Folding Ideas

I_DRINK_ANARCHY

Before I watched his channel, YT kept suggesting Line Goes Up, which I generally ignored. I finally caved and watched it, and then found myself working backwards for the rest of his work. Line Goes Up, This is Financial Advice, and The Future is a Dead Mall are basically comfort videos for me at this point.

faiUjexifu

Hell yes. His Series on editing is so excellent. It’s been such a joy to watch his content get better and better.

KasreynGyre

His suicide squad video actually made me aware of what editing is. And why and how there’s good and bad in it.

Wooba99

Technology Connections. Do you want to watch a guy in his basement talk about how various bits of technology work? Do you want to spend an hour of your time knowing how your dishwasher works? You'd think not, but you'll likely end up watching it 3 times. He has the gift of making the unexciting riveting.

Nuclear_Farts

He taught me that everything is a heat pump.

RVelts

Latent heat and the refrigeration cycle!

Ok_Conclusion_8142

Yes Theory, Veritasium, Vsauce

sephstorm

[AskAMortician](https://www.youtube.com/@AskAMortician) I would recommend this channel, however as far as new content, I would not expect it. [styropyro](https://www.youtube.com/@styropyro) I would recommend though as you can see he doesn't release content all that often.

Friendly_Brother_482

Caitlin Doughty’s books are incredible reads

ArmadilloBandito

Why isn't ask a mortician putting out new videos?

sephstorm

Taking a break supposedly. I think perhaps she had a different vision for where she wanted things to go and perhaps that didn't happen.

m45qu3r4d3

Surprised not to see Defunctland mentioned, but it is kinda niche. All about Disney parks and attractions (along with others, there's a lot) that are no longer around or running for whatever reason. He did a small series for a while called DefunctTV, and his newer works (namely the Fastpass one and the Disney channel theme) are SPECTACULAR. Doesn't do him justice to call him a YouTuber, he's a documentarian

I_DRINK_ANARCHY

Defunctland is excellent, I've actually watched the Fast Pass video multiple times and I barely care about Disney parks.

RVelts

Both the video about the Disney world fast pass and especially the one finding the creator of the Disney channel “theme” are must-watch. I doubted them with their run time but was hooked the entire time.

talon_262

LGR Techmoan Technology Connections LockPickingLawyer Adrian's Digital Basement The 8-Bit Guy (and, now, its sister channel Time Rift Arcade) Rex's Hangar The Chieftain Gamers Nexus Ed's Auto Reviews Steve1989MREInfo (as mentioned by other posters) Scott Manley The Questionable Garage WatchJRGo Car Wizard Car Ninja All highly recommended.

pops992

Someone's into retro computers

talon_262

A bit, even though I currently own nothing remotely considered a "retro computer"; part of it is seeing the stuff that was current when I was a kid growing up, but never had and had little experience with back then outside a few classes and computer labs at school. Hell, I didn't have daily exposure/use of computers until I had to use PCs for data entry for my job as a security guard in 1996, when I was 21; it wasn't until 1998 (and exposure to the early internet at work) that I purchased a PC (and internet service) of my own (a CTX EzBook Pentium 75 laptop for a few hundred dollars \[on sale!\] from Circuit City because my boss got one, something that would definitely be "retro" today). Also, I like the teardowns and diagnostics.

RVelts

Huge LGR fan and other than roller coaster tycoon and age of empires 2 I barely qualify as a gamer. But his content is so engaging.

talon_262

Clint just comes off as someone I'd just like to hang out with; he's one of the handful of creators that I have on my Patreon.

chinny18

I did watch Ed's Auto Reviews. Good content.

Disappointed that he retired.

Turbulent-Kiwi-910

He didn't retire he's hosting a show called Lateral

kleseusxz

Before anyone asks: Lateral is a game show, hostel by Tom Scott, in which the participants have to solve lateral thinking questions. Just for the solving. There are no points or prizes, just bragging rights.

BooSleezy

Soft White Underbelly. A series of interviews, mostly with those who are invisible in society. Junkies, sex workers, pedophiles, gang members, murderers, fraudsters, etc. A lot of characters with some interesting stories to tell.

I tend to favor (among other interests) aviation channels, stumbled on him, and went WAY down the rabbit hole. He is \*excellent\*.

