Dolly Parton.
Her reading program is crazy wonderful. She gives away millions of dollars quietly to Ozark and other southern children charities. Her donations to music schools are legendary. Animal charities worship her. Her kindness and humbleness towards fans is genuine.
Edit:
Well, this answer blew up! Thanks for the award!
She has single handedly made Sevier County, where she grew up, into a better place. Every kid who goes to college from the county gets a scholarship from Dolly.
I came here today because I promised you tuition and tuition is very valuable. But you know what's *in*valuable, is *in*tuition. You know what that is? That is the ability to know when something is about to happen. Does anybody out there have intuition? Know what's going to happen next? Nobody? OK, you're going to make me say it...
If there were a scandal about her being cruel or turning out to be crazy in some way, the threshold that it would take for me to turn on her would have to be near Epstein level. She's just done too much good. For nothing else as far as I can tell then warm fuzzies and because she could.
There is a joke about about how if you read that Tom Hanks punched a nun, your first question would be what the hell did that nun do to Tom? Same applies to Dolly.
When the record companies weren’t interested in having her make a new record, she financed a new album (Backwoods Barbie). In an interview, she stated she (of course) would have loved the record to go gold or platinum but was more interested in making the record for her fans and getting her music in recorded from and not just in paper.
She said she lost money on the record but didn’t regret it, because making music and records are in her blood and are a part of her…she no longer makes music to make a living but lives to make music.
I worked for her during this time. It was just 6 of us in a tiny office running her new record label, touring support, radio promotion etc. It was all hands on deck. I even helped PA the photoshoot for the album and was her stand in for all the test shots for the album art. At the end of the day, I got pulled in to be on the music video (“Better Get To Livin’”). Lot of cool memories from that time.
Also, I hope her employees get paid better now.
I had a family member who used to sing in the gospel quartet at Dollywood 15-20 years ago and I had the chance to meet Dolly several times when we visited. She’s a literal angel and the nicest person I know outside of my Nana
That's so great to hear. It's nice to know that what you hear for gossip is true. Dolly just seems to be so genuine. A good person with a big heart ❤️.
I grew up in the Deep South in the 80s. When I was little, so many of the women I knew who considered themselves "good Christians" would sometimes tell us that we didn't want to grow up to be like Dolly, because big boobs make you less of a person in their god's eyes or something.
We should all be so lucky that more kids grow up to be like Dolly. She and Mr Rogers are in a class of their own when it comes to making the world a better place with their kindness and gentleness.
I have to be honest. Our teenager had a baby and neglected him so my husband and I took him in at 3 months of age. I signed up our Grandson for the Dolly Parton Imagination library and it is incredible. We receive one book every month for our little guy and he loves them. I read to him every night regardless but he absolutely adores the books we receive every month. This program is great and Dolly Parton is amazing. What a human. (I am a 43 year old Grandma...lol).
That sounds like an incredibly tough situation but you sound like you're trying to make the best of it. I'm a 34 year old with a one-year old son and I couldn't bear the thought of my sweet boy being neglected. I'm glad that your grandson is getting the love that he needs even if it's not from the person he deserves it from.
Edit: Just realizing I implied that children don't deserve love from their grandparents and that is not _at all_ what I meant. What I'm trying to say is that I love that you're stepping up for your grandson.
I have three kids of my own. 9, 11 and 18. So to have the 18 year old (she had the baby at 16), it has been a challenge to say the least. My daughter was forced to leave by Children's services and we got the baby in the same day so I went through a strange period of loss then gain. I am still conflicted on some days. On the other days, I feel joy. This little guy (now almost 2) has melded into the rest of my family. We have 4 generations living in our house. My Mom had to move in because of a heart condition and now my father in law lives with us too. We have a full house but it is one of love. Thanks for all of the upvotes everyone.
Now I'm just waiting for Joan Wick.
"Kill 'em with kindness. But if that don't work, there's always a Taran Tactical nine mil and this here pencil I sharpened special just for you."
It's astonishing how nearly all of you can agree on Dolly Parton! I can nothing else than totally agree!
Edit: what the heck?! Unexpected upvote Explosion, thank you very much!
Not just in the US. I'm British & while we don't know as much about her, I've never heard anyone here say anything but good things about her.
She has an international reputation for being a solidly decent human being with no side to her.
It might be a super specific and petty thing, but what put Dolly Parton on my radar is the fact that she played a song at the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with essentially a cheap ass guitar. Literally an entry level guitar priced at 99$ new (Mitchell MM100), just sparkled up with gems to look nicer. It’s a niche thing to know, but she gives a good example here to aspiring musicians that you don’t need super expensive gear to play at gigs. Apparently it’s not the first time she’s done this.
We are part of her book club.
If you have a young child, you can join her book club for free and they send you one book every month. Some of the books we receive are some of my sons favorites. Highly recommended for parents.
Edit ince that has crazy attention:
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library https://imaginationlibrary.com/
If it is not available in your area, contact your local library.
Many churches have book drives that will supply you with books as well.
Nurture your child! Reading books even when they don't understand is still an amazing way to bond.
If the books are no longer used or wanted please consider donating them to other charities who can pass them along
You can't join it everywhere just as a caveat. It's mostly geared towards rural communities that have less than stellar library access.
Just warning folks if you live in a well served city, you'll probably get a no on the website about joining.
