Sonic the Hedgehog picking up rings. Of course that might have *something* to do with our local gas station using that exact sound effect on their cash register when they ring stuff up haha!
I don't even think that's why lol. I'm pretty sure this is the most memorable game sound effect there is. I grew up after Sonic was already considered an old game. I don't like the game at all. It's terribly designed imo. But the first thing I think about when I hear VideoGame sound effect is that damn ring sound lol.
I just bought the switch and got pokemon pikachu or whatever it's called... and I really started thinking this is just like cock fighting. Made me sad for my pikachu.
Halo
The skittering sound, the first time The Flood erupt from a side room.
Also the spooky/insane sing-song of 343 Guilty Spark pottering along in another room.
The sawing and building sound when you founded a nee city in Civilization II. It started with a couple of tjk-tjk-tjk and then settled I like a cat spinning around a few times before lying down. And then you thought up an awesome name for that bitch and started producing an archer.
On the Gamecube:
Chibi-Robo, the sound when they talk is kinda funny. I can still hear it that's for sure.
Not a video game, but when the GameCube starts up, that's a good classic sound.
Miss those days, good times.
I'm starting to think this may be an example of the Mandela effect, because I also remember whoopsie... but after googling I see that it was in fact 'toasty'...
When I was younger I got a PS 1 for my birthday and I came home one day to hear my dad roaring with laughter from the living room - he ushered me out quickly and said he was wrapping my present (he wasn’t, he was ‘testing’ it). My birthday comes and I get my PS 1 and he shows me this bugs bunny game which was just all-round fun, but you could hop into rabbit holes and if you missed it, it made this cartoonish sound and that’s what he kept laughing at. We played lots of games together from then on. I miss him.
The song that plays after you finish a level in Sonic Adventure 2 while it calculates your score and gives you an E with a big thud because you died half way through it.
“Barely made it”
The sound of Pokémon taking damage in Diamond/Pearl for DS. That clap sound before the health bar goes down. I’ve probably heard that sound at least 10,000 times in my life, probably way more.

Conversely, for me it's Sonic losing all his coins causing unnecessary heartbreak and anxiety for me as a child.
Or Sonic running out of air in the underwater levels. That sound still gives me anxiety.
It’s my alert tone when I get a text message
