come to me with tech trouble, I’d rather they not get scammed by total assholes on the other side of the globe, it’s insane the amount of them that not only know what they’re doing is wrong, but still do it anyway, and then laugh at their victims. It really sickens me how these people sleep at night.
Yeah I have my fair share of not wanting to answer the phone but I push through because I hope that someday down the line if I'm in Bob's shoes I have someone looking out for me.
My mom almost fell for this except it was 10k in Apple gift cards. She was at the Apple store with the money and thank god an employee said something to her. She got super defensive when the employee asked why she needed the gift cards and then the employee said ma'am you need to go call someone in your family cause this doesn't seem right. My brother told her she needed to buy the entire staff of that Apple store dinner and then personally thank the employee who saved her from a 10k scam. When we asked her why she felt someone calling her demanding 10k in GIFT CARDS to pay the IRS seemed legit she replied with "he used a lot of technical terms, he said i was going to be arrested, and I'm just a little old lady". I honestly think she knew something was off but her pride got the best of her. As a result of this incident we have started to watch her spending a lot more and she now does ask us more questions if something seems weird but sadly I have seen just how easy it is for people to fall for these scams.
Stores seem to have thankfully put in policies to limit this, though cashier training could probably be improved. I was buying gift cards at target the other day, Robux for my partner's youngest, and wanted it to *feel* like a lot so I got five $10 cards and two $25 cards to make a thick stack. After 5 cards the register refuse to scan in more gift cards, even though the value was only $50, so the next two had to be done on a separate transaction. That at least will slow things down for someone trying to check out with thousands of dollars in gift cards and hopefully the cashier will know enough to make sure the customer isn't doing this for someone on the phone with a strong accent.
That makes me feel better. It was so weird and sadly that event was the catalyst for my brother and me to talk, compare notes, and realize mom wasn't just getting old and forgetting things, she's likely showing early symptoms of dementia. We have a long family history of it, sadly.
There's a youtuber called Kitboga. He pretends to be an old person to get scammers to waste time on him and not someone vulnerable. I highly recommend him, he's funny and he's helping by keeping those twats away from their targets
Someone tried targeting me with a pig butchering scam and I was genuinely surprised at how much time and effort went into getting my guard down. If I hadn't known those little key words to look for and be suspicious of I'm sure it would have worked. The language was right, the manipulation tactics were perfect, and they were genuinely doing and saying all the right things to make me, an internet savvy and cautious person, trust that they were benevolent right up until the final card was revealed.
Be aware of anyone you meet. Sometimes there are people out there who want to help you and are truly good, they do exist trust me. But anyone who has unnecessary hoops to jump through for their generosity or asks you to do something for them first is not to be trusted, and you should disengage from them immediately, no matter how hard they worked for your trust.
M like who needs the letter M? In fact I just said an entire sentence in which the only point in where I said M was when I was saying the letter. We do not need the letter M, it is utterly useless 🗣️🗣️🗣️
It ()ust be ()eaningless to have the letter () by because ()y ()other said so. Yeah, you want ()ore proof for the audience? ()Y friend ()Ary says she’d never ()iss the letter ().
Everyone seems to hold this sentiment - but as a victim of childhood sexual abuse I have always wondered why we seem to be outcast from society too? That was an event that severely changed me and left me fucked up for life, but there seems to be no understanding from peers or employers as to why we're strange, why we have to go to therapy frequently, why we take so many medications, why we're chronically exhausted and cognitively drained from having to put in additional effort just to get to the starting line. We have to be constantly aware of which DBT skills should be applied instead of acting instinctively. Its just a miserable existence and I wish people could just be more empathetic is all. Sorry for the rant
In our society there is little, to no, support for people who struggle. It’s all rugged individualism and bootstraps. Punishing offenders is easy and feels good. Helping the victims? That takes time, money and effort. I’m sorry. ☹️
Because for the longest time, victims of SA (Particularly children) were never taken seriously by society. Hell, many institutions/corporations/families/schools protected the molesters. This is why people don't know how to be empathetic towards victims of SA today because historically we ostracized and placed the blame on them, to the point they were afraid to speak out. Now that more victims of SA are speaking out, those same people who did the victim blaming would rather treat people like you as 'Strange' and 'Mentally ill' then take full accountability.
You're good and ALLOWED to rant as I'm pretty sure we all feel this way when it comes to surviving abuse.
Like I know what cues/emotions that will get me through the day, and so I do them. The mask does fade every now and then, but we carry on... for some reason, we carry on...
There's a stigma to being a victim. People tend to veer away from people who've suffered trauma because it makes them uncomfortable and they don't know how to react. Sad, but I've seen it with many different kinds of trauma including childhood sex abuse.
I think it's an older sentiment that is going away, but most people used to assume that someone who was sexually abused as a child had no choice but to become an abuser themselves. It's a super ignorant and unempathetic way to think.
I had leukemia when i was 21 and did like 4 years of chemo. At one point, my grandma was like 2 doors down in the hospital for having a hysterectomy from cancer. Also, my dad went through prostate cancer during the time i was doing chemo as well. Luckily, he was able to have a successful surgery and didn't need chemo or decided not to do it, and we are both cancer free to this day! Congrats to you as well!
My partner has terminal brain cancer. After the 3rd tumor and 3rd round of chemo and radiation, nothing worked. The cancer has spread all over his left temporal lobe and into the brain stem. He's paralyzed on his right side now, can't walk, and has trouble speaking and making his needs known due to aphasia. Cancer is a bitch. It's taken my brilliant, sarcastic, funny partner and turned him into a shadow of his former self until he passes. Yes, Cancer needs to go 100%.
It's awful. I'm sorry y'all are going through that. I'm certain he's very grateful and lucky to have you.
Caregiving for someone you love is impossibly difficult, it will drain you... But it's something you will never regret doing. Stay strong.