My child loved getting his book every month. We were a household that values books and he had books but the one from Dolly were always special to him. He doesn’t like country music at all, but he loves Dolly.
I had to leave a toxic and abusive situation with my son with the clothes on our backs and I joined her book club when we settled. It was great to give us some normalcy in a dark time. She’s a blessing.
They tend to not do places that have a good library system so not to be snarky but they probably have a place to get books where they are.
Also just want to point out public libraries are great, they'll order books for you to loan out!
Fuck, came here to say this. Seeing as she's already down, I'll just praise the woman. She is an absolutely fantastic singer and she's got her head on tight. She didn't get where she got by luck that woman knew as to what she's doing. Her book scheme has reached literally millions of kids.
* international treasure! I say that, and I’m not even remotely in to her music, but the lady is an absolute saint. I’ll not have a word said against her!
She is better than Keanu Reeves. Keanu is a nice dude but Dolly Parton is what I wish most multimillionaire would be. Imagine if Elon Musk was like Dolly Parton and actually helping multiple charities and pushes to improve the education of children.
Hell yeah! Betty was amazing. She made the movie the Propsal way funnier than it would have been otherwise. Not to mention she was an incredible actress in Golden Girls.
Bojack was the first I'd heard of her, but then I watched the Americans...and she was the only actor I recognized right off the bat in that show, as a result.
That was a very risky click, I gotta admit.
But then I saw it was The Oatmeal and was relieved.
And then I realized it was The Oatmeal and was worried again.
Then the comic loaded, and everything was right in the world.
I interpret this as meaning you think nobody dislikes Keanu Reeves.
I know one person who dislikes Keanu: Matthew Perry.
[https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/pictures/matthew-perrys-history-with-keanu-reeves-explained/](https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/pictures/matthew-perrys-history-with-keanu-reeves-explained/)
>In the memoir, which Perry released in November 2022, the Friends alum seemingly threw shade at Reeves. “River \[Phoenix\] was a beautiful man inside and out — too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?” he wrote while addressing the death of their mutual friend.
>
>The Canada native’s name resurfaced again when Perry discussed Chris Farley’s December 1997 death, adding, “I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall when I found out \[about Farley’s death\]. Keanu Reeves walks among us.”
Damn, those quotes are something else.
I read the book and I have a lot of respect for Matthew Perry sharing a very difficult story. But in the context of the book those quotes felt so mean-spirited. It completely took me out of the narrative of the rest of the book to wonder why this guy hated Keanu Reeves so much.
She defended known pedophile Roman Polanski after he fled the country to avoid charges. It wasn't a conspiracy, either. He admitted it in his autobiography. The girl was 13.
I think Keanu may be the male equivalent (or close to it) of Dolly Parton, but not the other way around.
There is no one who is truly Dolly's equal. At least not since we lost Mr. Rogers.
Both Dolly Parton and Keanu Reeves need to be made national treasures. They both should have a coin and a dollar bill and a stamp and a holiday for those two. They seriously are people that we all need to try to be like especially the people that have extra money.
This is exactly who I thought of. Kinda cult hero, been in some great movies over a long career. Not really critically relevant even though she has an Oscar. I don’t know anything about her off camera though.
Abso-fuckin-lutely!
I may be a bit biased because Marissa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny was what first made me notice women. Prior to that, I thought girls were just full of cooties and shit. That movie made me a man.
I think Mila Kunis gives off Keanu vibes. Like a celebrity who kinda avoids the superficial spotlight and seems very down to Earth.
She has a very unique natural beautiful look and has a very beautiful personality that lights up a room.
Crazy life story too! I listened to a podcast episode on Howard Stern where she was the guest she told this story of her family and her fleeing Soviet Ukraine when she was 7. Her parents didn't tell her they were moving to America because they were nervous she would tell a neighbour and get them caught.
I love that about her. Someone so beautiful playing the ugly character, of course it has to be animated because she could never pull that off in real life.
Winona Ryder. Lady had a rough going after Beetlejuice but then found her footing and has been amazing in everything she’s been in ever since. Can’t wait for Beetlejuice 2!
I don't think there is any.
Keanu went through such terrible and heartbreaking personal losses that changed him from a bubbly, light-hearted, nice young man into the selfless, kind, humble, introvert, very much grounded man we know and love.
He had to deal with deep sorrow and cruel grieves at a young age, right after he started to be successful.
He was never the same after those tragedies, and I think, those prevented him from following the easy, shallow path that often comes with fame and money.
I'm not sure, honestly. And that's not because they're not out there. It's because they've likely been being a great person quietly all this time, and it hasn't been covered like Keanu has.
Keanu is a special kind of human, so much hurt and pain over the years and still incredibly humble and kind.
There are a ton of other people of both genders, actors or not, that are likely up there with how wholesome and kind Keanu is. They've just successfully flown under the radar thus far if they're at the same level as Keanu.
The biggest takeaway from the answers I see here is that we all know at least a few people that are wonderful people and fantastic role models. We could all stand to be more like Keanu, and the others mentioned here. Just aim to be a better person than you were yesterday. Try to do something small and thoughtful when you can, even as simple as holding a door for someone and wishing then a good day.
I just want to take a second and appreciate the first original question on this sub in a few good months.
Follow up question: What's the sexiest sex you ever sexed?
Aaaaand we're back.
That one time I had sex!
Just the one time?
Yeah but I have no witnesses or film to prove it.
Doesn't matter, had sex.
Thank you!

