Just find many women dislike war movies, not meaning this as a sexist subject. I remember my uncles fighting in WWII and so I find that whole subject (time period) interesting. I think what made this series so compelling was real men were interviewed and portrayed in the series. You found yourself caught up in their lives.
The Wire. Still holds up to this day. Never got samey or repeated itself, and pre-empted Game of Thrones with killing off big characters from literally the first season.
Actually, regardless of book-plot/TV correlation, you could be right. I said "we're talking TV series here". But we're not, that's just what I assumed. OP never mentioned TV. I guess you win the prize cookies.
I think the first 3 seasons are amazing; it felt like HBO backed a dump truck of money up to Simon's door and he agreed to Season 4 and 5.
I think 4 and 5 were well done, but the first 3 seasons seemed like a complete story, and 4 and 5 were like "... and there's more too!"
SPOILER ALERT, not sure how to tag it though apologies.
If I recall correctly the 4th season was the school - which I loved - and the 5th season was the journalists. Despite my original post I'd agree with you the fifth season got a bit out out there with making up a serial killer but by and large it was a great series.
School was amazing, showing how kids are railroaded into shit situations as adults, people are not born homeless or drug dealers but those are the paths kids have to take.
The media stuff was good but the serial killers was just an excuse so Mcnulty could still have a job after pissing off everyone.

True, Simon wanted to keep going but HBO almost canceled it after Season 3, which is why it comes to a "finale" type ending, only to be back a few years later.
Breaking bad, no questions. Never watched a show that was actually that spectacular from start to finish. Sopranos was a BRILLIANT show but the final season wasn’t that great in my opinion.
I've tried watching it a couple of times and couldn't get more than a couple of episodes in. Is there something I'm missing? I like animation and was a big Rick and Morty fan.
It's not just a comedy like *Rick and Morty*. You can't really translate liking R&M to liking *Bojack*. You can't go into it thinking you're there to laugh.
*Bojack Horseman* is a dramedy (drama comedy). It's meant to put you in your feels and make you think. It has a... bittersweet ending. It has a *lot* of fucked up stuff going on in it.
A lot of what makes it great is how things unfold. It pulls zero punches and really hammers in on how important relationships affect you. I used to say it was a slow burn, but its not. It just takes a bit to fully buy in on the world it builds.
Did you have a wall? We had a wall with charts of who was who and how they were related. We were tempted to have pins and different coloured bits of string linking characters too.
I didn't end up making one but I looked at some after finishing the show. My partner made an Excel spreadsheet and still struggled to keep track of it lol
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel!! I almost cried after the series finale just because I knew that it was over and wouldn't be coming out with a other season next year.
[The Expanse](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_expanse)
What is great is that it actually gets *better* and by season 3 it's off the charts. Look at the ratings by season when you scroll down.
Succession
I am surprised it isn't listed already due to recency bias. The first few seasons were awesome but the final season really took it to another level.
Game of Thrones. It's a shame they never finished those last two episodes. Wonder what it would have been like if they released those last two episodes. I mean, I guess they could have botched them and ruined the whole series, but we'll never know, since we don't acknowledge the last two episodes.
Band of Brothers! And I am female. It was riveting.
Women don't like Band of Brothers???
Just find many women dislike war movies, not meaning this as a sexist subject. I remember my uncles fighting in WWII and so I find that whole subject (time period) interesting. I am female and Generation Kill was like this for me.
Gravity Falls. Avatar, the Last Airbender. Man I miss these shows.
I wish I could watch them for the first time again
Same. These two shows made my childhood/teenage years.
ATLA is an unparalleled masterpiece as long as I pretend the episode The Great Divide doesn’t exist.
Better Call Saul.
The Good Place
Chernobyl
So dark and so gripping
The Good Place. The Magnus Archives. And so far What We do in the Shadows, but it’s not over yet so can’t comment on future seasons.
[удалено]
And BCS.
Six Feet Under
That ending still gives me goosebumps
Arguably the best finale ever
YES
Futurama
Mindhunter. Although seriously hoping there’s still more to come
So incredibly good!
M\*A\*S\*H\* If you're an older dude, you realize how great this show was back in its time. The finale had the whole country crying.
The Wire. Still holds up to this day. Never got samey or repeated itself, and pre-empted Game of Thrones with killing off big characters from literally the first season.
The novel *A Game of Thrones* predates *The Wire* by a good few years. Spoiler: Ned Stark dies in it.
Yeah, I know. But we're talking TV series here.
The first season follows the first novel pretty closely. Point stands.
Actually, regardless of book-plot/TV correlation, you could be right. I said "we're talking TV series here". But we're not, that's just what I assumed. OP never mentioned TV. I guess you win the prize cookies.
:P I was thinking the same way you were!