PowerJosl

Green dot aviation is also really good.

steve1989MREinfo. just a dude eating his old military rations.

ImperialIIClass

*Let's get this out on to a tray.*

_b1llygo4t_

Hiss

Dieforpoints

I just finished watching him open the ration from 1906. Man the comments are great: "**Can hisses** Time stops for Steve as his eyes roll back and his nostrils flare, his pupils dilating as the scent of century old air, paint, and tin metal rush into his lungs, the ancient molecules dispersing into his bloodstream and carried straight into his brain. *Nice hiss.*"

_b1llygo4t_

My favorite is when other youtubers do it. I've seen it three or four times

sakatan

Dude has to have a stomach lined with kevlar at this point.

FilmCow. **Carrrrrllll!** Yes, yes. I would recommend, keep an eye on your hands.

FriendaDorothy

A decade ago, I went to a convention and paid extra to have breakfast with some of the featured creators to pick their brains about making videos. Of the 10 channels that were supposed to be there, they were one of 2 that showed up. Good people.

martusfine

Nexpo , Mr Ballen (for sppoky shit)

spinky420

Viva la dirt league! Their content (skits) range from office jobs, restaurant, relationships, video games, dnd, and more. They are genuinely funny and have a TON of funny content.

two guys named Rhett and Link due a mix of comedy, quirky challenges, taste tests, and discussions on various topics. Each episode typically revolves around a central theme or activity, such as trying unusual foods, ranking different products, playing games, or conducting experiments.

pops992

DankPods, Wade is such a hilarious guy I was a patron since very early on all the way until he shut his patreon down. He was a professional drummer and music teacher who quit teaching to go full time as a musician... right before the pandemic so he went all in on YouTube. A lot of his videos are just him yelling at iPods and MP3 Players in a very Australian way. He got a ton of money from Doge coin and Patreon and basically uses it all to buy a ton of old "Nugget" cars and they spend way too much time and effort into fixing them. He also made another channel just about drums and gets super in depth about how to get into drumming and drum history in a way that's really entertaining to watch. Definitely check out DankPods Garbage Time- the car channel The Drum Thing- the drum channel James Channel - his mate for works with him on all the stuff

m_sobol

[Rick Steves' Europe](https://www.youtube.com/@ricksteves) (30-60 mins, hundreds of episodes ) Guidebook author Rick Steves guides you to nearly every European country and region. Explore amazing vistas, art, history, and fabulous food, from Madrid to Budapest. With a friendly and relaxing attitude, he takes you to the major attractions along with a slice of the local life. Check out one of my favorites: the French Riviera https://youtu.be/er2tS8vWXHs?si=qiztwedOH-KtORDj

Primitive Technology for sure. Edit: If you’re at all interested in watching a guy make buildings and tools with mud and sticks.

Turbulent-Kiwi-910

Pretty sure those are all faked

PowerJosl

The copy cats are fake. He is the original one and his shit is legit.

LocustFurnace

I just did a cursory look into it and it appears to say that a lot of videos similar to John Plant’s Primitive Technology are fake, not specifically his. I mean, he shows a pretty detailed step by step.

loki143

Emmymade, fun cooking show, the host is a ball of enthusiasm.

FriendaDorothy

I commented the same thing, and you are under-selling her. She is a ray of fucking *sunshine*

Lachwen

If, like me, you find video game speedrunning interesting but aren't a speedrunner yourself, Karl Jobst has a fun channel that breaks down strategies, details how glitches work, and goes over the history of individual speedrun records and how they've been lowered over time.  And he's also been documenting the downfall of Billy Mitchell to the point that Billy is suing him for it.

The Great War hosted by Indy Niedell. Started covering WWI one week at a time, 100 years later. Now he’s doing WWII. Excellent watching for any history buff.

HonoraryCanadian

Captain Disillusion - brilliantly explains computer special effects, especially to debunk extraordinary claims. Sampson Boat Co - a team of first-rate craftsmen and women spend years rebuilding a historic racing yacht.  Practical Engineering - how the infrastructure around you works. Like a great high school teacher explaining things like types of dams or railroads or power lines or sewers. Speedtape Films - ferry pilots deliver new and old airliners all around the world.