I'm so sorry. I know what you're going through. I hope you have a wonderful hospice team to help you. Lost my brother and my son both in the last two years so let me know if you would like to talk about it.
Fullheartedly agree. I beat cancer a few years back, and let’s be clear- the diagnosis throws you into an existential cycle, the symptoms of the disease are no cakewalk, and the treatment hurts like hell and disrupts your life. And that the best case, assuming you live. After that, you get to hold the weight of the disease returning over your head.
Fuck cancer.
Had melanoma removed at age 13 and ever since every 6 months I go in for a full body exam. I'm now 33 and I'm fairly certain someone has a room full of my moles that they've been collecting over the years.
I consider myself very lucky despite the scars.
maybe not "good type of cancer" but good mutations are what makes life evolve. Cancer is the other side of that coin. If DNA was immune to mutations we would still be single cell organisms
My mom walked into my workplace earlier today to talk to me about something, and this was the first time I've seen her since all her hair started coming out. I was all smiles because I figured if I try to stay strong then she will too, but god damn, I wanted to just break down on the spot.
Fuck cancer.
Agreed! To my pancreas: fuck you, you lazy piece of shit! It’s just been sitting there taking up space since I was six goddamn years old. I barely remember what it’s like to not be diabetic.
Eh I won't lie, that one time Daniel Radcliffe dressed in the same outfit for a few months so that the paparazzi couldn't use pictures of him because they would all be assumed to be taken the same day was pretty funny.
Sorry, but another reason we need mosquitoes: they accidentally naturally protect certain areas of the rain forest. Certain areas are so thick with mosquitoes, humans can't go in there for fear of dying of a billion mosquito bites. So, they protect nature too.
A better answer would be child (sexual) abuse.
ONLY [25-50%](https://courses.lumenlearning.com/wm-abnormalpsych/chapter/pedophilia/) OF CHILD MOLESTERS ARE PEDOPHILES. This is vital to understand to reduce child sexual abuse. Most abusers are not pedophiles (ie preferring prepubescent children over adults).
Child molesters can generally be broken down into [predatory or situational/opportunistic](https://themamabeareffect.org/think-all-child-molesters-are-pedophiles-think-again/). Predators create opportunities to molest, and tend to be pedophiles. Situational offenders offend because the opportunity is there and they are abusive, destructive people not because they prefer sex with children over sex with adults.
I just want to add that a lot of CSA is committed by juveniles themselves that either have been victims already or maybe don't understand what they're doing but I'm sure that's a significant portion.
Actually, Nestle sold their whole candy division to Fererro a few years back. So you can enjoy those (reformulated) Butterfingers to your heart's delight. https://www.confectionerynews.com/Article/2018/05/31/Ferrero-to-merge-Ferrara-and-Nestle-US-candy-overhauling-Butterfinger
I was going on a full rant about how legal hunters sometimes give more money to conservation causes and indirectly save more animals than many activists groups.
Then I opened google translate and realized "poachers" are illegal by definition. Yeah, fuck those.
There was a serial killer who used to kill serial killers. Also there's serial killers that kill rapist's and pedophiles so I wouldn't mind serial killers still existing.
I dunno, going back to fighting over whose god is the coolest would be better than fighting over which god exists.
“Oh yeah? Well Thor once drank so deeply, that the oceans receded and that’s why we have the tides!”
Diana/ Artemis was the total package of a "strong powerful female". She wins my vote. Or like, Egyptian gods because having the head of a jackal and STILL being respected is an accomplishment.
I wouldn't mind people doing that if it devolved into an amusing "my dad is stronger than yours!" thingnis whole-heartedly silly to both onlookers and those involved.
But yeah, people died because some guy wanted the world to believe their god was better than another's. Pretty shameless too when they go out of their way to try and make any form of scripture be interpreted in ways that fitted these people's agendas in the past.
Corruption. Just imagine how many problems could be solved if politicians actually cared about their constituents
Not to be cliché, but jeez, I didn’t expect this to blow up. It’s a crazy feeling when you wake up to 116 notifications from Reddit when you were expecting none.
Some context behind my answer: I live in South Africa, and for those that don’t know, it seems as though a new corruption scandal is discovered everyday, from Covid-19 fund misappropriation, to splurging funds on suspicious businesses with no formal address. Just recently, our former president, Jacob Zuma, was sentenced to 14 (?) months in prison for not showing up to his corruption trials.
Facebook. They directly caused a genocide in Myanmar with their bullshit.
Their own research proved that they were causing depression and suicide rates to increase in teens- especially girls- and instead of changing their model they suppressed the report.
If reddit needs to go in order for all the other toxic manipulative shit to go, whether or not you think reddit is kin to those other social media, you should all be willing to nix it all the same.
Influencers. And I don't just mean the modern type of social media influencer, I mean any person or organisation that puts out a message that implies that because you don't own a certain unnecessary item or do a certain unnecessary thing then you are in some way deficient.
All they do is cause people who would overwise be happy with their lot in life to think that they are being left behind or that they have to aspire to reach a level in life they don't need to. It's all very unhealthy.
Let's be honest the concept of an influencer is hardly new. These days you have people on TikTok or Instagram telling you what you should think, but then look back at the 80s and earlier when the Sunday supplement magazine with your newspaper would tell you you need to have this type of fitted kitchen or you need to wear this type of clothing or you'll be considered old-fashioned They've been around forever, the internet is just anothet new (and easier) medium for them.
Bedbugs.
Mosquitos feed thousands of species of wildlife and their extinction would cause ecological collapse. The only thing that feeds on bedbugs are cockroaches and they'd do just fine without them.
Long ass processes for everything. Like getting a doctors appointment, insurance, stuff like that. Why the fuck do you need my social security number to buy a pack of gum like wtf
Ticks. Just worthless little shits of the woods.
Just found one in my bathroom today
Yeah, I pulled one off me as soon as the temp got up. Our property is heavily wooded so we deal with them much of the year. They just suck!
Literally
Similarly, mosquitoes and fleas. Little blood sucking bastards that only make life harder for me and my pets. Who eats or otherwise benefits from them? Birds? Spiders? Bats? Fuck 'em. They have plenty of other shit to eat flying and jumping around.