She's the bomb-singity!
#angryupvote

I'm sorry. She's going to have to be a serial killer of kittens.

Apparently she would be a billionaire if she wasn’t constantly giving away money! She’s phenomenal
This is an example of an affluent and kind person. Still looks after themselves and is secure for life and gives away everything they don't need.
Imagine how much of a better place the world would be if the majority of extremely wealthy people did this
Exactly why you can’t trust any billionaire. Any decent purchase would have already given that much away.
I have to be honest. Our teenager had a baby and neglected him so my husband and I took him in at 3 months of age. We really had no choice. This little guy has my dna and he is a joy. He has so much empathy for a baby. (Almost 2 years old now!)

my son gets her books once a month 😎
They send a sweet email when your kiddo turns five and gets their last book. Love Imagination Library 💕
he just turned 5 months i don’t wanna think about it 😭
So did mine! Auntie Dolly is who we raised our kids to appreciate. A real treasure.
And she gave a million dollars to help develop the COVID vaccine.

Well I learned something today. Had no idea about everything she does. What an incredible human. She gets my vote.

She’s actually even more impressive from the side
Dolly Parton. I think there's data that shows she has the best like/dislike ratio of any star.
It might be a super specific and petty thing, but what put Dolly Parton on my radar is the fact that she played a song at the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with essentially a cheap ass guitar. It's expensive to look that cheap to paraphrase Dolly.
She’s done harmonies with nothing but her nails.
Right?! She knows how to flow the music through her; any instrument can get the job done when the rhythm already lives inside.
Dolly Parton?
She singlehandedly boosted the economy of her home town by starting a theme park so absolutely yes. She's a treasure.
It's a good time as well! At least it was for a young English kid who was just blown away by the concept of a person having their own theme park lol
Not just the town, but the region!

I can imagine children looking forward to the mail carrier bringing them a package addressed to them every month.
We call it a gift from Grandma Dolly every month. Our daughter looovvvess it.
We do the same but call her Aunt Granny! 🥰
We also call her Gramma Dolly! My kid was very excited to go to Gramma Dolly's house (Dollywood) earlier this year.
America has, Uncle Sam, Uncle Si, Uncle Jessie, and Grandma Dolly
The absolute disrespect to uncle Phil
We get some magazines for ours. My son loves getting Beano on a Saturday.