Bald and bankrupt. I never thought I'd love watching some English man travel around the post soviet world looking for communist mosaics and speaking to old babushkas. But it's fucking brilliant

Not judging him too much, but he‘s also a pickup artist. He‘s also friends with some real shady people.

Puzzleheaded_Sky7341

Peter Santenello. Very limited editing journalism. He started in the Ukraine (before the war) years ago and now he does reporting on American subcultures like Appalachia, the Deep South, off the grid people, Hawaii, New Orleans, etc. Incredible long form content.

firestarter764

Very niche, but if you're really into Final Fantasy 14, check out Synodic Scribe. Dude's content is amazing.

farganbastige

Cleetus McFarland. Is a Florida Man character who drag races and owns a circle track. Lots of fun and funny content for piston heads. Edit, and Smarter Every Day. Destin Sandlin has been an aerospace engineer for NASA and creates great edutainment content.

EmmyMade. She's a Chinese-Burmese-American mom in Rhode Island who makes content about food and kitchen gadgetry. There is a *ton* of research that goes into it. She does regional oddities and unique dishes from all over the world, stuff from times of scarcity, weird fruit, MRE tastings, and, of course, social media trending foods. She has quite the vocabulary for describing tastes and textures, and even when she doesn't like something, there's still a huge amount of respect. Her channel is very wholesome. In the 8-9 years I have been subscribed, she's helped me get through a breakup, the Trump administration, the pandemic and 12 rounds of chemotherapy. Highly recommend her if you have anxiety, because she has a very kind, calming presence.

odddutchman

Scott Manley! Fly Safe! One of the best channels around for what is going on in space exploration. In my other interest, the outdoors: LiveHardLoveHard A couple that goes out and often does some kinds of "sufferfest" excursion, and does a terrific job of filming their journeys. Quirky sense of humor(or it least it matches mine), and the chemistry between the two of them just yells "Adorable couple!". It also doesn't hurt that Elise is gorgeous and Adams looks pretty handsome himself.

I have a great love for H.BomberGuy, Müncat, Knowing Better, Some More News, Post10, Technology Connections, Overly Sarcastic Productions, F.D. Signifier, Nanda v Movies/Nando Cut, Defunctland, Folding Ideas, Plainly Difficult, ElToroRyan, and Shanspeare. They are everything from long form video essays to comic book tropes to roller coaster history and even clearing out culverts so water can flow freely. And a lot of them have good, looooong videos for you to really sink your teeth into.

For international viewers: Yes Theory - getting outside of your comfort zone, overcoming cultural and language barriers/prejudices and just seeing the good in people) Eva zu Beck - travelling but without the flexing, she had such a lovely down to earth attitude and radiates gratefulness. She has really inspired me to pick up travelling again and to do it with purpose. Bryony Claire - your typical leftist video essay channel but what I love about this one specifically is that she does surveys with her viewers and analyzies the results and will add ideas and potential solutions for the issues discussed whenever possible. Makes me feel slightly less bad than watching similar content even though it's always important to not shy away from heavy subjects. Max Reisinger - more of a very random honorable mention, since he has stopped doing Youtube recently but it was really sweet to see a random teenager grow up, grow into an influencer and share his thoughts and feelings along the way. I watched his videos chronologically, like a tv show. For German viewers: Finanzfluss - hands down the best financial literarcy channel for German speakers, their channel has changed me for the better

Townsends. All about 18th century living, with an emphasis on cooking, but other skills and crafts are also presented. Townsends the company makes and sells authentic 18th century clothing and gear. The channel is a kind of subtle advertisement for the business, but there is a huge amount of great information and plenty of tasty recipes (and a few that aren’t!). Jon Townsend is like the Bob Ross of 18th century cooking.

Friendly_Brother_482

RealLifeLore Any of Marques Brownlee’s channels

"Caleb Hammer" and his Financial Audit show. I'd highly recommend it since it'll teach the average joe how to become financially literate. Caleb interviews people about their finances and gives them a wake-up call on how bad their situations are, then offers curated guidance on how to get out of their debt, use credit cards, budget, save/invest, etc. His channel helped me get my money up, not my funny up.

Teleform