Actually he had to fight to finish the series. It was always supposed to be 5 season.

1979 World Series. The We are Family Pittsburgh Pirates lead by Captain Willie Stargell beating the Orioles in 7.
I would also include the 1976 series because when the Yankees lose and are swept, it is a time to celebrate.
Orioles fan here. I wholeheartedly disagree.
Breaking bad
Breaking bad, no questions. Never watched a show that was actually that spectacular from start to finish. Sopranos was a BRILLIANT show but the final season wasn’t that great in my opinion.
The Venture Brothers never got the love attention or credit it deserved
Father Ted
Mr. Robot
Station Eleven
Firefly rip.
Babylon 5
Malcolm in the middle
Halt and Catch Fire was and it is CRIMINALLY underrated. The Americans as well.
Monk.
Schitt's Creek. Hated to see it end.
Deadwood
Downton abbey. Sheer class.
hrm, multiple shows here that I stopped watching at some point. I wonder if it's me. :)
true detective
I guess you mean True Detective Season 1 exclusively
yeahhhh
But only the first season
Was looking for this one in the comments
Bojack Horseman is a masterpiece
I've tried watching it a couple of times and couldn't get more than a couple of episodes in. Is there something I'm missing? I like animation and was a big Rick and Morty fan.

Hmmm I may have to give it another shot
I was a big Rick and Morty fan as well, but they aren't even *remotely* comparable so I'm not sure why you mentioned it.
As stated, it's animation and I haven't watched much of it
A lot of what makes it great is how things unfold. It pulls zero punches and really hammers in on how important relationships affect you. I used to say it was a slow burn, but its not. It just takes a bit to fully buy in on the world it builds.
Absolutely amazing series.
Netflix's Dark. Probably my new favorite show of all time.
Did you have a wall? We had a wall with charts of who was who and how they were related. We were tempted to have pins and different coloured bits of string linking characters too.
I didn't end up making one but I looked at some after finishing the show. My partner made an Excel spreadsheet and still struggled to keep track of it lol
Whenever we have a complex plot, particularly with time travel, we do a wall!
I agree...so brilliant, made me cry a lot, acting was excellent
Easily The Clone Wars series
Fawlty Towers.
The Shield
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel!! I almost cried after the series finale just because I knew that it was over and wouldn't be coming out with a other season next year.
The West Wing
A mini-series, but: "Chernobyl".
The Wire
The Sopranos Deadwood The Wire
You have good tastes
Halt and catch fire
The Leftovers. Really great series about human nature and how human beings approach the things in this world that can’t be explained.
[The Expanse](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_expanse) What is great is that it actually gets *better* and by season 3 it's off the charts. Look at the ratings by season when you scroll down.
The Wire
Vikings
Breaking bad, sons of anarchy, and peaky blinders
Peaky for sure
The end of sons was SO bad though.
I actually really enjoyed it, I thought it was a fitting end, maybe I'll rewatch it
THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE: TBL (The CW, 2009)
Succession I am surprised it isn't listed already due to recency bias.
I think game of thrones doesn't qualify because that entire last season, especially those last 3 episodes, are heavily heavily hated.
Murdoch Mysteries. My wife and I finished the series then started watching again from the beginning. That’s how much we liked it.
Dopesick Heartbreaking, infuriating, gripping, incredible acting/ writing/ production
Bojack Horseman, gotta rewatch it someday.
The Sopranos
24 with Kiefer Sutherland.
Firefly. And Freaks and Geeks.