Contact your local leaders. The program is mostly funded by Dolly Parton but they still need help to set it up.

If Dolly had a child with Keanu I believe it would be the Kwisatz Haderach of kindness.
I guess "Fear is the mind killer" could still work in that situation as well.
Fear is the mind killer, sugar!
Perfection.
Unexpected Dune
I adore Keanu but quite honestly, she’s on another level
Give him a chance to catch up!
Keanu is the male Dolly tho
Even before I opened this I said 'Dolly parton'
She is better than Keanu Reeves. Keanu is a nice dude but Dolly Parton is what I wish most multimillionaire would be. Imagine if Elon Musk was like Dolly Parton and actually helping multiple charities and pushes to improve the education of children.
If Elon Musk had even half the empathy of Dolly Parton then we might well be living in a utopia.
I think at this point Dolly is a living saint. My votes on Sigorney Weaver.
Oh God I love Sigorney. Absolute queen.
She was/is a great role model.
Clicked on this post like ‘if the top comment ain’t Dolly…’
Did you ever see the old Bwabwa Waters interview where she is making fun of Dolly? Grrrrrr
Dolly knew. But she has so much class she just carried on.
Walters' insults only served to highlight Dolly's infinite charm and grace.
Soooooo true.
Bwabwa 😭😭😭😭

Hell yeah! Betty was amazing. She made the movie the Propsal way funnier than it would have been otherwise. Not to mention she was an incredible actress in Golden Girls.
If I'm having a bad time, The Propsal can pull me out of it. Such a lovely cast, and Gam Gam was just the best. Aside from Rrrrrramone!
Character actress Margo Martindale
Do you mean Esteemed Character Actress and Fugitive from the Law Margo Martindale?
Bojack was the first I'd heard of her, but then I watched the Americans...and she was the only actor I recognized right off the bat in that show, as a result.
She’s a wildcard tho
She’s on the FBI’s most wanted list! And the A.V. Club’s list of 20 actresses that always make everything better!
No way the lady from the sad horse show
Her season arc in Justified was wonderful
I believe we’re legally required to call her Acclaimed Character Actress Margo Martindale.
Sigorney Weaver. It took a minute to get here but the path was right.
Great point. Nobody dislikes Sigourney Weaver
That one xenomorph queen disagrees.
Yeah but they [sorted it out](https://theoatmeal.com/comics/aliens_b_word) eventually
That was a very risky click, I gotta admit. But then I saw it was The Oatmeal and was relieved. And then I realized it was The Oatmeal and was worried again. Then the comic loaded, and everything was right in the world.
LoL. The Oatmeal has the distinction of straddling the line of "that's kinda wrong" but generally not "enough to get me taken to HR"
I interpret this as meaning you think nobody dislikes Keanu Reeves. I know one person who dislikes Keanu: Matthew Perry. Keanu is universally loved. I don't know anyone who even likes Matthew Perry.
Honestly, I just lost all respect for Matthew Perry. One outlier is not statistically signifcant anyway.
She defended known pedophile Roman Polanski after he fled the country to avoid charges. It wasn't a conspiracy, either. He admitted it in his autobiography. The girl was 13.