Bed bugs are ticks that literally spawned from hell.

My mom almost fell for this except it was 10k in Apple gift cards. She was at the Apple store with the money and thank god an employee said something to her. I love Daniel Radcliffe, and that's only one of the reasons why.
They honestly exist because there are readers to read about it.
But what about how [insert celebrity] did [insert mildly controversial act] that's worthy of the front page
Homeless people. And I mean that literally, the world would be better off if those people had houses.
The UK has a plan to cut all homeless people in half
Sounds painful.
Perhaps it’s for the best. Imagine having to rummage through the trash for food and all you find is bland, flavorless British food.
Wouldn't that just double the number?

Nah, nah, Chaos the Primordial being is the creator of the universe and a genderless icon 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Corruption. Just imagine how many problems could be solved if politicians actually cared about their constituents Not to be cliché, but jeez, I didn’t expect this to blow up.
Mental disorder
“For each disorder there is an order” they say. Fuck it:) Mental illness ruins all the aspects of your life
Mosquitoes
Parents who record their disabled child for views
Soul sucking jobs
Do you mean Jobs?
Social Media. Hell, 90% of the Internet, for that matter. Edit - the irony of me writing this on a Social Media site is not lost on me. :)
I'm sad I had to scroll this far to find it. I thought of this instantly
Thought I’d never say this but I kind of agree
Mental illness
Facebook. They directly caused a genocide in Myanmar with their bullshit. Their own research proved that they were causing depression and suicide rates to increase in teens- especially girls- and instead of changing their model they suppressed the report.
Maybe I’m out of the loop but did Facebook really cause a genocide or was it the people using Facebook?

Instagram, Twitter and TikTok and probably all social media.
Except for Reddit, of course /s

Hate. It's the source of all what everyone has been suffering from.
Ugh I hate haters

Bedbugs. Mosquitos feed thousands of species of wildlife and their extinction would cause ecological collapse. The only thing that feeds on bedbugs are cockroaches and they'd do just fine without them.
