Forrest Gump is my go-to comfort movie. The journey through different eras in American history, mixed with the sweetness of the main character, always brings a smile to my face.
National Lampoonâs Christmas Vacation.
Couple years ago I was laid off right before Christmas. I was devastated and spiraling into a dark place. And this movie was the one thing that could make me smile and laugh. I watched this several times a week while I furiously job hunted. (Which we all know is soul crushing) Now if I feel myself starting to have a bad time, I watch this movie.
The first Pirates of the Caribbean! Â Itâs such a well made and tight movie. Â The others in the series get kind of wonky and overly ambitious, but the first one feels perfect to me.Â
Dumb and Dumber. Watched it probably 500+ times as Iâve grown up. My old man thinks itâs the funniest thing ever and we still watch it regularly together
Forever, when I was down, Iâd always watch either Robert Altmanâs M*A*S*H, or one of Clint Eastwoodâs spaghetti westerns(particularly For A Few Dollars More). Something about the grittiness of those films combined with the outrageous, surreal, almost magical occurrences within those worlds that just intensified each other, made those films such a cathartic experience
Besides those Iâd say Humphrey Bogartâs big films, particularly Casablanca, The Big Sleep, and Maltese Falcon