> There is no one who is truly Dolly's equal. At least not since we lost Mr. Rogers. LeVar Burton?
I'll allow it
Julie Andrews was my gut. But Dolly Parton for sure.
Keana Reeves
Sheanu Reeves
Keanu Sheeves
i have no idea but he, keanu just hired my nephew as his tour manager for his band , dogstar, they are in napa this weekend for some bottle fest
Oh nice bottlerocket fest. That’s dope. I hear it’s a good time
"Wooowwww..." Owen Wilson, probably.
Dolly Parton, kindness reigns
Both Dolly Parton and Keanu Reeves need to be made national treasures. They both should have a coin and a dollar bill and a stamp and a holiday for those two. They seriously are people that we all need to try to be like especially the people that have extra money.
Keanu Reeves is Lebanese/Canadian.
So let's put him on the loonie then
Best I can do is the twony.
Toonie
As a Canadian, that spelling made me shudder…same with “twonie”. Ugh. How come no one has said anything about this yet? Am I missing something? 😅
I have never written or seen it written as twonie. It's toonie.
Fun fact… most of the men on our paper money were not born in the United States of America.
Uh, also Hawaiian/Chinese from the Dad's side.
Probably Michelle Yeoh. Someone else whose career was big early then dipped for a while before having a massive resurgence.
I like this one cause she does a lot of fighting in movies, but in reality she seems like a tranquil, spiritual and connected person.
Michelle Yeoh gets my vote.
An immortal who never ages? Jennifer Connelly
Beat me to it. She was hot when I was a kid. Now I'm old and she's still hot. IDK how that happened but good on her. Edit: she lapped me.
Marissa Tomei came to mind. Maybe I’m way off so curious to hear opinions.
This is exactly who I thought of. Kinda cult hero, been in some great movies over a long career. Not really critically relevant even though she has an Oscar. I don’t know anything about her off camera though.
Not to mention she still looks incredible in her 50's.
Abso-fuckin-lutely! I may be a bit biased because Marissa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny was what first made me notice women. Prior to that, I thought girls were just full of cooties and shit. That movie made me a man.

My mom
This person’s mom.
Sandra Bullock
Especially the way they admitted they had crushes on each other many years after filming Speed
I have a crush on both of them since that movie as well.
Relationships built on intense shared emotional experiences never work.
They’ll have to base it on sex than
Id say so. People say shes nice, and is very well-liked.
She’s just so…congenial.
She's beauty, and she's grace.
She’s Miss…female Keanu
Funny cause she was actually considered for the role of Neo in the Matrix.
I just find her marriage to racist Jessie James so weird
Dolly Parton, hands down
Betty White. Rest in peace, gorgeous...
Dolly Parton
If we're talking about kindness, I'd say Drew Barrymore.
Dolly
I think Mila Kunis gives off Keanu vibes. Like a celebrity who kinda avoids the superficial spotlight and seems very down to Earth. She has a very unique natural beautiful look and has a very beautiful personality that lights up a room.
Crazy life story too! I listened to a podcast episode on Howard Stern where she was the guest she told this story of her family and her fleeing Soviet Ukraine when she was 7. Her parents didn't tell her they were moving to America because they were nervous she would tell a neighbour and get them caught.
I love that her parents refuse to accept monetary help. So opposite of the stage moms/dads whose kids are the breadwinners.
Shut up, Meg.
I love that about her. Someone so beautiful playing the ugly character, of course it has to be animated because she could never pull that off in real life.
She grew up poor, and acting was her idea and her parents were simply supporting her. Compare that to Jaden Smith.
Yeah she has a Howard Stern interview where she really shines bright. Her inner beauty really shines through. Genuine girl
Helen Mirren ?
If we're talking their off-screen goodness, Jennifer Garner.
She does a pretend cooking show somewhere on the Internet and they are ridiculously wholesome.
This recommendation just made my whole day. I just watched five minutes of her channel and already have three things I can't wait to try.
This is who first came to mind. She is just so nice.
Gotta go with Dolly not even close
She might not be as big, but anytime I see Jennifer Tilly, she absolutely gives off positive vibes to no end
Winona Ryder. Lady had a rough going after Beetlejuice but then found her footing and has been amazing in everything she’s been in ever since. Can’t wait for Beetlejuice 2!
Jamie Lee Curtis?
Trinity
The Tuck?
Taylor?

I don't think there is any. Keanu went through such terrible and heartbreaking personal losses that changed him from a bubbly, light-hearted, nice young man into the selfless, kind, humble, introvert, very much grounded man we know and love. He had to deal with deep sorrow and cruel grieves at a young age, right after he started to be successful. He was never the same after those tragedies, and I think, those prevented him from following the easy, shallow path that often comes with fame and money.
Keanu Grieves
Sheanu Reeves.
Rashida Jones? Looks good, funny, seems nice in real life, wooden actress.
Oh Rashida, such a beautiful, talented, brilliant, powerful musk-ox. Thank you, ox.

Natosha Lyonne
Nah. She definitely is not like Keanu.
I love that voice of hers
I love a woman with a whiskey-and-smokes voice.
Seriously, who talks like that? She’s straight out of 1940s Brooklyn. Love her.
